Plex Media Server

Thanks liuzhen!

I think that'll work for me. I didn't realize that there is a /usr/local/plexmediaserver directory. I'll make my changes there and see how it goes.

Two notes.

First the /usr/local... path and it's content are residing in the ram disk created by unRAID. Any changes made there will not survive over system restart. So you can try things out by modifying files in there but to make the changes permanent you will need a different approach. I'm not familiar with setting up dlna profiles but if a simple file copy is required you could store the file anywhere on your flash drive and then put a file copy command in your go file. But I would assume there is a proper way to do this (I will take a brief look since I might need dlna for some of my devices).

Secondly you should not use hidden folders with Plex (folder names starting with a period "."). You should instead use a cache only share.  Plex especially have been reported to act weirdly in some cases if hidden folder was used. In previous unRAID versions this was the only way to avoid mover from processing the folder but a better way exists now and you should use it. See few posts back in this thread for instructions how to setup the cache only share.

Just to summarize in one post

So in my plex install I defined the library directory as:

/mnt/user/plex/Library

Therefore the user DLNA client profile needs to be at:

usr/mnt/user/plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/dlnaclientprofiles.xml

Quick Plex question. I'm very used to XBMC and the way it scrapes data.

For Plex, if I have all of the files (nfo, posters) saved locally, will Plex scrape it locally or pull from the internet?

If from the internet, how can I force it to pull locally?

Thanks!

Instead of messing around with mysql I'm trying Plex for syncing between xbmc's

Edit: Also useful tips for setting everything up? I'm going to be using PleXBMC

There is an existing Plex community supported meta data agent for XBMC data:

On Win8 you have a choice of using any of the following clients: Plex Media Center, Plex Home Theater, Plex Web Player and Plex For Windows 8. Out of these I would recommend using Plex Home Theater if you are a Plex Pass member. Though it's still in beta, it provides the best and latest av-experience. Personally I use it together with reFocus Back to Blue theme. My second recommendation is Plex Media Center. Both of these provide client side direct stream options so that no transcoding takes place. You don't need to change any settings on the server side.

I wouldn't recommend using either Plex for Win8 or Plex Web player. Plex for Win8 is still quite limited and early in beta and Plex Web player just doesn't produce the same kind of av-quality as the standalone clients. If you insist using one these, then you should take a look on the Plex forums. There are own sections for each of the official clients.

For the Popcorn Hour I would also recommend taking a look on the Plex forums' other clients section.

Great!  thank you!  I can't wait to install and try PHT.  I didn't know about that one.

Thanks for the link for pch too.  :)

I have everything installed, but I was wondering if I can use any skin with the plexbmc plugin? Or does it have to be a Plex Skin? I'm currently using Aeon MQ4 which I don't think is working right. Since I don't get any movie/tv info (covers, metadata).

I cannot find any download for Plex Home Theater.  I guess it used to be called Plex desktop and they renamed it.  However, only Plex Media Center is on the Plex home page for downloading.

got link please?

Plex Home Theater (PHT) is at the moment only available to Plex Pass members due to being in beta. It is the future replacement for Plex Media Center (PMC). There is no development on the PMC but it is still very much functional and the official production PC client. If you don't want to become a Plex Pass member then you will not miss too much by using PMC. And yes, the way they name these things can get a bit confusing...

Ok, after switching to PMC resolved the issues with my HTPC setup and also installing the new Plex client for my PCH A-300 also works great.  It would seem that all of my plex clients are now happy.  I don't see it transcoding anymore either, so switching the clients did something.

The only issue is with shared lib via my Plex account.  I can login and of course it sees my local lib.  However it does not show a "shared" lib that I normally would see after logging in on a client.  This issue seems to exist for both the PMC for Win 8 and the pch client.  Perhaps I'm missing something, so if anyone can tell me how to see the shared lib from these clients, I would be good to go.

I assume you are logged into myPlex?  You won't see shared libraries (shared through myPlex) unless you are logged into myPlex.

Yes, I logged in, but do not see the shared stuff.  There is only one login option in the menu that scrolls up and down on the left side, unless I'm missing something.  After I sign in, I should see more listing in that menu on the left.  But I only see my same local lib.  Weird, as the Win 8 app store version (which sucks right now) I would just go to the far right and that is where I would find the share lib.

Do you see those shared sections when you use the web client? When you say shared, do you mean shared externally through internet from a friend or do you have multiple Plex servers in your local network?

I mean shared via MyPlex, so external through another friend.  We are simple sharing libs.  Yes, if I go to the web client, and I'm logged into my MyPlex, I see the shared lib from my friend at the bottom of the page.  I just can't find or see the shared lib with the PMC or the popcorn hour client, weird.

I think the question is where should I see the shared libs on those clients?  For the Win 8 app store client, they appeared on the far right.  On the web they are at the bottom of the page.  So where should they appear with the PMC and pch clients?

I have a question about deleting files. I manually delete files from my Unraid box either from my Windows box or through MC. Either way, Plex does not recognize that they have been deleted and their entries still show up. How can I batch delete files and have plex update it's database accordingly?

I have all the Library options checked in PMS but nothing happens when I delete files.

Any pointers would be great.

Plex has a concept called "soft delete". It's meant to protect any valuable meta data from accidental deletion when eg. a network drive is temporarily disconnected from PMS. When you update a library section after a file is deleted it should have a yellow exclamation mark next to it. If you wish to permanently remove any such entries you do it by emptying the trash. See below for full explanation:

I don't personally share any libraries due to having a very narrow upstream but I would expect them to appear in the same list as the any local libraries. You have logged in with the client?

No go. When I delete a file and hit refresh, it doesn't acknowledge that it has been deleted. There is no yellow exclamation mark like the guide says.

Yes, I logged in.  I'll look at it again when I get home, but I just wasn't able to locate the shared lib.

How about a "Deep scan" and then emptying the trash?

Plexupdater NOT updating to Version 0.9.8.7.186

I put an issue on Benni Chan's github

it is only the url which changed again ...

but above my paygrade as it changes the way the plugin knows there is an update ....

so regex people will have to have a look to update it or Benni chan of course ... hope he has normal internet again ....

confirmed, not showing any update available

My account was not logged in correctly - and that is why the Shared Content wasn't showing up.  After entering the correct MyPlex account info, I now see a Shared Content item on the left hand side, along with the other menu items.  PMS is working great!  That said, I'm looking forward to trying PHT.
