  3. Looks like Micro Center has these for $129.99 right now in-store only, limit one. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.aspx?sku=221036
  4. I'm still on 4.7 with a maxed out Plus license (six 2TB drives). Lately I've been giving serious thought to upgrading to 5.0 for the same reasons you're talking about, although I do have a spare 2TB drive right now in case of an emergency. My plan is to test 5.0 for a bit while looking for a deal on a 3TB WD Red drive. I'll swap that in as parity and get a pro license so I can add the two 2TB back in as data drives.

  6. The way I understood Tom's post is the two-pack must be sold/transferred as a two-pack. In this case, the OP could sell or transfer the third key/license separately, but he'd have to make sure it was the one that was originally purchased as a single.
  7. Do those prices include shipping? If not, might be a good idea to state where you'd be shipping from.
  8. Good to know, I was planning on using the script, but didn't know it might need modified. What's the purpose of the script?
  9. Thanks UhClem and dave_m, I just ordered one of these for my new HP N40L MicroServer once I saw the low-profile bracket and placement of the SATA connectors. If it doesn't work with unRAID, I can always use it in one of my desktops. @BobPhoenix, I'm still looking for a bracket to mount drives 5 & 6, which one are you using?
  10. I think you'll need to use plenum cable if you plan to run the wiring in-wall. Pretty sure that's required to meet the fire code.
  11. dikkiedirk, Have a look at the XBMC ATV1 FAQ; I think it'll answer some of your questions. http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Apple_TV_1_FAQ Check out the OS comparison. Switching to Linux (CrystalBuntu or OpenELEC) will enable 1080p output via HDMI. Keeping the Apple OS on it will limit you to 720p output, which can only get to 1080p thru up-scaling. The way I understand it, this would occur even with the CrystalHD card. Yes, you should set the HDMI setting to RGB High before installing OpenELEC. If you don't do it, you'll just notice that the screen will have a pink tint to it during boot up, but it goes away once the ATV is booted into XBMC.
  12. You're probably right. I didn't need the T8 at all this last time because it turns out that I already had the BCM970012 in it. I've opened mine up so many times over the past few years. I just cut access holes for the screws in the rubber bottom instead of peeling it off all the time. I never got around to trying CB (I have other media players, so it was never a priority to get my ATV running XBMC), so I can't really compare. I just know it runs WAY better than modding the original ATV OS to run XBMC on top. I would think, though, that OpenELEC should run a bit better since it is stripped down and they offer a verison optimized for the ATV1. I think I may be experiencing issues with a faulty BCM970012. I bought it a few years ago off eBay and I've always been leery about it since I couldn't get my setup to perform as well as others claimed, like this guy for example: http://www.johnlarge.co.uk/2012/10/11/apple-tv-1-crystalbuntu-openelec/ Before I always thought I messed up the install of the driver for the BCM970012 and that was causing my problems, but now with OpenELEC I know the driver is installed. I played an ATSC TV capture (MPEG-2 and AC3 in a MPG container) with hardware acceleration on and off. With it on, I was seeing extremely choppy playback that resembled a network bottleneck, but when it played back perfectly smooth with hardware acceleration off, I knew something was up with my BCM970012. For the record, this was a 720p file, hence the reason the ATV was able to play it smooth with hardware acceleration off. I have a new BCM970015 on its way from Logic Supply. I'll post my updated findings once I have time to play around with the new card installed. If I were you, I'd wait to see what you think of the performance running from the stock internal hard drive. I can't imagine a SSD being THAT much better to justify the cost, especially considering it's still running through a PATA connection.
  13. Here's the link to the card on Logic Supply's website: http://www.logicsupply.com/products/bcm970015 Use code "XBMC10" to save $10 during checkout. I just ordered one to replace my BCM970012, which will go to a co-worker. You only need a Torx T10 to open the ATV1, a T8 is only necessary if you want to swap the internal hard drive. I loaded OpenELEC 2.0 on mine. I've never seen XBMC run so efficiently on my ATV1. Unfortunately, it still struggles a bit with MKV Blu-ray rips streamed from my unRAID server. I've read that it could be a limitation of the Realtek 10/100 network card. I'm going to try the same file from a USB hard drive to see if it plays any better that way. http://xbmc.org/natethomas/2012/10/18/openelec-2-0-now-available-now-with-pvr-support/
  14. According to the description and the reviews, this comes with 2GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive.
  15. I'm planning to add a cache disk to my 4.7 Plus system. Does a cache disk get added like a data disk does, taking the array down while it's added in? Should I preclear the drive before adding it as a cache disk to avoid downtime? I searched the forum and Wiki, but I couldn't find a clear answer.
  16. I may be interested, but I have some questions. Will these work with 4.7 or only with 5.0? Are there any known issues with these and unRAID? I've heard various grumblings of cards like this not reporting temps and/or having issue with spinning down disks; are those still issues?
  17. Thanks, got one, not for unRAID, though. Gonna see what all the SSD hype is about.
  18. I already placed my order. Hopefully they'll have stock to fulfill it. A few posters on SlickDeals claim that it will run with non-ECC memory. I have 2x2GB non-ECC sticks that I can throw in there to test once I get it. Still not sure if the Ceton card will fit. If not, I'll have to find another purpose for this or try to sell it. Thanks for the post!
  19. I was able to add it to my cart and start the checkout process. I didn't complete my order because I'm not sure if I'll have a use for this. Anyone know if this unit can accomodate a Ceton InfiniTV 4 PCIe tuner card? Also, will it accept non-ECC memory?
  20. According to Newegg's description, you can convert the six 3.5" bays into 5.25" bays for a total of nine 5.25" bays.
  21. C3, I'm in the Detroit area. The guy is the brother of one of my co-workers. I don't even know his name. Weebo, thread title changed.
  22. Thanks for all of the replies. We found a matching drive on eBay and managed to recover the data from the original drive! FYI: simply swapping the logic boards did not work initially, we also had to swap one of the chips on the original logic board to the replacement board. Lucky for us, we found someone with some mad soldering skills who did that part for $10.
