December 2, 201312 yr confirm that you have created a share called [anything you want] and that you have set it to "cache only". Can I get something straight in my head first. 1. do i have to have a cache drive to run PMS? 2. if not , do i have to have the pro version as I only have the basic version of unraid and it does not offer me the option of cache only when creating a share. thanks all for your efforts, really appreciated.

But at least one array disk and parity will never spin down because of plex writing to its logs. 2) No cache required, and thus no PRO needed. On top of that, if you want to not get PRO and you don't want to story your Plex library on your array, then you can mount a drive outside the array (and not as cache) to act as your "app drive". I detailed how to do that earlier and in a new thread I made. I specificly talk about using an SSD (for obvious non-spinning reasons) but the instructions are 95% the same for an HDD So as to the line you quoted from me ... yes technically you just have to be sure you have created a real share somewhere and are pointed at that. IIRC for people using the array for their library database, you need to create the share on a single disk, and then point Plex at THE DISK (i.e. /mnt/diskX/[share name)]. Do not point plex at /mnt/user. I seem to recall somewhere in this thread folks having trouble with that; but don't ask me to back that up.
December 2, 201312 yr Ok thanks for all that. I started from scratch. created the share https://www.dropbox.com/s/lsbwdorozsz61dd/Screenshot%202013-12-02%2016.12.56.png added the share to the plex setup page https://www.dropbox.com/s/ss4miyogkyb94un/Screenshot%202013-12-02%2016.14.09.png ran plex and pointed it at the media folders. https://www.dropbox.com/s/f9dm18o2srruz21/Screenshot%202013-12-02%2016.15.11.png nothing shows except this when i run a deep scan, and this is almost instant. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nuaaqgrrbzyoeox/Screenshot%202013-12-02%2016.15.59.png I must be missing a trick here somewhere..

December 2, 201312 yr links no worky Only tried one link but it worked for me. Got a graphic of which I posted a partial below. @russlock: So I assume, without pics, that you have created a share called "appsdata" and exactly that. Not "appdata" or "Appsdata" Correct. And it is limited to disk1? And you can see that it actually exists on disk1?
December 2, 201312 yr Yikes! I use a link that I found somewhere in the forums...I thought it was the correct link! I'm pretty sure it was the link in post #1 of this thread. Henris, do you have a link to better instructions? Then I'll shut up and go read the official guide to see what else I missed! I managed to put an empty link to my previous post, it's now modified. It should have pointed to the pinned thread on Plex forums and to it's third message which in my mind contains the easiest unRAID/PMS setup guide: https://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/66930-helpful-unraid-links/#entry387455 As JumperAlex pointed out you can definitely use (almost) whatever folders you wish but I always recommend to use the ones on guides unless you now what you are doing. The guide contains installation on both cache and data disks. nothing shows except this when i run a deep scan, and this is almost instant. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nuaaqgrrbzyoeox/Screenshot%202013-12-02%2016.15.59.png I must be missing a trick here somewhere.. I think we need the PMS logs. Since it is scanning, though only with the deep option, the folder definitions seems now correct. The logs are located under the library folder in "Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs/". You are running the latest unRAID or at least anything after the 5.0 Final? There used to be problems with unRAID 4.7 related to last access times but this doesn't sound like the same problem.

December 3, 201312 yr Russ, I'm not familiar with the web interface you're using, so I"m not quite sure how to read it. I'm looking at your screenshot here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dzqty7lay750bz2/Screenshot%202013-12-02%2022.54.59.png Did you define and setup a SHARE named 'disk1'? December 4, 201312 yr ok this is all very confused now because in the shares tab of unraid you should not be seeing disk1 and disk2 listed. I guess my first question is why aren't you pointing PMS towards /mnt/user/tv It shouldn't make a difference UNLESS [thinking] ... is there a chance you made a share called TV, and using the high-water allocation method all your actual tv shows are stored on disk2? because it WILL do that. More importantly, if you are dealing with a user share that spans disks you NEED to point to /mnt/user/[share] anyway or you'll miss stuff from one disk or the other.

December 4, 201312 yr Russlock... I think jumperalex is on the right track...confusion about 'disk1'. What do you all think ?? thanks russ
December 5, 201312 yr No the problem is possibly that you seem to have shares actually called disk1 and disk2. Unraid did not create those. You did. You had to. The nuance i think you've missed is that unraid can EXPORT your disks (see attached) but doesn't do it by default. Which is not the same as creating shares called diskX which it seems you have done. Before you go through trying to do what I say below, what is the output of: ls -al /mnt/user/tv and ls -al /mnt/user/disk1 and ls -al /mnt/user/disk2 Post those here, but i'm betting you're got data in one "disk1" but are pointing your plex gui at another "disk1" ... at this point it is the only thing that makes sense, especially since your permissions seem to be correct as well. ============================== Assuming I'm right you'll need to move you tv shows folders: out of /mnt/user/diskX into /mnt/user/tv and out of /mnt/diskX/tv to /mnt/user/tv Then delete your plex library locations (from the plex gui) and re-add them pointing towards /mnt/user/tv
December 5, 201312 yr ok just looked closer at your screen shot. All your data is in: /mnt/user/tv (252 GB) and is stored physically on /mnt/disk1/tv (208GB) and /mnt/disk2/tv (43.7Gb) HOWEVER, you are pointing plexgui at: /mnt/disk1/tv (0 GB) See the difference? You need to point it at: /mnt/user/tv I'm not going to address the fact yet that technically plex SHOULD be seeing at least the data I can tell is in /mnt/disk1/tv because lets get everything right. That means, you also need to use the Unraid Share's tab to delete your "disk1" and "disk2" SHARE that i can clearly see in your screen shot and from the results of the last "ls" command. shit this might just be easier via hangouts ...
December 5, 201312 yr ...shit this might just be easier via hangouts ... This 'disk1' thing is an easy mistake. There are several other threads with the same issue. True Confessions: And when i first set up my unraid server, I mistakenly defined a 'disk1' share and set it to 'include' just 'disk1'! Perhaps the names 'disk1', 'disk2', 'diskX', etc. should be reserved and be not allowed as SHARE names.
December 6, 201312 yr On a side note, my programming skills are useless, but is there any way someone can combine both plex and the updater in one pkg? seems silly to have 2 icons when (if possible) it could be in the same tab for neatness. +1 This would be helpful in keeping the Settings Page in SF or Plugin Page on WebGui clean and maximize screen real estate. Is there a possibility of this happening? I hate to bump this, but is there any chance of this being combined into one plugin?
