  1. Installing and setting up a couple of servers for a customer and came across a bug/issue on one of them. The log is attached where this is happening but the steps for me to reproduce on this machine is: 1) Start the machine 2) Change cache drive number to 2 3) Assign 2 960GB SSD to the cache positions 4) Start the array and it errors This ends up hanging the web interface and I was able to get in via telnet and get the log. If you need any other information let me know! EDIT: OK, so it appears this happens on both machines if you only assign cache drive(s). Might want to take a look into that guys as I was hoping to assign some cache drives and get some apps and VM's set up without having any other drives currently assigned (They are - all 16 of them - are currently being precleared) log.txt
  2. You sir are a freaking god send. I have been playing with this for the better part of 2 days (on and off while not doing real work) and my google fu was failing me. This needs to be in the docs somewhere as the OP and myself can't be the only ones that have run into this. Thanks again!!!
  3. I am having the same problem. I have an Supermicro C7X99 with an Intel Xeon E5 in it and I get the "loading files" then the "Starting Windows" and it just hangs there with the logo pulsing. Really trying to get this working so if anyone has any input that would be greatly appreciated!!
  4. You can't, except for buying a license. it just does not have the newest updates to packages, the linux kernel, and that sort of stuff.
  5. i run Openelec on a standalone HTPC box. It works a treat but the one thing I had to do was go into the Openelec settings and set it to wait on starting kodi until the network was up. The box and kodi was starting up so fast that the network had not grabbed a DHCP address quick enough and the connection to the mysql database would almost always fail.
  6. truth (and hence the reason my main/production server is still running something like 5.0rc16)...
  7. If you have any questions don't hesitate to use the contact link on the website.
  8. I can not speak for Limetech but I talk to Tom and the guys every so often. Last I talked to them was about 2 weeks ago and there was no ETA on their server builds. On that note, and maybe a shameless plug, if you are looking for something I also build servers. Just follow the link in my sig to see what we have as "standard" builds. If you want something a little more custom or have any questions just drop us a line via the contact us on the website.
  9. I wants me a RAID0 cache pool setup ability in the unRAID web GUI... please and thank you
  10. My current ESXi server is running an Areca 1222 in RAID 5. That is on ESXi 4.1 if I remember correctly. I am slowly building myself a new server running ESXi 5.5 (probably go to 6.0) with a RAID 10 of 4x2TB drives.
  11. Pretty much. I have built servers for a number of customers that had the technical know-how but just wanted the piece of mind of having everything tested before hand and getting a server that was built and ready to role.
  12. You forgot the cost of the USB drive, cables and odd extras needed to connect everything. Not to mention shipping the thing is not cheap.
  13. Try 5.5 and see what happens
  14. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that the flash drive is not labeled unRAID. It may also be that the flash drive is a little "wonky" (<- technical term there). Try a couple other flash drives, even if they are to just testing the boot.
  15. This is not Seagates fault, I just want to point that out. I prefer Hitachi drives but I have a mix and match of drives in my server. I have a couple Seagate 6TB drives that run beautifully. I also have a couple of there SSHD drives as datastore drives in my ESXi server.
  16. I think it is but I have always been a fan of throwing as much RAM at a machine as you can afford. The current build I run has 12GB but the new one I am build is maxed out at 32GB. The more RAM the better!!
  17. 15-20 might be a little much, especially if all those stream are coming off the same hard drive. Are these compress rips, tv shows, music, etc ? If they are bluray I think the limit was something like 4 streams from one drive and then stuff started to buffer and lag. At 20 streams your 1GB NIC will likely hits it throughput limit also. Going to need a little more info on what you are trying to do. 20 streams of small music files should not be a problem, larger and higher bitrate stuff might/probably will be.

Yes, that can be done and i guess it will work. Most everything I have read on setting up pfsense or the like recommends passing through a separate NIC just for it. I guess it is not necessary, but is advised.

But I still don't see how it is going to work. You will need to pass a NIC through to the pfsense VM and if the board and CPU does not support VT-d then your boned. I may be missing something or overlooking something but the Celeron/i3/i5 you have talked about do not support VT-d. Spend the money up front and be happy for the forseeable future. My main ESXi box that I run is Intel 775 based and runs like a top. I am only now building a new one as I want more than10GB of RAM in the machine as I want to add more than the 4 VM's I have running. I figure this new ESXi box (Supermicro X9SCM-iiF, E3-1230, 32GB of RAM) should last me a good long time, and I should be able to expand this one more than what I can with my current ESXi box.

Does the i3 even support VT-d? When going ESXi, you do not want to go low end hardware wise. Spend the money up front and build a system that will not need upgraded, expect for maybe RAM, for the next3+ years at least. When I build ESXi machines for customers I usually suggest an intel Xeon E3-1230 or better, 16GB of RAM or more, and a motherboard that has as many PCI-e slots as possible. I almost always use the Supermicro X9SCM-iiF with a single M1015 card going into a Intel Expander.
  21. I still prefer the X9SCM-iiF I want as many PCIe slots as I can get and the X10 series seems to skimp on those for some reason. Annoys me to no end.
  22. Just call them up and explain. With as many Norco cases as I have used I rarely find an issue with them. When I do it is an easy process of calling/emailing them and they send a replacement part out right away.
  23. For my personal use I go with 2 in from the M1015 and 4 out to the backplanes in my Norco 4020. I use the bottom 4 rows for unRAID and the top for are the ESXi datastore. For a Norco 4224 I have done 1 in and 5 out and then the second M1015 port for the last backplane. I saw very little difference in speed. This left the motherboard ports free for ESXi datastore drives.
  24. I have always had good luck with there support. Had a couple motherboards that had bad RAM slots or something or another. Always been quick to get the issue resolved.
