May 24, 201313 yr Maybe it doesn´t affect performance but due to the constant writes to the log-file it prevents my HDD from spindown. Does somebody know a way to stop Plex from logging or move log to the flash drive?
May 24, 201313 yr In run plex off an app drive. The drive always spins anyway. It would probably kill your flash drive quicker if you logged to it and I wouldn't put any plugins on the array drives either.

I know that putting the Plex library on the array isn't the best idea but it worked great till the latest error appeared. Because i use no other plugins i see no reason to buy cache drive. Any idea if this is bug should be fixed on the unRAID or the Plex side?

It's not a cache drive, I just mount it in my go script. I only use about 10% of the space on that drive without 4-5 plugins running, so you don't need a massive drive. You could always try a spare USB stick, mounted for that purpose alone. They are pretty cheap these days. I don't know how long it would last, but the worst thing that would happen would be rebuilding your Plex library and settings. You could also back it up periodically. Regarding the warning you are seeing, you'll be better off posting to the plex forums. I've had good support there in the past, but you'll need to explain that you have it running on the array drives.

June 5, 201313 yr I used an old 120Gb drive, ran it through a preclear to test, format and partion the drive. I then formated it in unmenu. I've never used a flash drive, it would work I would think, but I'm not sure how reliable it would be long term. In the link is what I added to my go script, and rebooted (or you could do it manually). The echo parts are only needed once to establish some info in smb-extra.conf, and after you could just remove them. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=18046.msg226021#msg226021 Good luck. You could also add a cache drive, but I'm using the 3 drive version and the cache isn't an option. For me it's been persistent, the drive is always labeled the same because it's running of the optical drive bay SATA connection on my N40L and gets counted as an IDE drive.
June 17, 201313 yr I have a question for you guys. I am looking into running PMS on my Hp N36l and Poobox. Anyway, I understand unraid is unsecure and you don't want to expose it to the internet. However, would using PMS and logging in from outside the house to watch movies, etc... be considered open to the internet and make it unsecure? Since it is opening my unraid to the outside world? I remember someone explained it with crashplan that it is still secure even though it can upload and download to the outside world... Would appreciate your help guys
June 18, 201313 yr I have a few problems with mkv movies with embedded subs (SRT, ASS, PGS, VOB subs) I was wondering if anyone can relate? 1- ASS embedded subtitles give a green slimer effect. http://i44.tinypic.com/e5o3h4.jpg 2- On 0.9.7.28 and 0.9.8 .mkv files with embedded subs that are larger then 2gb are not scanned properly. Smaller sample files are fine. (subtitles don't work in plex web with files bigger then 2GB, transcoding) 3- On 0.9.8 subtitles choice in plexweb "sticks" the first pick always remains visible when playing the movie in plexweb. pick english subs -> always shows english, even when choosing spanish or another language sub. The last version that works best with subs is: 0.9.7.17

June 19, 201313 yr 127Gb? Are you sure. I have all my apps running off a 120Gb drive, and it's only 10% full. The plex folder is only 3.6Gb in total. I would post up on the plex forum about that. Mines been running for a few months and I have one Plex DLNA Server Neptune file and one Plex DLNA Server Neptune.old both with nothing in them. Have you tried optimising and cleaning bundles and empting the trash? On the plex ui, click Home, over on the right click more, the options are there. It might tidy it up? @rvandaalen, I would post that question on the plex support forum too. I know there are issues with subs in mkv files. I've found it works on some devices, and not on others. @maxse, it should be secure because you need a plex account to use the feature so the plex client talks to the plex servers to find where you server is, and connects you up. At least that's my understanding of it, but I haven't used the feature. I think my 500Mb data limit would get sucked up pretty quick on my phone! lol You might also be better off asking in the Plex forums because there are people there that can support the app itself. The unraid plex thread is really for unraid installations, and unraid specific trouble shooting.

Any ideas? Sounds like it could be a permission issue. What account is the owner of the Plex Media Server application/data folders? I believe it should be the "unraid-plex" account.

Telnet into your unRAID box and run the following command, replacing the path with the correct location of your PMS app data folder: ls -al /mnt/cache/apps It will probably return something like the below, with the root account as the owner/group: ... drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 112 2013-05-04 16:58 Plex/ ... It should be set so that the unraid-plex account and users group are the owners ... drwxr-xr-x 4 unraid-plex users 112 2013-05-04 16:58 Plex/ ... To fix this, stop Plex from running. Then run the following command to change the owner, again updating the path for your location: chown -R unraid-plex:users /mnt/cache/apps/Plex

If it's from scratch, I'd rename/delete the contents of: /mnt/cache/appdata/Plex/Application Support I'm thinking having the correct premisisons from a fresh start may help. And you're losing anything important if the library hasn't been setup. If you've migrated from a previous install, did you follow this guide? Specifically the part about not moving the contents of the folder: .../Plex Media Server/Plug-ins I migrated my library from Mac to unRAID a little while back, and the folder the log mentions sounded familiar (.../Plex/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins), hence the question

June 27, 201313 yr So it appears that it's not downloading any bundles into /mnt/cache/appdata/Plex/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins Does your unRAID box have access to the Internet? There are a few issues similar to yours (from log messages) mentioned on the Plex forums, different resolutions though: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/43965-new-issues-in-the-last-day-or-two/ http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/71762-unable-to-add-any-media-folders/ Might be worth following up over there, as it seems to be a Plex related issue rather than unRAID.
June 27, 201313 yr Okay.. you struck a bell with not being connected to the internet and I wasn't. So I fixed that.. still cant add sections and no scanners or anything showing.. now the only error that is standing out is this one.. June 27, 201313 yr Just noticed my cache server has approx 127Gb of plex log files. Plex DLNA Server Neptune-<DATE>.log should it auto purge ? Or is there a quick and easy way of purging most of the logs ? (over 4000) Thanks for the help, was in debug and full of logs. Had it listed as i couldnt understand why it wasnt updating. This was due to permissions!

Got to admit I'm running out of ideas, but I'd try: While connected to the Internet Stop the Plex service, via the plug-in page in Settings Delete the contents of /mnt/cache/appdata/Plex/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins Start the Plex service again
