March 6, 201412 yr OK. Let me explain in more detail how things are installed by unRAID. unRAID does the following for you when booting up: [*]Use installpkg to install all slackware packages which exist in /boot/extra. (.txz and .tgz files) plex .txz belongs in this folder. [*]Use installplg to install all plugins which exist in /boot/plugins. (.plg files) This folder is for system plugins and they install before the user plugins. The only thing you should have in here is the Dynamix webGUI [*]Use installplg to install all plugins which exist in /boot/config/plugins. (.plg files) This folder is for user plugins and they install after the system plugins. All of your other plugins belong here, including the Dynamix plugin control [*]Invoke the /boot/go script. And you should only have one version (if any) of serviio or any other plugin. Thanks a lot! I've cleaned it up as you told me. Plex seems to be there, but it is not starting, however I modified the config a little bit by changing several pathes #[PMS Settings] #START_CONFIGURATION #Set autostart with array ENABLED="true" RUNAS="unraid-plex" #Set home of Plex Media Server PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_HOME="/mnt/user/plex/home" #Set home for Plex metadata PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR="/mnt/user/plex/Library" #the number of plugins that can run at the same time PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_PLUGIN_PROCS=6 #ulimit -s PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_STACK_SIZE=10000 #ulimit -l #PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_LOCK_MEM=3000 #ulimit -n PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_OPEN_FILES=4096 #where the mediaserver should store the transcodes PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_TMPDIR="/mnt/user/plex/tmp" #STOP_CONFIGURATION No matter what I do, the status remains "Stopped" and plex is not reachable via webserver or anything else... March 6, 201412 yr Your paths bring up another concern... oh oh...is that another candidate for the "Best Practices List of 'Reserved Names'"? (along with 'disk1', 'disk2', etc.)
March 7, 201412 yr Not exactly. It's similar to what was going on over here. He is having plex use a folder at /mnt/user/plex instead of for example /mnt/user/apps/plex. This makes me think that perhaps he has accidentally created a lot of user shares by creating folders directly in /mnt/user for each of his apps and who knows what else.

March 7, 201412 yr OK. Looks like you don't have a cache drive, and /mnt/user is not as bad as I thought it might be. Each folder in /mnt/user is a share. Did you create each of those shares, or did you just somehow create the folders? If you didn't create each of them then unRAID will use default settings on any you didn't create and haven't configured yourself. The default share settings include all disks. That might not be what you want. Check each of your /mnt/diskx folders to see which disks each of those shares are on. Some of them, such as plex and transmission, should probably be confined to a single disk. What people usually do is create a share for their applications, for example, apps, and make it cache-only or have it include only one disk. Then put each of their applications in a folder within the apps share. So, for example, there would be a share at /mnt/user/apps, and it would be configured to include a single disk. Then plex would be in /mnt/user/apps/plex instead of being a separate share that needs to be configured separately. I don't think this is what is actually stopping plex from running though. Have you rebooted since cleaning up? If not, do. Then post a new syslog.
March 7, 201412 yr I created the shares using unRaid. The apps share use only one disk and have splitting configured to zero. The syslog I posted was created after a reboot.
March 7, 201412 yr A complete syslog. Those few lines don't tell me anything that you don't already know. The only syslog I see attached anywhere is that first one where you had your plugins in the wrong folders.
March 8, 201412 yr I've started getting the following error: Mar 7 08:49:42 UNRAID kernel: Plex Media Serv[22654]: segfault at 0 ip 081d8d9e sp 9f675570 error 4 in Plex Media Server[8048000+6de000] I've been running Plex Media Server on unraid since the beginning of time, and after the first few revisions, it became VERY stable, and never crashed. Recently (version .9.8.x+) I've had to re-start my Plex Media Server repeatedly about every 1-2 days. I'm running PMS .9.9.5 (but again it's been happening since the early .9.8.x. I'm also running UNRAID version 5.0.5, but again this has been happening at least since UNRAID 5.0 went final. I'm also running SABNZBD, COUCH POTATO, and SICKBEARD, but that's about it. No simple features, unmenu, or any other unusual plugin. It's a pretty clean system. I have a pretty large library (3500+ titles), so I'd rather not delete and re-install, but will if I have to. Can someone help me track down this problem? Is it software or hardware?, at least then I'd know where to start looking. Thanks Mike
March 8, 201412 yr A complete syslog. Those few lines don't tell me anything that you don't already know. However I just reseted the Settings and its working now - so thanks for your help!
March 8, 201412 yr How do I install this plugin? Do I need to create boot/extra/ or? See Post #1 in this forum. Typically, the #1 post for a plugin is kept current with changes, etc.
March 8, 201412 yr It does not say, do I create boot folder and then the extra folder or just the extra folder?
March 8, 201412 yr It does not say, do I create boot folder and then the extra folder or just the extra folder? You definitely do NOT create the boot folder. Where would you create it? The boot folder is the top level of your flash drive. At the Linux command line, /boot refers to the flash drive. If you ls -al /boot you will see the files and folders at the top level of your flash drive. If you share the flash drive so you can access it while unRAID is up, Windows (or whatever) will see that as a share named flash. That is also the top level of your flash drive. You could create a boot folder on your flash drive, but then unRAID would see that as /boot/boot and Windows would see it as /flash/boot. Not what you want. tl;dr You can create the extra folder if it does not already exist. You create it at the top level of your flash drive.
March 9, 201412 yr damn. After rebooting plex was there, but all Settings are lost... What happened? Syslog attached... syslog.txt

March 9, 201412 yr Your library is in a temporary location and I belive is only stored in ram. Set the library location to /mnt/cache/anyfolderyoulike if you have a cache drive. If not use a disk share like /mnt/user/diskx/anyfolderyoulike
March 9, 201412 yr /tmp is in RAMfs. The only locations that will survive a reboot are folders in /boot and /mnt. You should use some location in /mnt/user or /mnt/diskx for your library. If you have a cache disk the preferred method is to have a cache-only share, name it apps or whatever, and put your library in /mnt/user/apps/plex, for example. If you don't have a cache disk you can put your apps share on some other disk, so you would have /mnt/disk1/apps/plex, for example.
March 9, 201412 yr I changed the Library dir to "/boot/config/plugins/plexmediaserver/Library" The Server is starting, but i can not reach the webinterface. http://tower:32400/ -> will display the XML config http://tower:32400/manage -> gives a 404 Plex Config: #[PMS Settings] #START_CONFIGURATION #Set autostart with array ENABLED="true" RUNAS="unraid-plex" #Set home of Plex Media Server PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_HOME="/usr/local/plexmediaserver" #Set home for Plex metadata PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR="/boot/config/plugins/plexmediaserver/Library" #the number of plugins that can run at the same time PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_PLUGIN_PROCS=6 #ulimit -s PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_STACK_SIZE=10000 #ulimit -l #PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_LOCK_MEM=3000 #ulimit -n PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_OPEN_FILES=4096 #where the mediaserver should store the transcodes PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_TMPDIR="/tmp" #STOP_CONFIGURATION
March 9, 201412 yr Try this for the Web Interface: http://tower:32400/web And you don't want to install your Plex library on your flash drive! If you don't have a cache drive, install the library to an array drive: /mnt/disk1/apps/plexmediaserver/Library

You will kill your flash drive in short order. I also suggest you do not keep tmp on /tmp because it can use a LOT of memory and you risk running out of memory. Your entire transcode session gets stored there.
March 12, 201412 yr Hi, i just updated to v6.0-b3 and now the PlexMediaServer won't start. I use the Plex*.txz (in /boot/extra/), manually installed via terminal (installpkg /boot/extra/Plex*.txz). I also can not start the PMS over the WebGui. The syslog + PMS Logs are attached (syslog error "Plex has NOT started yet, something is maybe wrong!") syslog.txt Plex_Media_Server.log.txt
