I wasn't having a go.  To be honest more unraid savvy people use the command line to restart programs etc but I found a simple reboot fixed my issue.

Have you tried the cleaning bundles, empty trash and and optimise settings in Plex?

What have you got set under Settings > Library?  I've got "Update my library automatically" and "Empty trash automatically after every scan" ticked.

When did you update to v0.9.8.5.165-c301c50 and did the problems start then?

Also where are you storing your plex settings etc.  A cache or apps drive?  Is there enough space, and is the drive SMART test ok.

haha yeah i know you weren't!!! i was being serious about the fact that all i really can do is restart!!!

yes have done the clean command, empty trash, and optimize several times

under library settings- i have update automatically ticked, internal every 12 hours, also update library periodically.  didn't have empty trash selected but i can...i think what's troubling me more is that even when i manually choose refresh it instantly says 'library scan complete'

i think i updated to 9.8.4 a couple of weeks ago.. i think the problem started then but only realized it recently... have been busy with family stuff and haven't used plex in awhile, and then yesterday i noticed the last two weeks of shows, and some movies, hadn't been in the recently added files... so i thought that the automatic update wasn't working, i went to manually refresh library, and then noticed its not working

after discovering the problem, i tried downgrading to 9.7 something, thinking that the new version was 'bad' somehow.  rebooted, no change.  then i think today a new version came out 9.8.5... i thought aha they realized there was a problem and released a new version!  so updated a couple hours ago, rebooted, but still no change

here's a pic of settings. cache reports 50 gb free.

i would almost think i have a permission problem, but i can access and play all previously added files in plex... it just won't seem to scan new ones?

That's the problem I had, it said the scan was finished super quick but after a reboot it was working fine.  Ummmm.

Have you tried the plex forum?  If you find a solution post it back up here, I'll keep looking too.

hmm well i've had a few reboots... prob 5 today, but then i was upgrading and downgrading etc...

i do have a post on the plex forums, but seems super quiet and unhelpful there!

so a reboot fixed your problem but you didn't do anything else, change user, etc??

i would probably be willing to do a total removal, and fresh install... maybe something got corrupted?  i can't quite figure out how to do a complete removal though

I just rebooted, and then refreshed the library, and checked the log and it was picking up all the episodes it was missing.

ran the fix permissions command overnight, but still no luck this morning....

Did you try running a deep scan?

Yes tried regular and deep. Have you upgraded to same version and is it working fine?

hi guys, I need to install a new cache drive, and all my plex junk is stored there.

lib:  /mnt/cache/plugins/plex

temp: /tmp

What is the best way to back up plex directories so I can put them back on the new cache drive?  Can I just connect via SMB and copy it to another drive?

update:  I just figured I'd give it a try, so I disabled Plex and then tried to copy - was denied access, even though the SMB share settings are set for Full R/W access.  wtf?

Im doing this myself tomorrow.  The last time I did it, I just stopped Plex and CrashPlan, backed up my cache drive to the array using MC, installed the new cache drive, copied it back, then restarted Plex and CrashPlan.

let me know if it works for you.  As I noted with the edit, I was denied access, would not let me copy.  I'm using Total Commander on my Win 7 rig.  There may be some permission issues.

How did it go?  I was hoping to swap my cache drive out today, but I want to save all that junk so PMS doesn't have to download it again. I also don't want to have to re-create anything, Lib. etc.

Thanks

I've also done this in the past. The easiest way is to use MC and copy the data from the cache to an array location (or another mounted non-array drive), replace the cache, then copy the data back to the new cache drive.  As the previous poster stated, Plex (and any other plugins that store data on the cache drive) need to be stopped during the entire process.

Ok, I must be missing something.  I keep getting access denied when it gets to the "mnt/cache/plugins/plex/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/PhotoTranscoder" directories.

I have SMB export turned on for cache drive, and I even set it to Public.  I removed the PMS plugin and rebooted to ensure PMS was not running or had any files open.  I connect via my Win7 rig and SMB.  That's where it stops.

@ dirtysanchez - You say to use MC, which I think is Midnight Commander.  That is a mac app so I assume you are accessing your unraid server via your mac and using MC?  Can you tell me if you are connecting via AFP or SMB?

Should I try to manually copy on the server itself using my console?  I would have to look up the commands, but perhaps this would side step the permission issue I'm running into.

Edit:  Ok the light went off, slow I know.  I just realized that you are running the mc version included with unraid.  I have never used it before, but will certainly try it for this project.  Because I would be logged in as Root, there won't be a issues with access.  Can't wait to try it and swap my cache drive.

Yes, I am referring to the version of MC included in unRaid which I run from a telnet session (my server is headless).  Copying directly on the server as root negates the permission issues as you realized. It's a great tool for moving files around within the server.

Sorry, I should have been more explicit in my original post, I was unaware there was also a Mac version of MC.

yikes, having major problems, desparate for help!

had a great working setup that i noticed stopped refreshing the library, about 3 weeks ago.  tried a million things, but whenever i clicked 'refresh library' it just instantly said 'completed, some additional info may be downloading from the internet'.  i have updated the library a zillion times before, and always watched it scan through items, etc.  with this problem it just instantly said completed

so tonight i took the desperate problem of fully deleting, and fully reinstalling.  when i add a media source, and click refresh library, it just immediately says the same as above!  so before tonight, i could still play all my media (except for the ones it wouldn't add in teh last 3 weeks) and now unfortunately plex has no content whatsoever due to the reinstall!

i have three ladies in my house who all use plex daily to watch their media!  i am not very popular right now!!!

here are my new logs, i have no idea what to look for!  please help!

What version of unraid are you running? There was a bug to do with file time stamps, but was fixed in 5.0 final. Can you run a deep scan? If not, could be permissions...try running the new permissions script under the utilities tab in unraid webgui.

hi there, i am on 5.0 beta 12a

i have run the permissions script a couple of times, with no change, but i can try again

i definitey can't run a deep scan, can't do regular or deep.  either way just instantly says library scan complete... even though i now have literally no files showing in plex!

also now noticing that after the fresh install, i can only access plex for an hour or two... the unraid settings page says plex is running but i don't think it is because i can't access the plex web interface

aargh!

i presume you've rebooted unraid at some point in all this.... When you reinstalled, did you install to a new directory? In .../Plex/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/ delete all the .bundle files. Have you run a parity check recently? Do you use any other plugins?

If it was me and as you've already done a lot of irepariable damage, i would start again....download latest plex, reboot your server, set a new installation path and add a new section....then is that works, re-add your old sections.

EDIT** Also worth checking...is it on your network correctly? cable plugged in, run command: ifconfig eth0

i have rebooted unraid several times...

i did a fresh install of plex... by fresh, i mean deleted the install package, and deleted the plex media library folder on cache drive which had a billion files, i beleive for my library and other things.  deleted every plex related file i could find, then replaced the newest version of the install file.  plex started running on boot, but when i tried to add a media source, i could not add files, when hitting library refresh (deep or regular) it just immediately said 'library scan complete' yet no files were added.  i then noticed about an hour later that plex said 'stopped' in the unraid settings page, no idea why.  tried to click 'enable' but it wouldn't start.  rebooted server again, and plex started again, but couldn't add, etc, and then stopped again later!!!

so maybe something else is going on but have no idea what!

i will try the network command you referenced (will have to be tonight, have to take a break from fixing this to actually get paid!!!)

Glad you got your cache drive swapped. MC is the only way to go for intra-server file moves/copies.  ;D

I agree but to keep permissions correct it was my belief you needed to use USER nobody with 5.0.  So I always use the following to execute MC when I move around files:
sudo -u nobody mc

I will activate my PMS plugin in a couple of days and we'll see if the cache drive swap worked.  I hope I don't have any permission issues, but my guess is that Plex will just fix it when it loads.
