  1. Do you guys use cooling for those controllers? In the specs they (LSI, DELL) mention a certain air flow rate. I suppose in a rack server you have those conditions but in a common tower build it is mostly not the case.
  2. Yes, that is the most recent discussion on "parity swap disable" I'm aware of. The key is to cause a drive/slot to show up red balled. Then the option to perform the drive swap will show up. Assign old parity --> new data & new drive --> new parity. As I understand you have the old data drive that is still working as a backup. Basically nothing to loose if it goes wrong.
  3. More specific (perhaps I didn't understand well) A GUI to set up server and client for rsync backups.
  4. I could include that card in the wiki, when it's editable again, if you provide some more information. - find out what chipset is on that card (written on it or shown during POST) - are temps and SMART values shown in unRAID - is spindown working properly
  5. See my sig for an available script that does what you expect.
  6. In my case this was a major benefit for the use of unRAID. I had a RAID5 array when I decided to go with unRAID. If I would loose 2 drives it would still be better than loosing the whole array. Time has passed and I'm on my way to start a backup server with unRAID. I'm no more worried about multiple drive failures than bitrot & silent corruption since that would also destroy my backup (mirror). Which FS is best in this case? P.S. I would still want to conserve the "independently mountable drive" option.
  7. It's 8.85 incl. shipping and a Amazon return possibility - I doubt you will find something else that is cheaper to get.
  8. Well, the naming S3 is probably confusing because in that script you can select the option to shutdown instead of S3 sleep! Take your time, I don't know exactly when I finish to set up my backup rig.
  9. Makes sense, although it's quite annoying if you get a red ball due to cabling issues. Occasionally I carry my server to friends to LAN parties. Would be a pretty showstopper if I had a red ball due to a loose cable. I will disable the autostart next time before transport and convince myself that all drives are available before I start the array again.
  10. Here is our hardware list. The first card on ebay is SiI3132. See the note regarding this chipset in the wiki. I would give the Amazon card a chance. If it's not working you can easily return it.
  11. Ah, I see. The TP-Link seems cheaper though. Any experience considering this questions: Is it sufficient just to connect the unRAID NICs to the LACP switch or is it necessary to have all switches and routers in my LAN with LACP capability?
  12. I'm sorry but multiple posts won't help you out!
  13. I'm not sure if I get it right, but... Now, that the drive seems running again, why not assign it as disk9 and check if your array gets up again? Edit: Q: For my understanding - once a drive gets red balled, will it change it's status when the problem is resolved or is a rebuild inevitable?
  14. I would also like to play with LACP - it uses the IEEE 802.3ad protocol. Couldn't find this mentioned for the unmanaged GS108 switches you recommend. I already own a TP-Link TL-SG108E which looks very similar to the Netgear. 802.3ad is also not mentioned there. Edit: Found it! Not the protocol is mentioned but "Link Aggregation" in L2 features - cool! Is it sufficient just to connect the unRAID NICs to the LACP switch or is it necessary to have all switches and routers in my LAN with LACP capability?

    Turbo Write

This option would perfectly fit in some kind of "unRAID Control Panel" utility for windows. I'm thinking of a small app/widget running in background having all the unRAID stuff onboard. I had a Qnap that had this kind of utility... Toggling the "turbo mode" would be best in terms of workflow when integrated in the windows explorer context menu (right click).
  16. Or use the auto_s3_sleep script on your backup machine to power down when it is idling. This will work even if the GUI has gone unresponsive. Would you mind sharing your rsync config/setup files?
  17. Ah, OK. I missed that one. I just saw all those threads popping up in the "unread since last visit".

    Turbo Write

At least for the "massive copying case" I could imagine that unRAID toggles the mode on its own. Since it has to know where to allocate data on the share (high water, etc.), I suppose it knows how big the incoming amount of data is. Then why not set a threshold (adjustable) for the incoming data where the turbo-mode is automagically set?
  19. This is probably a silly question, but what is the intention of those threads?
