  1. Thanks for improving! Please document/comment the changes inside the script, raise the version number and then post it here. I'm far from being that experienced to tell if there are better ways of scripting - if it works it's OK. Maybe others, with the same use case, will want to test and comment on it?
  2. Hi tdallen, for the bandwidth issue: PCIe 1.0/1.1 (2003) PCIe 2.0/2.1 (2007) PCIe 3.0 (20012) PCIe 4.0 (~2015?) per lane 250 MB/s 500 MB/s 985 MB/s 1969 MB/s Nominal values incl. overhead... So going with a PCIe x1 2.0/2.1 and 4 drives is "on the edge" but still OK IMHO. If you studied the wiki you find the confirmed working cards. The list is of course not exhausting but you can check at least some cards. Sure, some of them are outdated but you may find them on ebay? The next hurdle you will find is that some models can be found only in some regions for reasonable prices. In Europe you will rarely find cheap Supermicros but you can often find DELL and IBM on ebay that people pull from their servers. Just make sure to get the pulled cards and don't buy them from china. They sell for about 50-70€ over here. If you plan to expand further you're probably best off with an 8-port card - check the price/port.
  3. Hi, I doubt you will be successful with drivers only - if you get somebody to integrate them into unRAID at all. The only drivers that are (perhaps) available are hacks that allow to pass through the drives. The RAID software is always more or less interfering and causing issues when passing the drives through. If you have a source that confirmed you can flash the card to IT mode, then do it. Maybe you post that source? If you can't flash to IT mode, then better sell it on ebay and get yourself a confirmed working HBA for the money.
  4. OK, i went to your linked post and it seems the flash to 9240 was one of the first trials to get the M1015 working in unRAID. Some posts later you went with the 9210 fw and somehow the story ends on the 9211 fw for this cards. That is what everybody uses nowadays. I have a clear picture now. I studied the recent portfolio of LSI and they mostly have (at least) two versions of their cards. One with the vertical connectors and the other one with the horizontal connector. Can't say if you really can distinguish something like that just by looking at the picture/layout...
  5. Interesting findings about the 9240 firmware! I didn't see any information to this around here as far as i remember. Where did you get that info from - unfortunately I haven't found a naming convention for LSI cards... Did yo flash your M1015 to the LSI 9240 IT or IR mode? Could be the case, just as the Fujitsu D2607 which is not fully functional after a crossflash!
  6. OK, last chance with the LSI_Util. I'm sorry I can't assist you with this one, I've never used it. See if there is a help included, if not, search the web for an instruction. I would suggest you try to flash the latest LSI P19. Again, good luck!
  7. Yea, I probably read every thread about the Rebel12. I intend to use the CFP-52B caddies since they're available and affordable here. But they require some extra modding to fit and I'm still working on a solution. My quality concerns are about the material, stiffness and manufacture. But it's still better than nothing. Cooling should be no problem with that case. It has as many holes as a swiss cheese.
  8. I also flashed one more Dell Perc H310 to IT (P19) last night without any problems! Updated the toolset.
  9. Have been thinking of this while I was showering this morning... I remember exactly the same issues when flashing the FSC D2607. User reddi was successful in flashing it with a little trick. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12767.msg266471#msg266471 Here is the H200 sbr. In the H310 toolset, it is the step where you delete the ROM (step 2 or 3). Replace and rename the sbr with the H200 or edit the batch file and set the H200 filename. Then go through the whole procedure! Dell IT --> LSI P7 --> LSI P16 (or P19, I uploaded an update) As a last resort I have another flash utility from a guy that also managed to flash the D2607. I can post that too if don't succeed with reddis method. Good luck!
  10. I don't want to hijack this post but I was browsing through the new posts yesterday when I found this thread...I have to add my 2ct. My first build is based on the same enclosure like the unRUBE. In Europe the enclosure is called Chieftec CS-600. My main PC is in this type of enclosure and when a fried of mine retired his, I suddenly had a second one. It's a nice and rock solid case, easy to access for maintenance. With my little mod it can hold 15 hard disks. I have an idea how to push it to 17 drives... Now that I have gathered some experience with this case, I can tell about the cons: - it is pretty crowded - the two lower trays are cooled with a 80x80x10 fan hidden behind the front cover panel. But there is no room to fit one for the upper tray so those drives have no cooling. By default there is a clip that can hold a fan inside the tray but that will push the drives further into the case. Then it won't be possible to remove the tray without pulling the controller cards. - removing drives/trays is a PITA. Chances are high that something gets loose when doing so. - the 3in2 enclosures are too tight. Cooling at a reasonable noise level is a problem. While I could handle the temperature problems, maintainability is getting a bigger issue. I don't like the idea of ripping apart the whole rig to switch a drive. Chances are high to cause another disturbance and jeopardize the recovery procedure. At the moment I'm preparing a Rebel12 that could handle 22 drives. Unfortunately the quality of this enclosure is far, far away from the chieftec.
  11. Come on guys, if it tells you "Mfg Page 2 mismatch" your tool is running fine and your floppy or thumbdrive OS is also OK. Just an idea - you could try the detour via the Dell IT firmware (for an H310). If I remember correctly, there is the same error if you want to flash the H310 straight with the LSI9211IT firmware. But you can circumvent that if you flash the DELL IT firmware first. After that you can flash the LSI firmware. Maybe this helps for your problem? EDIT: Just read your post... Maybe you try the LSI P7 from the package I linked above! There you have to possibility to override the vendor mismatch. The later versions of sas2flash don't do that anymore!
  12. Thanks, apparently it is a plain HBA (IT) with the SAS2008 chipset. http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/04/campaigns/dell-raid-controllers I'm pretty sure it will work but it has not yet been tested/confirmed! I also had a look at those external cards but I found the cables add to much to the overall cost and it's more reasonable to stay with the internal solutions. You might want to run the numbers for your case! If you go with this card, please report back with your findings for our database. Tell us if SMART, temps, spindown works as well. Good luck!
  13. Forget TRIM. Lets say, in worst case you might have only 50% of the SSD performance (which is very pessimistic), then you still have what? About 200 MB/s? I doubt your LAN can deliver that. Is your throughput to the protected share the same as to the SSD at the moment?
  14. Is there a link to your problem in this thread? http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=31113.msg320019;topicseen#msg320019
  15. May I ask why you are messing with those low capacity SAS drives? Why don't you get some fancy drives instead? Although I don't know if your 3ware dino will support those big drives...
  16. Have you tried to reset (powercycle) your network equipment (routers and switches)?
  17. Sorry, but can you post the name or a link to the dell website so we know what you are talking about?
  18. I don't use dynamix but I suppose you will have to edit the sleep-script and configure it to your needs in order to automatically sleep.
  19. Maybe kinda offtopic but what's the point in using unRAID without having a parity disk?
  20. From here it seems a 1068 firmware will work but it is known that the 1068 won't support drives >2.2TB. Check here for known good add-on cards.
  21. Check the wiki. Is the 640 the same as the 640L?
  22. Did you check the alternatives? You will most likely have to crossflash the card but I can't tell you if it will work. I know that the D2607 from FSC is not fully functional after a crossflash. Maybe it's a bad habit of FSC to cripple cards like that? If you want to take the risk to try it out, please come back and report your findings with that card (although it's obsolete and almost nobody will want one in their unRAID nowadays). Good luck!
