  1. I dont know what your budget is and if you already have the case or not but... I would recommend leaning on a larger case with spare HHD slots... I have been using unraid for 10 years now... and I have housed the hdds in 5 different cases now... Currently on a 24 bay DAS and I might have to get another one soon... I have had good luck with 8tb drives. I havent had a single one go bad on me. Before this 4,5,6tb drives failed right and left. something to think about... Oh and I would recommend using SAS controller. You can add a sata drive to a sas controller but you cant add a SAS drive to a sata controller. SAS drives have worked well for me as well In short... using SAS enterprise drives is what I would recommend and giving yourself room to expand is a good problem to have
  2. normal CPU activity for this system is around 4-8%... I dont stream video from the server directly often... but shouldnt that be a LOW cpu task? why would the CPU spike to t49% on this task?
  3. Not sure this belongs here before I make a large hardware change... but this issue started today... Emby playback is dim via a web browser... so I started streaming the video directly from the server... within 30mins CPU usage will spike to 49% and hover there... and while I have a number of dockers... streaming a video directly from the server should be devoid of docker issues/lag... Im welcome for comments... but again... I will be replacing this server in around 3-5 days with a much better CPU/RAM config... my concern is that I was streaming a file from the server and the CPU spiked to 49% which caused a lag in the video playback... Im all ears!
  4. You might try looking for old DAS systems.... The one that I have is a 4u with 24 bays... perhaps it's not something you would be interested but thought that I would put that out there for you... I spent around $230 for the one I have
  5. Hello all, I recently got a Dell R430 that has the Intel Xeon E5-2609 v4 CPU installed on it. I found a pair of Intel Xeon Processor E5-2640 V4 for $25 each. A comparison the two CPUs here plus the 3rd CPU is my current system's CPU Intel® Xeon® CPU X5650. My question is this, would it be worthwhile to install these CPUs? My main motivation for updating to this server was so save on power and noise. One last question, there is currently only 1 stick of ram for each CPU in the system currently. What would be the best number of RAM sticks to have for this system? 1x16gb vs 2x8gb vs 4x2gb etc... How much of a difference is there if I kept it in it's current configuration? I am waiting on a PCIE bracket to arrive before I migrate off of my current setup. Funny thing is that I bought this server on ebay and the darn thing still has 10 months on it's warranty
  6. I would warn you on the temp of those drives! They will die a lot faster
  7. So this one statement is conflicting... you say that you havent "make any changes" yet you just setup nextcloud... and now nextcloud isnt working... Please consider marking this thread as solved and make a new post on the relevant forum/thread to your new issue...
  8. WOW... that's a load of plugins... I have been using unraid for 10y now... and I have only 2 plugins... something that I learned in the military is... KISS... Keep It Simple Stupid... Take things slowly and make measurable changes... just starting out and adding all of these changes will make it hard to figure out if something is wrong... IMO... remove the plugins and start from near stock... and then layer on the addons... this will make it simple to figure out what broke... Few here will want to troubleshoot a 100 changes in a short time frame... where as if you take your time to load the array and layer in the plugins, things will be easier to troubleshoot... Best of luck
  9. I have been using 8tb drives for a while now... no failures in the years I have been using them... even renewed ones... Just my 10 cents
  10. I had this problem this year... The way I figured it out was creating a new disk pool(2 ssd) and moving everything to that pool... this way dockers will run quickly but also have redundancy builtin... something to look into
  11. check network settings... perhaps you gateway IP has changed... you might try setting the server up via DHCP and making it's new IP static via your router
  12. I would backup your usb now... Kinda feels like it might be going bad... Have you been using this USB for a while?
  13. You might try accessing the webconsole via IP and using private/incognito mode... and also running the following command in CMD is a good idea 'ipconfig /flushdns'
  14. two things that I would suggest here... update the OS(folks here dont like troubleshooting outdated software) and post Diags... it's possible that the IP address has changed due to a new nic and DHCP providing a different IP... have you validated that you have the correct IP via the console(using an external monitor connected to the server)?
  15. You and I worked on an issue a few months back... and let me thank you for your continued support and efforts for the community... you are quick and responsive... Thank You My system is healthy... except for some lag when a docker prevents emby or the unraid interface to update/work... another issue for another time when im tired of it... Backups? no... irreplaceable... no... A few photos or what not... but nothing critical... I watch this system daily... It's my baby... I hope to preserve the media that I have collected for the future... I have been building this system for 12 years now and modified it many times... I have a feeling that my unraid UI is unique ATM(lack of features) vs screenshots of fresh builds... overall... I think adding the extra DAS is a good idea... balancing Cost to Risk... but again... if someone know of a better deal/idea I am all ears
  16. Do you think that jumping to 14tb drives now is worth the addl cost? Adding a disk shelf doesnt add much to the cost of the build... and having that added drive bays does make sense on a certain level...
  17. I have no disk warnings. Nothing to be concerned about on that end. The problem is that I can only add 2 HHD to the current setup before I am out of space. If I were to switch to 14tb drives, it would be easier now vs later, thus this post. Yes I am running dual parity tower-diagnostics-20221226-1725.zip
  18. Hello, I am trying to decide the next expansion of my setup... Currently I am running 17 HDDs in the Array, 2 disk pools and a spare HHD if one should fail. The majority of the disks are 8tb. The current DAS that I am using only has 2 spare slots left. My concerns are measuring cost and risk. Granted the more disks that you have, the more likely that one or more will fail. Replacing 114tb with newer(even used) drives with the cheapest drives that I can find(14tb for $148) would run $450 just to expand the array for the first time(to increase parity and replacing the 8tb drives would only increase array size by 6tb)... I have found another DAS that could be delivered for $250 and would allow me to continue to expand using 8tb drives($55 each) for a reasonable cost... I favor buying the additional DAS due to my experience with 8tb SAS drives. Before moving to these drives, I had numerous drive failures(2,3,5tb) and since running the 8tb drives, I havent had a single failure. What do you think? Do you have better ideas? Thank you for your time

  20. Another update has failed again... This time after partially downloading 2 files, setup stopped the containing and proceeded to 'successfully' update the container. Which it was not
  21. This is when updating from the docker page. I went ahead and updated the rest of my containers and there was no error except for tubearchivist-es and zoneminder(never used it thus far... doesnt even work as far as I know). They both completed normally but still show an update is ready. The container that I had issues with today was readarr tower-diagnostics-20221201-1117.zip
  22. Another example that happened a few days ago... After the failed update the container was 'orphaned' I had to go to the app store to reinstall the container. I have not attempted to update that one since
  23. Oh, one other thing that I noticed after each failed update is that the container ID will change
  24. After downloading(and failing to completely DL and extract), the update attempts to stop the container. After about 15 seconds, the text changes to error and continues to the next stop of removing the container.
