  1. what is so amazing? I am still running 5.0 Beta 13 (NOTE: BETA) and have been running for 2 years straight. no issues what so ever My friend is the same as you. "I only need 3TB support, it's working fine, I have no reason to upgrade past this beta version...". He the guy who never upgrades any of his programs if he's not having issues, "if it's not broke don't fix it". Well 5.0 final came out, I upgrade both my servers from RC15. No issues whatsoever, headache free, took 5 minutes for 2 servers. He upgrades from his older version, and I end up on the phone with him for no less than 6 hours troubleshooting the upgrade. What was the problem? Well it seems the Sabnzbd plugin, for whatever reason, didn't like one of the many changes and kept hanging his entire array. However, I use the exact same Sabnzbd version and had no problems with the upgrade. You have a much larger chance of having issues when upgrading from a very old beta build, than you do just upgrading when new builds come out. Actually, your post just shows that you have a much larger chance of having issues when upgrading and plugins are involved. The issue had nothing to do with the fact that your friend was running an older build.. despite the fact that your upgrade from a newer build with the same plugin went ok. Had he removed all plugins prior to upgrading, he could have been up and running in < 5 minutes. :-) Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  2. Congratulations Tom. Now go take a vacation, you've earned it. Also, hats off for keeping your cool and acting like a professional, despite some of the comments of late. The majority of us understand you work your butt off and shouldn't have to babysit the forum. Take care mate, look forward to running 5.0 on my new box in the next few weeks (hopefully) and I'll be sure to pick up another license. Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  3. There is also the Node 304. No trayless racks but small form factor: http://www.fractal-design.com/?view=product∏=94 Looking at building another unRAID box in the next few weeks, will probably be in this case.
  4. Hey I might be interested in the not too distant future. Looking to have something setup over the next few weeks. Are you interested in selling parts separately by any chance? Do you have any photos and can you ship to Vancouver or only the US? I might consider arranging a forwarding address if need be.
  5. Count me in. Once I get around to installing an IRC client.. Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  6. These "paying customer" comments get brought up every now and then and I find it interesting that people feel the need to flame/whinge/complain like you haven't got an awesome product for the amount of money you spent. Free or $70-$120 for a LIFETIME license is pennies for what unRAID delivers on a daily basis. At the end of the day is renaming rc16c to final really going to change anything? No. The product stays the same. I understand that RC as a label has an impact on impression from a commercial point of view (people who re-sell/manage unRAID servers for customers) and feature creep is definitely frustrating but for the majority of users it isn't going to make any difference to the end result when 5.0 goes "live." 7. Hey Tom, I'm sure it's been asked a thousand times but do you plan to include this plugin manager in 5.0 or are you just "testing the water" at this stage? It really feels like it will be more than a minor addition and really should wait until 5.1 or even 5.2. I'd hate to see all of the work that has gone into v5 so far get spoiled by a half baked addition which is very likely to cause more problems than it fixes. Love your work mate but let's kick v5 out the door without the plugin manager and do it right rather than fast. Cheers ;-)
  8. I love fractal cases but the drive access in those is a little bit of a pain.. though once it is setup it's not a big deal. I was considering an Array R2 as my mate built his unRAID server in one but they use an SFX PSU and seem to be EOL. As for that CPU, it's way over my budget at the moment.. I really can't afford to spend more than about $100 on the CPU and @ $270+ it's just too expensive. I have a 2.5" 320GB drive that I got for free so was thinking of using that for datastore, otherwise I might have to shell out for a small budget SSD.
  9. Hey kids, great thread. Just read it from start to finish.. About six months ago I moved to Canada and left my unRAID box back in Aus, now I'm thinking it might be worth building another one but I'm on a budget, which is how I ended up here. It's hard to know when to quit I tell you, unRAID is like a drug.. I started looking at getting another external hard drive, then a small NAS, then a larger NAS, then pricing up building a small unRAID server and now I'm thinking of building a mITX unRAID server + ESXi though I hadn't taken into consideration the cost of a controller card for ESXi. I don't even know if this is possible (AMD mITX unRAID + ESXi), letalone with my budget Obviously AMD is great for saving pennies, was hoping to spend < $500 excluding drives.. Has anyone had any luck running ESXi (or unRAID + ESXi) on a mITX board? mITX AMD boards seem to be pretty rare as is. 10. Could someone post screenshots of this? Sounds good!
  11. Are you in the US or Canada? I'm living in Canada but originally from AU and was thinking of trying newegg.ca but I hear http://ncix.com/ is supposed to be good (if you are in CA). Haven't bought from either yet although I did get my LG TV from Dell
  12. Hey Switchblade, Your question probably won't get answered in this thread as it doesn't seem to be an issue specific to this RC. The thread mentioned earlier regarding SMB issues is below. Try posting your speeds there and see if you have more luck.
  13. Probably best to post this issue in the support forum.
  14. Don't forget to take a heap of business cards with you to hand out to all the hula girls..
  15. I think what Tom means is, could you list how to reproduce this error? It will allow other users to try the same thing and see if it is specific to certain hardware/config & help with diagnosing the cause/hopefully a fix.
  16. Indeed. Should we expect an rc7 soon or will we likely go straight from -test2 to final? I vote for one more (hopefully) RC and we can take it home with a simple rename for final.
  17. ... with a touch screen? Who needs touch when you have a projector? But if you want both.. Looks like it is a table though: http://www.microsoft.com/global/en-us/news/publishingimages/Samsung_SUR40_for_Microsoft_Surface_Web.jpg
  18. lol, I didn't even look at the size. For that price i'd go for a projector though, 40" for $7k is a lot even if it is touch.
  19. Wow, reckon that was supposed to be $791? Seems more accurate. That thing is like $7k too expensive for the specs :-/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. You might be able to mount a ~120mm exhaust fan on the side panel itself. Would give you a lot more options for choice of replacement fan, likely be a lot quieter than those style fans though side panel fans do tend to reverberate the panel a little so traditionally they are noticably noisier than the rear fans. I think it would still be a worthwhile replacement though, provided you don't mind getting the dremel out and drilling a few holes.
  21. You should be right to roll back the same way you upgraded. Replace bzimage/bzroot and reboot. Reassign your disks and if everything is green perform a parity check. Alternatively you could try rc6-test2 as this appears to be the best "all-round" release candidate at the moment.
  22. I don't have a lot of photos on my unRAID server but I do have a LOT of wallpapers, I've found the best way to sort those is by resolution: Wallpapers -- 800x600 -- 1024x768 -- 1280x720 -- 1280x1024 -- 1680x1050 -- 1920x1080 -- Obscure & Larger .. etc.
  23. So out of 7 drives that have been purchased in this thread we have 1 DOA, correct? I haven't included the second drive that @Pauven reported died as it was under dirty circumstances (power failure during preclear). Even if the preclear likely finished it's hard to say whether the drive was at fault here. I've never blamed a drive for being at fault when there's an environmental issue involved, you can't really- unless the UPS forced a clean shutdown. Still, unfortunate to hear that @Pauven lost two drives
  24. Indeed it seems you do not have much luck with WD drives. Perhaps it is something to do with the way they are handled in your area? A lot of users on this forum have them and AFAIK the general consensus is the drives work quite well (in general). Just finished building a new unRAID box for my mate about a week ago and he has a mix of drives, including a 3TB WD Red as parity. Speeds are fantastic so I guess only time will tell if the drives don't last.
  25. Just a quick note on the topic of standalone players & them forcing you to upgrade to support new codecs etc. The WDTV Live's I have work great if you don't want all the cover art/thumbs etc. They seem to do regular f/w updates which include support for different codecs as they are released as well as minor bug fixes or improvements. Personally I have converted from this to XBMC/Openelec + mySQL on unRAID hosting the thumbs, coverart etc. Keeps all the HTPCs in sync and gives me the pretty thumbs. The XBMC laptop that is in our bedroom is controlled with the iPad app XBMoteC which lets you view your entire library; including thumbs and synopsis, select anything to play while xbmc is sitting on the main menu & doubles as a remote control if you feel like browsing with the XBMC UI. Works a treat The only thing I want to add is a standalone remote control as the XBMoteC remote control function isn't overly great. On that note... How do you do this? Universal remote or factory TV remote?
