Chia farming, plotting; array and unassigned devices

Featured Replies

lol, yeah chiagreen you get 500 for each block. Think I am up to 3000 or 4000 now.

LTSC is what windows should be, no cortona, no edge, no bloat. I found the link to the ISO on reddit.

  • 1) I use my array as if I lose my plots I'd cry its taken so long to make them. But you can use anything really... I had spare drives in my array, so I just set them to spin forever.

Just a little FYI from some testing I am doing.   You can get some good plotting speeds with normal hard drives without the need to wear out SSD's.   With a regular 7200rpm 4tb sin

just ran some extension cords, and power split my garage setup.

2 DL380G6 boxes on one line.

1 DL380G6 and the old farm box on the other line.

they're on opposite phases as well.

if you're going to run silicoin on the same install as chia and spare, you'll need to make changes to the config.yaml, otherwise it'll walk all over things.

wow, I see that. Explains why I could not get it to sync up.

Hopefully they will fix that, not worth restarting the server right now so I guess I will give them a few days to sort that out before resorting to manually editing it.

oh the green ones on spare, are the ones I changed myself, as the OEM values matched chia.

I use hpool so guess that is why I have not had issues with spare.

I dug into the config for silicoin... stay away. it's all kinds of wonky stupid in there.

lol, yeah not rushing into it at this point.

Stupid like scam or stupid like lazy?

stupid as in, they didn't change things that needed changing, if you're going to run it in parallel with other farmers.

started looking at the windows sandbox function, to see if that can't be used to run each farmer in its own sandbox, without having to dicker with the config files. probably not though.

I have used sandboxie for years, works great although changing ports is not something I remember seeing an option for.

I keep having spare lose its daemon, and it stops passing plots.

also just noticed, spare and chain have the same UI port as chia.  probably not helping matters, so I changed it

spare 8322

chain 8422

still fighting with daemons that keep crashing.

this time it was flax and goji.

starting to wonder, maybe it's the "boot" drive in the machine.

perhaps 12 total databases, getting pounded by all those processes, is a bit too much for an old 250GB SATA2 2.5" 5400rpm rust drive.

might have to break out the spare 500GB SSD I have here, and plug that in, and move the install to that.

Possible I suppose, I am running off an old 128gb ssd.

have been seeing 100% usage on the task manager, but data throughput is < 10MB/s up or down.

think the biggest problem I see with all this, is the conversion of any of these into something useful.

at the end of the day, all these coins need to be turned into the standard bearer of currency across the globe... the all mighty U.S. Dollar.

love it or hate it, but I don't see many places around here taking any kind of coin for payment.  *some* places online will take them, like the bullion stores I shop, but that's it.

here's another brain nugget for y'all...

*IF* you use CLI to start the services, and you KILL the command window you started them in, you'll KILL the coin processes. Sometimes, you can't even KILL the command window, so you task manager DEAD the thing, and all of the sudden everything you've touched in that window, stops working.

poor programming.

what I stare at while working on all this plotting thing. :D

Something is up with the setup, if you HDD usage is pegged I think a lot of your issues lie there.

I have none of these issues. Start them up by clicking the icons and it does take a bit for them to scan the plots / sync up and start farming but after that it has run for a week+ without a single hiccup.

All settings are stock as well, have not had to do anything but enter my minomic and the paths to the plots.

yea I think i'm ordering some SSDs tonight after I get back from fireworks.

I collect old SSD's for times like this lol. got several 128gb drives I use in place of USB drives and for random boot drives etc.

I used mine up a while ago. :D

knock on wood, but it's been almost  24 hours since the last farmer "crash" of any flavor.
