January 25, 201412 yr The Plex Updater plugin has been updated now to work with Plex Pass releases on the new Plex website. The plugin can be updated from the GUI. https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/51827-unraid-update-plugin/?p=562657
February 3, 201412 yr I hate to cross post from the plex forums, but as most have said, the unRAID area is pretty slow, so... I'm about to pull my hair out on a new unRAID build. I can get Plex installed, but the first time I restart, it disappears. I've tried installing with the bare .txz file, I've tried installing with plexupdater with the same results. When I install, the icon appears on the settings page, and I configure the library and temp directories to the cache. I can access the Plex/Web (although I've not gone through the process of setting up my library.) But on the first reboot, the configuration page disappears, and Plex/Web is not accessible. The .txz file is in the /boot/extra/ folder I'm really lost.
February 3, 201412 yr I think I may have something else going on with the server not retaining settings. I have Influencer's transmission plugin running as well, and while it restarted after a reboot, It did not have the one torrent I had loaded before the reboot. This is probably out of the scope of this post, but is there an easy way to rebuild the server from scratch without losing almost 4TB or data on it? Or at least without copying it off then back on again? To answer the previous 2 questions: I have both the temp and the library directories pointing to /mnt/cache/applications/Plex/temp and /library respectively and I have a share called applications that is set to cache only. I have tried to install both with the plugin and with the txz file and installpkg. Both install fine, but the server doesn't restart after a reboot. In fact it doesn't seem to exist at all, but if I re run the installation from the plexupdater, the settings are retained and everything works... until the next reboot.
February 3, 201412 yr Again I'm very new to unRAID, so am I correct that the Plex installation doesn't so much "install" as it installs every time the server reboots, but the settings are maintained? The reason I ask is because it appears the installation happens on boot, but it doesn't add the icon to the settings page of the unRAID webGui, and the server doesn't auto start. I can telnet to /etc/rc.d and run "rc.plexmediaserver start" and PMS starts up. At least so far as I can go to 192.168.1.225:32400/web and it works. The icon never appears in the unRAID webGui.
February 3, 201412 yr Again I'm very new to unRAID, so am I correct that the Plex installation doesn't so much "install" as it installs every time the server reboots, but the settings are maintained? Yes, the Plex server gets installed every time you reboot. The Plex package file (PlexMediaServer-0.9.8.18.290-11b7fdd-unRAID.txz) needs to be placed in the /boot/extras folder on the USB flash device. This will result in Plex being installed automatically during every reboot. The configuration settings are saved on the USB flash device in the /boot/config/plugins/plexmediaserver folder. This file will be created automatically during Plex install if it is not already present. From the unRaid WebGui, you can specify the disk location to store the Plex library and database files. I use a cache drive so my path is: /mnt/cache/apps/plex If you don't have a cache drive you can use: /mnt/disk1/apps/plex The Plex settings are on the "Settings" tab of the WebGui. Which WebGui are you using?

February 8, 201412 yr Are you supposed to see multiple instances of the plex server install? I'm using 0.9.9.2. there is only one PMS package in the extra folder in the boot dir. My server works just fine. during the boot up sequence I see it install the 0.9.9.2 then after that installs I get a bunch of small lines of code that show multiple older versions apparently installed or at least says it's installed. I'll attach my log but the readout I'm seeing doesn't appear to be in the log file so I'll include a pic too. log.zip
February 13, 201412 yr Hi I need a little help I just set up a second Unraid system to test the new V6 beta software which is all fine except I used a cache drive from my other system and on that cache drive there is still a share from Plex named apps also a share named cache , I have been trying to delete what is in the cache share (app dir. and sub dir.) and the apps share itself all related to Plex, it seems like it's deleted the files but they are still there after delete completes. I ran new permission with no success any input or help or different method to delete these shares and clean the cache drive? Thanks for any help and input. lou

They are used to stored information that normally goes into extended attributes on HFS+ volumes. You can safely delete the ._ files.
March 5, 201412 yr I installed and configured plex. But after rebooting the NAS Plex and everything seems to be gone. It does not appear on the Settings menu, neither it is avialable via any browser. What happened?!

What happened?! Are you running Dynamix? Yep Disable it for a moment and I bet Plex will work on the reboot.
March 5, 201412 yr Any way it get them both up and running? Confirm its Dynamix first that is breaking it. If it is I believe you can workaround the issue by installing the plugin manually after Dynamix has started through telnet.
March 5, 201412 yr I never had any problem with Plex and Dynamix working together. Post a syslog. Same here.
March 5, 201412 yr I never had any problem with Plex and Dynamix working together. Post a syslog. Same here. What version of unraid are you running? I am happy that others are not having the issue but a friend of mine just setup a new box not three days ago with this exact problem. Running 5.0.5
March 5, 201412 yr Your syslog indicates that you have all of your plugins in /boot/plugins. This folder is reserved for system plugins. The only plugin that you should have in this folder is the main Dynamix plugin. All of your other plugins belong in /boot/config/plugins. It also looks like you are installing multiple versions of jre and serviio. Why are you installing both serviio and plex? Post the results of ls -al /boot/plugins and ls -al /boot/config/plugins

March 6, 201412 yr Plex will not even be installed the way you have these folders unless you are doing so manually or through the go script. Quite a mess. 7 versions of serviio! You should just delete everything in both of these folders and then work on getting one thing setup at a time correctly. Ask questions.
March 6, 201412 yr OK. Let me explain in more detail how things are installed by unRAID. unRAID does the following for you when booting up: [*]Use installpkg to install all slackware packages which exist in /boot/extra. (.txz and .tgz files) plex .txz belongs in this folder. [*]Use installplg to install all plugins which exist in /boot/plugins. (.plg files) This folder is for system plugins and they install before the user plugins. The only thing you should have in here is the Dynamix webGUI [*]Use installplg to install all plugins which exist in /boot/config/plugins. (.plg files) This folder is for user plugins and they install after the system plugins. All of your other plugins belong here, including the Dynamix plugin control [*]Invoke the /boot/config/go script. And you should only have one version (if any) of serviio or any other plugin.
