  1. Purko, just curious, is the board in that box mini-ITX, or proprietary?
  2. LOL. I was hoping I wasn't the only one with a going on.
  3. I would have to add security to that list. Any box sold commercially like that should have at least the security of the Plus license. There's a lot of fallout over the Drobo with users getting burned by their draconian support and development structure. That being said, most people who buy NAS appliances know what RAID is and what it can give them, so they may not see the benefit in unRAID on its own. Those appliances also have VERY slick GUIs, some with Ajax controls. I think what unRAID is really missing is on the front end, and hopefully 5.0 will come a long way in addressing that. Exciting times!
  4. Please excuse me if this is in the wrong place, but I'm not sure where else it should be... So I know about MyMovies and eXtreme Movie Manager and Media Browser and on and on, but these are all windows solutions. I am wondering if any of you are using a Linux based scraper that handles the backend work of managing all your movies. The front end is not so important to me, because all my movies are streamed to appliances, thus having their own front ends. Is there something out there that is good at what it does, automated, fairly standardized in its file structures, and able to run alongside unRAID? I found this thread, but it's a few years old, and I know things have changed a lot since then.
  5. And the infinite loops run soooooooo much faster on these new multi-core pentium4 processors... Unfortunately, they seem to take as long to run... LOL
  6. The benefit of this platform being so adaptable means you guys can keep PHP while Tom can continue to stay interested in development with Ruby. In the end, we all win with a constantly maturing product that has a lot of customizable features and user-designed add-ons. And Joe and the guys are right. If any of you fellow coders had to learn on Fortran and Pascal, you can attest to the fact that coding is much more about engineering and design than it is syntax. Syntax is easy... finding your infinite loops and untrapped errors is not.
  7. Personally, I think there should be a third paid level, somewhere between the Plus and Pro, like 8 or 12 drives for $99. That would hit a sweet spot imo.
  8. Thanks Joe. It's all new to me, but thanks for the encouragement. lboregard - Just an FYI, you can open multiple sessions to your server remotely and run cycles on all your drives simultaneously.
  9. If you look here the value 253 refers to the drive being completely virgin and brand new. After your first cycle, that value drops to 200 indicating that the drive has no failures, but is no longer new. That SMART report looks clean to me, and I would bet that your second or third cycle will contain no changes. What 2TB drive are you using? I have 2 of them running 10 cycles atm and they are averaging about 28 hours for a full cycle. The old mobo I'm using is only SATA 150.
  10. That's what I was thinking too wholly, but I didn't want to distract him too much after the effort he put into the RB-1200 + website redo. We want 5.0. HOWEVER, I will say that the solution purko and others are using would probably be very cost effective. He could even bundle a Plus license in there and be below the $400 mark. EDIT: Apparently this box has quite a little following... http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3453.0
  11. It's kind of like when users tell me "it's broken". I have to ask them to give me the where, when, how, etc. The point is, without details, none of us could venture a guess much less give you any kind of answer that would be helpful. Do you have other traffic on your network when it's slow? Are you pulling from different disks that have different speeds? Do you have mice in the walls eating your cables...?
  12. It's a nice change, still clean, but more functional. I'm also digging the mid-level RB-1200 you added to the product lineup. Its a nicer pricepoint for those of us who can't imagine going beyond 12 drives. Great job!
  13. Okay, this REALLY caught my attention. Why oh why would I use a 135W Q6600 when I could use a 5W Dothan? I searched through the pimp thread and can only find your AMD system in there. Would you mind terribly giving us some links and pics of your setup? Intel's new Atom N450 chips look like they might be the thing I'm looking for... http://www.coolcomputing.com/article.php?sid=3495
  14. So the case came today, and I have to say, I'm a little mixed. The top fan in my case was completely destroyed, to the point of hanging by its power cord. Even worse, to get to the top fan, you have to remove the front bezel, then the top bezel. That's easy enough, until you get to the top control panel (USB + eSata + On/Off switch). The bezel will try to hang over the side, but the connected cables will not let it, and they will pull against the PCB that is mounted to the top. I had to replug all this when it came loose. Note to self: lay the case on its side before removing the top bezel. However, a quick call to Azza gave me hope. I spoke with Mickey, and he will be shipping an entire top fan assembly tomorrow at no cost. That made me feel a lot better that they were so responsive. The case itself is well built and well designed, with an overload of thumbscrews and plenty of room for components. The fit and finish is top notch. The corners and edges are all rolled. And I am checking to see if I can another HDD cage from them to finish the top3 bays out. I have already test fitted one of the other cages, and it will hold another one. I'm keeping the case for sure. UPDATE: I did confirm that the HDD cages can be purchased separately. From Azza... Yes, it’s $10 for HDD cage and $5 for red LED fan plus $5 shipping fee. Please send a check to: AZZA (USA) Technology Inc., Attn: Accounting Dept 201 Lemon Creek Dr. #B Walnut, CA 91789 Please attach a note to show what you wan to buy. And we will ship the goods to you Thank you AZZA
  15. I ordered this case last week and should be receiving it today. I will let you know how it works out. I ordered the 620HX model with the modular connectors. It's more expensive, but the fewer cables I have running around my case the better. FWIW, I ordered both these items from zipzoomfly.com because they had free shipping and were a lot cheaper than Newegg, who I use all the time. As a matter of fact, that case is $75 after rebates from them.
  16. If it really does increase the overall capacity by 10% or whatever, then this would have to replace your parity drive in your 1.5TB / disk array. Does the reallocation of block size create problems for other subroutines, like pre-clearing etc?
  17. I tend to trust google less and less these days. Besides, I was also looking for a link to an actual product that was being used by a someone on this forum. Thanks to everyone.
  18. Thank you Phatal, that is what I was asking. An example of a "locking" cable, for those of us who have no knowledge of such a thing.
  19. Can you provide an example?
  20. Retail kit, 2 per household... http://www.frys.com/product/5975474
  21. Ahh... I see. Well, have fun. That's gonna be a beast when you finish it.
  22. Hm... you mean 3TB server, right? FWIW, zipzoomfly has good deals on corsair power supplies, including the 850 hx. I just ordered a 620 hx myself from them. I love newegg, but sometimes the other guys are cheaper.
  23. I hate to dig up old threads, but this is exactly what I'm needing help with. I can get an Abit IP35 w/4 GB of RAM and a Quad 6600 for $150 from a guy who is upgrading. I know that's a lot of overkill, but it's cheaper than anything I could buy new unless I went REALLY low tech. So, my question is, will this board work with 4.5? bb80301, did you have to do a lot to get this board to behave? What has your experience been? Thanks guys.
  24. Okay, this is the first preclear of a Hitachi Deskstar 2TB 7200rpm drive, model HD32000IDK7. Am I correct in assuming this drive is healthy?
