What is your go-to HDD manufacturer?
My servers have never seen spinning rust that wasn't WD/HGST. I've had many other brand drives (fail) in my own and others' desktop and laptop machines, but they were all replaced with WD spinners or one of a few brands of SSD (which no longer includes WD/Sandisk for me). The only WD-branded drives that have died in devices I've been responsible for were laptop spinners with glass platters, and a 6TB SMR red, and one Blue SSD. My experience has been solid enough that 4/5 spinners in my homeserver are used datacenter disks. It's hard to beat the value prop on used drives.

[Support] binhex - Plex Pass
Twice in the last week I've come to find that my binhex plex has shut itself down. I believe it may be happening at the end time of Scheduled Tasks. Is there anywhere I could see why it's doing so?

[Support] binhex - qBittorrentVPN
With update over the last day, I now have two instances of binhexqbit that, when you click "Save" in Settings, nothing happens. Can view everything, but cannot change Speed settings, Seeding Limits... pretty much stuck with current settings on both. Can toggle between Global and Alternative Rate Limits on the webUI, and it otherwise seems to be operating well, just can't change settings. Both downgraded to 5.0.4-3-01 ,which seems to be working fine. I'll just leave them here for a little while before checking for updates again...

[Plugin] CA User Scripts
I seem to be unable to copy a folder into the user.scripts/scripts folder on my flash. Is this intentional? Let's say I've setup a user script on unraid and want to copy the script's folder to use the same on another; how am I expected to carry this out? I can't see how to get files to cross the flash/array barrier. It feels like I have to use the UI to make the script, then just edit (copy/paste) into the files that user.scripts plugin made for me, but I feel like I should be able to drop a folder in and make use of it. Is this not the case? Am I crazy, missing something? Edit: From the future... I wound up just creating the script again on the second unRAID server. I feel like there was another time I was attempting to copy something else between the flash and a share and I couldn't get it, had to copy to another share first, perhaps. I don't remember. I forget what or why by now, though. I'll circle back if I run into it again...

[Support] binhex - Plex Pass
I'd had some troubles with Plex after making sweeping library changes. Only one library's content still played, and I knew it was time for a total reset. So, this morning I burned down my Plex Inc PMS and replaced with binhex-plexpass. First just a tester to make sure there wasn't something wrong with docker/unraid/my files... I figured my plexdb was trashed, so I got rid of the old configs using appdata cleanup before installing. I could've just brought up the official pms again, but since most of my other apps are binhex I figured "why not?" I had a time getting qsv working initially, but restarting unraid after adding the device in the container's settings seems to have gotten that sorted. I recall having to do so when I was using an nvidia gpu, but didn't think of it this time around... And then there was "transcode directory"... I initially didn't mess with it at all because my main concern was just getting a working install again. When I did, I had trouble getting this set up and it was causing OTA tv to fail. Probably would've stopped non-ota streams, but didn't check that. Anyways, with binhex's docs I got it worked out. The answer is here> https://github.com/binhex/documentation/blob/master/docker/faq/plex.md And the moral of the story is be careful using containers or templates from various sources, because their differences will catch you out. Oh, and read the dang docs!

Seemingly random crashes...
My unraid is being troublesome. Basically, it hasn't run more than a few weeks without problems since installing unraid earlier this year. As well as the random reboots, it has a handful of times just become unresponsive (web UI and apps, shares), while also pounding my LAN to the point that nothing could connect to anything at all (disconnect LAN cable from unraid, network operates normally). It's been a very persnickety box, but life has given me plenty more to deal with so I kinda let it ride for a while... What have I tried; 1) SMART short and extended tests. Everything passes every time, and the only errors listed are CRC (cabling) from a few thousand hours of operation ago. 2) I thought maybe the cache was being unruly, so installed a separate, NVMe cache pool for scratch space/arrs usage. No improvement. 3) To shed load, I removed the arrs and left only Plex and SyncThing autostart, and manually start UrBackup container when I want to backup the wife's laptop. Since I wasn't using arrs anymore I removed the VPN connection, deleted the network config and rebooted. Also rolled back addition of the nvme pool. Unexpected reboots still happening, but only time will tell on the network flood/unresponsive front... 4) Memtest. Ran through six or seven times over a day and a half or so. No errors. EDIT: 5) I turned off Credits Detection in Plex on advice I saw somewhere. Seems to be much more stable now, with perhaps one unexpected reboot since the spate of them from initial build to July. Seems "fixed" enough for government work... siouxsie-diagnostics-20240712-1050.zip EDIT TOO:

[Support] Djoss - FileBot
Sorry, I didn't look. It was a very busy time so I just manually fixed the folders and charlie mike. /mnt/media is where everything lived, and after filebot crahsed/hung most had been moved to /mnt/media/Media/... Unfortunately, no, I didn't capture any useful data before moving forward with manually fixing the folders. My first test of using filebot was deleting empty folders in the share, and that ran fine. After that first run, I figured it was configured correctly, so I decided to let it rename the media, and that's the run where it became unresponsive and most of my media was then missing from Plex. It's totally possible that there was an extraneous /Media in the host path, IDK because I removed filebot afterward. If I think I need to do any bulk file management again I may reinstall and try filebot again, but my media folders are well-organised now so I don't know that I'll need it again.

SMART problems with WD SA510 1TB SATA SSD
When I switched to unraid I bought a couple WD SATA SSDs to use as cache. I actually received two different models, but put them in anyways because 1) I am impatient and b) I figured it should still work fine. So nice that big-box and online retailers assume nobody knows or cares that there are product differences. All they see is a blue box, but I digress... So, it hasn't been perfect, but it also hasn't blown up yet... The problem I'm running into with the SA510 is that it always shows that there is no self test history, even though I can click to start a short or extended SMART test, and sit there watching it show the test's progress. What I discovered yesterday is that I can make it show SMART test history just by starting either test, wait a few minutes, and then click to see smart test history. It'll show up, and all of them have passed. Some time after the currently-running SMART test is done, it will go back to pretending there's no self test history. Also, if I click on SMART Error Log, rather than show that there is no error history, it doesn't show anything at all for the SA510. Again, if I start a short or extended self test, wait a minute, and then click to see smart log, it actually displays "SMART Error Log Version: 1 No Errors Logged". This is actually not the same thing the WDBNCE drive shows (it only says No Errors Logged). Also, on Identity tab, "SMART overall-health" is displayed only after prodding the SA510 by starting a self test or moving back and forth to same tab on other disks. Consistently inconsistent... The 'bnce' I have used several of in laptop and desktop refreshes over the last several years, and they've all run fine. This is the first of the SA510 I have used, and not thrilled that it must be "tricked" into showing SMART info. So, is this typical for the SA510; are others seeing the same behavior? Is this something that I should be concerned about? --NO (see EDIT) WDC_WDBNCE0010PNC_22077A800253-20240625-1302.txt WD_Blue_SA510_2.5_1TB_231909803034-20240625-1302.txt EDIT: Didn't realize it when I posted this originally, but lately I discovered that the second disk in the cache pool was "spinning down" on me. SMART showed far less power-on hours, and as I'm poking around BAM, there it is. Since that change, the POH of the two disks are increasing in lock-step with one another. Now when clicking to see SMART test results it responds appropriately. So, it was asleep all along, and that was the root of the problem I was experiencing...

[Support] Djoss - FileBot
Filebot crashed out on me today while organizing plex media folders. For a bit I thought all was lost, as most of my plex media folders were gone. All of HER shows were gone, and most of mine were, as well. All movies were gone, as well. While looking I noticed there was a new "Media" folder under the existing media share. Everything missing was in there, so I moved it all back out to their respective folders under the original "Media" share. I had shutdown all dockers except Plex and filebot before opening filebot. Maybe next time filebot should be only thing running when I use it? Now I'm not sure if I can trust filebot not to crash out and bork my media again...
It's just J.
