  1. Assume this is abandoned? New release breaks it anyway. After stopping the array an error appears and you can't shutdown.
  2. Wish these cards were cheaper / more available in the UK. The adaptec card is nearly £1000.... RocketRaid I think I would have to import.
  3. Not just because its old, if it can't pass self tests.... and its old, then chances are its on the way out. Better safe than sorry in my book.
  4. OK the ram I have is registered, explains why it doesn't work. Doubt you have to use kits from that list as long as it compatible.
  5. Is anyone running an N36L with 16gb of RAM? Is a BIOS mod required?
  6. Funny some of my seagate drives managed to get to 50000 power on hours..... in under 2 years. buggy firmware ftw.
  7. http://www.aquatuning.co.uk/product_info.php/info/p6594_Nexus-Double-Twin-HDD-decoupling.html Nice one. Thanks.
  8. Is that X-swing still available anywhere? All the links in the avforums thread seem to be dead or out of stock.
  9. My server now seems to be running smoothly with 2gb of RAM rather than 1gb.
  10. Finally got around to buying keys and playing with this. So far I'm not having much luck. I'm thinking 1gb isn't enough ram for 3tb disks. Finder, explorer, teracopy and even mc locally all die horribly trying to manipulate files. There are no hints to any issue in the syslog so I'm pretty much guessing until the parity check finishes but the issue seems to be limited to the 3tb drive I have in there. Smart reports are also clean.
  11. Hmm, 2.5" 2tb drives would be nice. Then you could stick 4 in the top slot. Guess we are some way off those yet however. One of mine is humming away preclearing some 3tb drives. Build quality is pretty good as you would expect from HP. Yet to decide what to do with the "spare" one I bought
  12. I have 2000 movies and 6000 TV Episodes on my system and cache_dirs constantly spins up drives with the default settings. 6gb of RAM.
  13. Sandbox machine for browsing and other "dodgy" stuff. Common Sense 1.0 installed on my main windows desktop
  14. Graphs are funny. Choice is either good cooling or low noise. Both isn't an option.
  15. Another thing to add to this thread for folks in the UK.... Norco cases are available from X-Case http://www.xcase.co.uk
  16. They change their deals everyday the same as Scan, I agree that scan are cheaper at the moment but Aria are often cheaper than scan. A Couple of weeks ago I bought 2x WD20EARS for £105 from Scan, at the time Aria were cheaper for single drives and scan were cheaper for 2. Just depends on what deals are on what site.
  17. Add Aria too. They are more often that not cheaper than Scan. Check the super specials for the best prices, sometimes with free delivery. EDIT : Currently playing with some scripts and made this http://www.smokingcures.com/hdd/ to help me work out the best deal on a few UK suppliers websites..
  18. Didn't Lian-Li make a desk/case type setup? Maybe the alu looking one shown earlier in the thread. Doubt it would have been commercially successful. bit of a niche product.
  19. RevoDrives are pretty cheap now. 120gb is about £300 here.
  20. performance looks terrible according to the stats on that page, not much better than mechanical. (Obviously seek times will still be far superior to mechanical).
  21. You can achieve slightly higher density using 1tb 2.5" drives, but the disks themselves are 2x the price and thats before taking into consideration that you need twice the controller ports.
  22. The parity gets up to about 40C during parity, the cache drive sits at around 30-35, Disk 1 doesn't exist any more All of the other disks hover around 28-35 during parity. They are all 5400RPM apart from the Parity and cache which are 7200RPM. The Parity probably isn't in the ideal slot as far as cooling goes but it makes the cabling more logical.
  23. Here's a pic of an empty one open :- Drives come out easy enough, just pop it out and undo 4 little screws. Yes the 5-in-3 has 5 sata cables (red and orange in the picture) going into a backplane, also 3 molex power cables. The 4-in-3's have 4 sata and 2 molex. Review of the 5-in-3 with more images here :- http://www.bigbruin.com/2006/mb455spf_1
