[Expired, now $95 w/ Coupon] Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 - SuperBiiz

Recommended Posts

I just grabbed one of these a few minutes ago.  Lowest I've ever seen it by a few dollars.  It's a Mother's Day promotion, so it's probably good for another week or so, assuming they don't sell out.

Do we need cables like these (forward breakout) to connect to a standard SATA ports?

Is there a better source for them?  $20 is a little steep when you need two and the card itself is only $90.

Anyone know if the full height and/or low profile mounting brackets are included with this?  The picture doesn't show any mounting brackets, but since it is the retail version, I would think brackets would be included.  FWIW, Newegg's picture of the whitebox version includes both mounting brackets...

That's probably what I'll end up ordering. It looks like you can get reverse breakout cables dirt cheap, but the forward breakout ones are a good bit more expensive. The cheapest I can even fine is about $12 shipped from Hong Kong on eBay.

It's probably worth the few dollars to just get the name brand ones and not worry about it.

Amazon has them for $18.60 per cable.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I just ordered what looks to be the almost the exact same cable (.5M as apposed to .6M) from SuperBiiz here for $14.99

Also, you can use the same coupon code for 10% off but I couldn't since I just used it when ordering the controller card separately.

This is the correct card for me to go from the controller card, to 4 bare drives correct?

edit: for cable length.

That is the forward breakout cable, which is what you need to hook up the SASLP cards either directly to hard drives or to drive cages.  It is the right cable in most circumstances, but it is not the right cable if you are using a Norco case with backplanes.  Nice that Superbiiz carries them now!  They didn't always.

Cool deal, got the right one.  Thanks.  And thanks to the OP for the heads up on the SASLP deal.

Thanks for the report they're back in stock at Superbiiz. I was going to order them last night with the card, but they only had one in stock with no delivery estimate for the second. Looks like they got additional stock this morning. I ordered a pair.

Also, just to clarify Rajahal's comment, this *is* also the correct cable for *some* Norco cases with backplanes. The backplanes on my 4020 are SATA, which makes this the correct cable.

Thanks!

Just bought an extra one. Expand?? No idea yet. But they're twice this price here in Australia.

Will this card support current/future 3+ TB drives?  There is a thread on the AVS forums that says "no"; has anyone confirmed?

Wow, huge question.

No support for 3+ TB drives would definitely be a bummer and a reason to wait for the next model that will.

I wonder what the chances are for unraid support for a highpoint rocketraid 2680.....
