December 9, 201213 yr <snip> Thanks to newznab, it's unlikely that indexing will ever go away and it's unlikely that you'll need to pay for it again if you don't want to. How practical is it to run your own personal 'experimental' newznab server? What are expected requirements for a server and bandwidth? Strictly for educational purposes only.
December 9, 201213 yr Nzbdotsu is sill up, just logged in. Probably mysterbin and binsearch as well. Mysterbin closed a little while back.

December 9, 201213 yr looks like torrents are the way to go now i'll never go back to torrents... too unsafe... several of my friends got a warning with a cease-and-desist order (not sure, if that's the correct english term...). they had to pay several hundred euro... I've been using private trackers for a while now, as do all of my friends and we are yet to encounter an issues. Do you know if your friends were using public trackers? But I'm shocked nzbmatrix got shut down! What's going on here!?
December 9, 201213 yr But I'm shocked nzbmatrix got shut down! What's going on here!? Ditto. What can we do now?
December 9, 201213 yr But I'm shocked nzbmatrix got shut down! What's going on here!? Ditto. What can we do now? so am I right in thinking you can run newznab indexing software privately and use that to access the likes of supernews etc?

December 9, 201213 yr This sucks. In the last several months I moved to sab, sick and couch with nzbmatrix. Not sure what the way forward is, hopefully something surfaces.

December 9, 201213 yr ok, so I have the indexer running on Unbuntu on Parallels. Just figuring the rest of it - kinda like the blind leading the blind!
December 9, 201213 yr Anyone have nzb.su invite?? Nzb.su closed registrations and revoked all invites until further notice. I was lucky, I had a freebie account and just upgraded t to VIP when I heard the nzbmatrix news. I wasn't quick enough to get onto the dog.
December 9, 201213 yr People are going to start selling accts. I saw one for sale on a Bitcoin auction site.
December 10, 201213 yr ok, so I have the indexer running on Unbuntu on Parallels. Just figuring the rest of it - kinda like the blind leading the blind! so I got this working!
December 10, 201213 yr ok, so I have the indexer running on Unbuntu on Parallels. Just figuring the rest of it - kinda like the blind leading the blind! so I got this working! Can you go into some more details? How easy was set up? How well does it index? And so forth. I'm thinking of renting a VPS or dedi for some friends and running this.
December 10, 201213 yr Hum... might be a good thing I grabbed a larger SSD for my laptop and plan on moving my older one over to my ESXi server. Will probably look at getting an Ubuntu VM up and running for myself, does not look like I have much of a choice.
December 10, 201213 yr Author So any chance of making this into a plug-in? Also I know it's probably too early to tell but how does this compare to newzbin, nzbmatrix and others?
December 10, 201213 yr You've used newznab indexers without realizing it. They compare pretty well and you can update the listing as often as you like via cron. I have an experimental newznab server running on unraid as we speak. It really doesn't have a lot of dependencies, the bulk of the work is in the webserver but it works fine with the simplefeatures web server plugin, albeit a little changing of the configs. Will require more testing though on how it impacts the servers performance.
December 12, 201213 yr MOD NOTE: I split the topic off and you can now find the newznab + unRAID integration thread in the Customization forum. PLEASE use that thread to discuss newznab and leave this thread for any updates related to nzb index sites shutting down, opening, etc.
December 13, 201213 yr Author gingadaddy went invite only, also they say they don't support Supernews and a bunch of others. What does that mean, if I use supernews will they not work?
December 13, 201213 yr Where did you see that they don't support supernews? And the nzb's can be used with any provider, all an nzb does is tell your newsreader where to find the files.
December 13, 201213 yr Author It was posted on the forms. Maybe I misunderstood what they are saying. One of the surprising results I found was that although Astraweb do comply with DMCA processing, they are known for doing so in a very slow manner. They have both servers in Singapore and US. So it may not be long until they have a immense pressure to speed things up in this area but they seem to be and always have been very reliable over the years. Also this is not new news. I just think it's worth pointing out for all those harry potter fans and most popular 360 releases who comment "No files found" or "Files Missing".
December 13, 201213 yr I think they are saying as far as completion goes they do not take completion on those servers into account since they are the main DMCA servers. It also could be for legal reasons that they stated that.
