steve1977
I still have a few 4 TBs, which I will upgrade one after the other to 6 TB. Two questions: 1) Is it as easy as shutting down Unraid and replacing the 4TB with the 6TB disk. And then just start up the array and it automatically start the process to rebuild the data from the "old" 4TB to the 6TB? I think it is, but would like to be on the save side before doing so. 2) I would like to replace the oldest 4TB / the one in worst condition. Is there a way without going through all individual smart tests to detect on one screen, which disk is best for me to replace? Thanks in advance for your help! Link to comment
ashman70
There is a process in the wiki I believe on how to do this. Out of curiosity, are you going to pre clear these new drives first? Link to comment
steve1977
Thanks. Yes, disk already cleared. What about my point (2)? Link to comment
ashman70
Not that I am aware of, wish there was as I have 30 disks in my largest unRAID server. I would compile a spreadsheet of all your disks, I have one, and in it ware things like power on hours, I usually replace the one with the most, if there is no other reason. Link to comment
steve1977
Thanks, that's exactly what I am planning to do. What info do you keep in your spreadsheet and how do you get the info. I just checked smart, but realized the disk age is not provided in the default smart info. Thanks again. Link to comment
ashman70
If you are able to bring up smart attributes, #9 is what you are looking for which is Power On Hours, this will tell you for long the disk has been powered on. I like to keep things like current pending sectors, offline uncorrectable, stuff like that. Link to comment
John_M
If you really don't want to go through the SMART reports then spin up all your disks and then look at the Dashboard screen. If you see a disk without a green "thumbs up" icon then that would be an obvious one to replace first. If they are all green then it doesn't much matter which you replace first. It isn't much trouble to skim through the SMART reports though. Click the thumb and select Attributes from the menu. Then right arrow moves you onto the next disk. Link to comment
steve1977
Oh, no idea how I over-looked #9 in smart settings. Indeed quite fast and easy to be done. Thanks! Link to comment
trurl
From one disk's attributes page, there are arrows in the upper right that will take you to the next disk's attributes page. Link to comment
steve1977
Cool. Got it, was super quick. Rebuilding now. Wish me luck that it finishes without any hickups. Link to comment
