  1. I can confirm that the USB problem is not related to the USB manager (I removed the plugin) and after a reboot I selected the USB from the VM:

    image.thumb.png.9cf050585b206da507492189ca749d10.png

And then afterwards I get the log running forever:

Apr 13 16:45:09 UNRAID kernel: usb 1-1: usbfs: process 19810 (qemu-system-x86) did not claim interface 1 before use

Anyone have any way to fix this? - Would really like to keep the 6.10.rc4 but I need Home assistant to run the smart house 🙂

  2. Hi Again

UPDATE: This seem to be a problem in the way Unraid detects the Conbee2 stick USB in 6.10 releases

This would be really cool if the "USB Manager" could fix this?

If the USB manager could resolve the Conbee serial ID and create the correct device path?

    OLD POST

    ***************************************

    I just upgraded from 6.9.2 -> 6.10.RC4

And I only using this plugin to passthrough USB to my HAssio VM but it seems it dosent work in 6.10.RC4?

But the error I have after reboot is this:

kernel: usb 1-1: usbfs: process 17779 (qemu-system-x86) did not claim interface 1 before use

Its filling up and have been running since my reboot

Again thanks for this great plugin! Thinking about rooling back it work 100% in 6.9.2

  3. Hi All

UPDATE: Known problem from 6.10.RC1 - still a problem in RC4

I took the plunge and upgraded to 6.10.rc4 and I am getting this in the logfile

(My hope was to get my UI up on my local monitor again if I upgraded, - This actually resolved the local UI is now working!)

But the error I have after reboot is this:

kernel: usb 1-1: usbfs: process 17779 (qemu-system-x86) did not claim interface 1 before use

Its filling up and have been running since my reboot

I found that my Hassio VM - running Home assistant was the cause of this since its using the USB

After stopping this VM it stopped complaining about the USB

I am only using the USB manager plugin to control them in the VM (So I think thats the cause of the bug)

  4. Hi All

I cant get the "local UI" up on my monitor anymore?

Searching the Unraid forum I found some talk about the "VM backup plugin" causing some problems so I have uninstalled it

But I still cant get the GUI/Browser up on my monitor at boot it works fine and I can see all the disk being found but in the end I get this

    image.thumb.png.f0a0f0e1ef268a74166f4dbfdbb9f06a.png

And then after some time just a cursor:

    image.png.2fdff753e12a32cf78c325bc88220044.png

Is there anything I can "reset" on the USB?

I have my conf. set to always boot to the GUI, and it used to work?

    image.thumb.png.8e567e755b97a4498592421d5edf62e2.png

Hope someone can help I just got a big new screen to get Unraid up and running on 🙂

  5. Thanks Vr2lo

I really want to keep using ECC RAM but I would like to get the 3200 for the EPYC looks like the power usage is better vs performance

    image.thumb.png.05d04b48ec9d656ad8e8c43b215f4107.png

    My list so far:

    • Power usage acceptable (OLD CPU TDP 80W - new EPYC one 155W-180W?)
    • CPU Benchmark single thread minum 2000
    • 10G bit LAN (2x10G)
    • 7 x PCI slots - 128 lanes
    • ECC !!!! - Min. 128G RAM 4-8 channel possibility to upgrade to MB: 256G Ram
    • CPU Xeon 12 Cores 5 gen or AMD EPYC 16-24 cores?
    • CPU air cooling 4U server rack
    • Bifurcation motherboard
    • Intel GVT-g (Only Intel?)
    • Thunderbolt support
    • USB-C
    • Remote Management (IPMI)

I  think this would be a viable solution for a new Unraid server next 5 year

    1. ASRock ROMED8-2T
    2. CPU: AMD EPYC 7313 Benchmark: 40575 Single thread: 2610 (I would like to keep the existing single thread performance = Intel’s Xeon E-2176G)
    3. Memory: 128 GB Registered ECC RDIMMs (4x32 GB) Kingston KSM32RD4/32MEI @ 3200Mhz (Per Memory QVL)
    4. CPU cooler Noctua NH-U9 TR4-SP3 (Should fit my existing Norco RPC-4224 4U)

I have read that Bios and the configuration of this board could be a challenge but that it works well with Unraid?

Anyone who is running Unraid with this MB and a EPYC CPU?

  6. Yes I have been looking at the same CPU! - Intel Xeon E-2388G @ 3.20GHz

I currently have the older Intel’s Xeon E-2176G (CPU benchmark 13643 - TDP80W) and I have been very happy with it

But I need more CPU power , More PCI lanes and much more RAM (Threadripper is nice if you can pay the electrical bills :-)

But I cant find any nice motherboard for this CPU?

And the PCI lanes is only 20

So I am now looking at the EPYC CPU's....

CPU benchmark 32480 - (155W) AMD EPYC 7302P but again where to find a nice motherboard and also what about compatibility EPYC is not tested with graphic cards in these motherboards...

    Maybe this MB: https://gigapro.dk/p/asrock-rack-romed8-2t

Have you found your new CPU?

Idle / Watt is also a concern for me. Hence I decided for a Ryzen 9 3900 (65W Systembuilder version) a year a gear. A nice CPU, with plenty of power and very efficient. Can be set to 35W / 45W / 65W and you get the performance you need, however - the limited PCIE lanes are a deal breaker if one wants to play with hardware passthrough.

I realized that recently and will replace the good board +  CPU with an EPYC system. I think the Ryzen Threadripper consume to much, or a 65W version would be nice but that does not exist. So I decided for a 7232P CPU (8C / 120W) and a Asrock Rack RomeD8-2T. Plenty of PCIE lanes and a CPU which has enough power to serve today and does not burn a hole into my wallet. Once the 7272 or 7282 will become cheaper on ebay I'll get one but for now I think I addressed my needs for more lanes, on a platform that allows to grow for the next 3 - 5 years.

Ryzen Threadripper is awesome, when electricity costs nothing and when you really need a "V8" block.

    Just my two cents :)

    How did your build go?

Anything you don't get when using the EPYC CPU & MB?

I am also looking into upgrading, and the power and the "no availability" buying a Threadripper pro version is making me look for alternative solutions

  8. WOAW!  Congratz! with your upgrade!

I am also looking to do a upgrade! ;-)

Your setup looks like it covers all of my requirements and then some!

I finally found a seller of the MB:

    https://smicro.eu/supermicro-mbd-m12swa-tf-b-1

I think hope my PSU can provide enough power? (Corsair AX860i)

How much power does this setup use in average? (The "low" power usage and the onboard GPU of the Xeon E-2100G series was why I got into Unraid some years ago LOL)

My existing server runs 24x7 so its only at night time it draws less power (My power consumption right now shows 763W - 26 drives)

Do you have ECC memory? - It have saved my "bacon" a couple of times 🙂

  9. Just happened again - Emby is running fine? - Should I just keep re-booting the server after getting this error?

Would upgrading to the latest release candidate fix the problem?

I have defined memory limits on my dockers and VM's the utilization is high but okay, I guess its the spikes that causes this?

    I am between 65% - 85% high

    image.png.4e117fcdbb7467f9600415878b335bd4.png

I have attached my Diag again, but I thinking that there isn't any smoking gun causing this?

    Memory-2-diagnostics-20220403-1544.zip

  10. So I cancelled my order for the 128G RAM ECC and are now looking to upgrade CPU/RAM/MB

Guess we are waiting for the battle between: AMD Ryzen 7000 vs Intel's Xeon chips based on Alder Lake with up to 16 cores and a range of TDPs (35W, 65W, and 125W at the top end) ? or are we waiting for something else? 🙂

  11. Hi Everyone

I am looking into the new loader "Redpill" that seems to work with the DSM 7?

Have anyone had any success using this on Unraid?

This build should be "easy" to get working 7.0.1-42218

    https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/53817-redpill-tinycore-loader/?tab=comments#comment-257525

Would be cool if we could create a working guide to get this working

I would love to have the new Photo application running in a small VM on Unraid

Are you transcoding to RAM in Emby?  The above command limits how much memory the Emby Docker container can use but not how much RAM transcoding can use.

I am not familiar with how Emby transcoding works but I know Plex transcoding to RAM could use up all RAM if there was a long transcoding session or multiple simultaneous transcoding sessions.  My server with 32GB RAM crashed a couple of times because Plex used all the RAM.

I limited the amount of RAM that could be used for transcoding and have never had a problem again.

Yes that is a valid point but I created a script for all transcoding in RAM one for Emby and one for Plex and this have never failed me!

    #!/bin/bash
    mkdir /tmp/EmbyRamScratch
    chmod -R 777 /tmp/EmbyRamScratch
    mount -t tmpfs -o size=8g tmpfs /tmp/EmbyRamScratch

How much memory usage % when all fresh start ? Does it abnormal grow until FCP pull a OOM error message ?

Not bad to stop Emby and check all promblem persist or not.

No its all normal running now! ???

IE: Something went very very wrong with Emby.  Reboot is all you can do.  Maybe try limiting the amount of memory it's allowed to use

    I just checked the Emby settings and I already have: --runtime=nvidia --log-opt max-size=50m --log-opt max-file=1 --memory=2G --restart unless-stopped

  15. 2 minutes ago, Squid said:

Interesting.  Emby was going insane and kept on killing off stuff in order to keep itself from running out of memory, and at one point it wound up killing itself off so that it could keep running!??!

IE: Something went very very wrong with Emby.  Reboot is all you can do.  Maybe try limiting the amount of memory it's allowed to use

So Emby might be the cause of all my memory problems?

You can, but non-XMP usually in 2133, you need manual set to 2666.

If upgrade both RAM and CPU, I would wait a new gen DDR5 platform.

Thanks I finally found the right RAM as the supported ones but in 32G modules

    image.png.c6f8cd30d678b407322c3400a748e9d5.png

Seems that the Crusial RAM for servers anyway with ECC is now named Micron

So I can do the upgrade with what should be supported RAM

This new gen DDR5 would that be Intel Xeon? I havent seen anything on this, so it could be a very long time before we get this?

I have some very BAD memory problems:

  17. OK it just got very scary my docker failed to start and I had to do a manual start in the terminal (No logs where visible)

I then got the error shared drive not available - and I noticed that ALL MY SHARED DRIVES WAS GONE!

Found the above post and it said that this could be caused by memory problems

I then did a reboot and all my shares was back

New diagnostic posted here, before doing the reboot

    NO-SHARES-diagnostics-20220329-1847.zip

  18. So looking at options to upgrade my RAM and "future proof" them I was thinking if it was possible to buy these 3200 and use them as  DDR4 2666MHz?

Looking at the MB I can see that a BIOS upgrade would support 128G Ram!

    C246-WU4 (rev. 1.0):

    https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/C246-WU4-rev-10#kf

(The official supported RAM list has not been updated for a long time)

But I am not sure that 2 x 64G would work? or would it only support 4 x 32G?

I found these RAM with ECC

    image.thumb.png.af4722182520744da54e878f5945da82.png

My thinking would be that in the future with another motherboard I could "just" upgrade with additional 2 x 64G and get the full 256G Ram?

    Any thoughts?

Also would the best value for money cpu upgrade if I want 8 cores?

Sofar many people talk about the E-2288G? or the E-2278G?

  19. Hi All

I really need some help in what the best cause of action would be when upgrading my Unraid server?

    1. Upgrade existing Unraid server with a new CPU and or just RAM (+ECC)
      1. RAM upgrade 4 x CT32G4RFD4266 (128G) - This would be the best kit right?
      2. CPU upgrade (Socket:FCLGA1151) Xeon-E-2278G or Xeon-E-2288G (8 Cores)
    2. "New Server" - MB, CPU, RAM, COOLER
      1. Wait? everyone talks about DDR5 support and new CPU´s coming?
      2. The new Xeon E- CPU's would require new MB and socket LINK
      3. Haven't found any BIG SIZE MB for above new CPU's - anyone have a recommended MB? (20x Lanes sounds nice!)

    EXISTING HW/SERVER:
    CPU: Intel’s Xeon E-2176G socket:FCLGA1151
Cooler: CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-U9S
    RAM: Crucial - DDR4 - 4x16 GB ECC DIMM 288-PIN -2666 MHz PC4-21300 -CL19 (CT16G4WFD8266)
    MB: Gigabyte C246-WU4 (10 sata)
    Controller: LSI Logic SAS 9305-24i Host Bus Adapter - x8, PCIe 3.0, 8000 MB/s
    Case: Norco RPC-4224 4U (24 bays + 2 internal drives)
NIC: Intel Pro 1000 VT Quad Port NIC (EXPI9404VTG1P20)
NIC: Intel i350-T4 4x 1GbE Quad Port Network LAN Ethernet PCIe x4 OEM Controller card (I350T4V2BLK)
    GPU: Quadro P2000
NVme: Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB

    Some background:

I Build my first Unraid server around 4 years ago org post here: LINK

I was inspired by the build done by @Tybio end the new Intel’s Xeon E-2176G CPU's -  that at the time was very hard to get

But now I am getting out of memory warnings! and I could need more cores for VM's running Windows for school work and my 40 dockers

a Minecraft server + Home assistant VM and of course PLEX and so much more!

Even my Cache drive could need an upgrade but so far moving non critical things have provided enough space to just run the Mover once a day!

I assume that more people are in the same situation like me 🙂 and I would really like to hear what you are doing?

Electricity cost is getting higher so having everything running on the same server is nice and I have accepted the risk

also so far its been rock solid no major problems in 4 years!

Having previously owned a Synology I got 2 replacements from them over a period of 2 years!

As always your input and opinions is much appriciated

    Thanks!
