  1. I finally figured out how to install Windows 7 using ovmf. Machine type i440fx. Add both VNC/Qxl and the passed through video card. Install Windows 7 using VNC. Install the drivers for the video card. Reboot. Shutdown the vm and remove VNC/Qxl. (There are a lot of recommendations to use Cirrus for Windows 7, but that only works for seabios.) I switched back and forth a couple of times between the new Windows 7 vm using ovmf and my Windows 10 vm without any more lockups. I'll report back after giving it some time to see if that does indeed fix my issue.
  2. I've also tried enabling pcie acs override and upgrading to Unraid 6.4.0-rc10b. No luck.
  3. So just switching some cards to different pcie slots might fix this? It just seems odd that this wasn't happening before and I didn't make any changes to the hardware.
  4. irq 16: nobody cared found on your server I just saw this start popping up in Fix Common Problems. I have not made any recent hardware changes. I have been having some issues with vm's locking up my unraid server (which I posted a topic about in the kvm section of the forum and may or may not having anything to do with irq16 nobody cared). What do I do now? turtle-diagnostics-20171111-1005.zip
  5. It seems there have been a few other people that have had this issue, but I have not come across any fixes yet. I did see something mentioned about using the Tips and Tweaks plugin and setting vm.dirty_background_ratio to 1 and vm.dirty_ratio to 2. I did that and I booted into the Windows 7 vm and then stopped it and booted into the Windows 10 vm and then stopped it. The server did not lockup. I also now have "irq 16: nobody cared found on your server" showing up in Fix Common Problems. I saw this once when I plugged in a mouse and keyboard to tail the syslog, but it disappeared after I rebooted. It then showed up again over night and now there's a bunch of them. I'm thinking I should start a new topic in General Support for that.
  6. I tried to tail the syslog and took a picture, but that is the same thing that was onscreen after I shutdown the Windows 7 VM. Nothing new when I started the Windows 10 VM that locked up Unraid. I'll attach anyways. It seems to be consistent that if I start Windows 7 and then go to Windows 10 that it locks everything up. I believe I have gone from Windows 10 to Windows 7 without that happening. I can't recall if I have tried just reloading the same VM.
  7. I've been running a Windows 10 VM as my daily driver for over a year now. I recently made some changes to my network and my Unraid server was moved to a closet (I've been monitoring and heat is not an issue). I now have another PC setup as my daily driver and I had my Windows 10 VM now hooked up directly to a tv. This was when I noticed the first problem, which was that the sound over HDMI was flaky. After doing research, it appeared that using ovmf instead of seabios should fix the issue (it did). This is where I started to make actual changes. I created a new Windows 10 using ovmf and after that is when I started noticing some issues. I noticed that I couldn't change the number of cores a VM was using. If I did, the VM would not work. (I know I am missing details on this, but I didn't think it was going to be a big deal at the time so I didn't take notes. I may have noticed it before creating the new VM.) After getting the new Windows 10 VM going, I decided to try a Windows 7 VM. I wanted to use the same video card and USB card as the Windows 10 VM (they would not be run at the same time) and because of the issues with HDMI sound I first tried to use ovmf. That was not working. Tried using just one core, starting by just using VNC instead of the video card, used Cirrus instead of QXL. Nothing was working, so I switched to seabios. I was finally able to get Windows 7 installed. I believe this was when the lockups first started to happen. Windows 7 would install updates and reboot and then lockup my entire Unraid server. Then I had a lockup when starting the Windows 10 VM just after rebooting Unraid. Sometimes it happens when stopping one VM and starting the other. I haven't played with it much, but I do not think my windows XP VM that uses VNC has had any problems. Sometimes when Unraid comes back up VMs will be disabled. I also had an issue where the VMs would not start, I would get an error message (Unable to power on device stuck in D3). I think i ended up deleting libvirt.img at one point (I'm not sure why I did that). After that is when I think I was able to add or subtract cores properly again. That may have also been when the Unable to power on device message stopped happening. Another problem I noticed was that Windows 7 didn't seem to always see the USB card I was passing through (Windows 10 had no issues with it). I fixed this by changing from using pci-stub to vfio-pci in the syslinux config file. The card is a Fresco Logic FL1100. I do see this in the VM log (both for Windows 7 and Windows 10) that is referring to the USB card "2017-11-10T14:28:12.423626Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=05:00.0,id=hostdev2,bus=pci.0,addr=0x8: Failed to mmap 0000:05:00.0 BAR 2. Performance may be slow". I am attaching the diagnostics from just after I shutdown the Windows 7 VM. I then attempted to launch the Windows 10 VM and Unraid locked up. I am at a loss as to what could be wrong and what to do next. turtle-diagnostics-20171110-0958.zip
  8. I know, but that's not really useful for me. One problem I have with many of the options out there is how they make you have to drill down through so many menus to finally get to the view you want. Trying to browse collections in Plex falls into that category. The other problem I have with it is that I like to just scroll through my movie library, but at the same time, I do like things to be grouped together. As an example, the Bourne movies. Sure, the first 4 will be right next to each other, but the 5th one is named Jason Bourne, so it's off on it's own now.
  9. There is a setting to use collection info from the moviedb, I think, that makes it automatic. Had to rebuild my movie info for it to be used, though. The one problem I have with collections in Plex is that it doesn't group movies into collections as I am scrolling through all of my movies.
  10. You can use either Plex or Emby and I believe that Kodi has a plugin for each of them. Might be a bit of overkill, but it works.
  11. I was thinking the same thing. I didn't notice that it was doing syntax coloring. That's pretty cool.
  12. Some know this one already, but you can tag someone in a post so that they know to check it out (if they have the "Someone mentions me in a post" notification turned on anyways). Type the @ symbol and start typing their name and a list should come up as you type. Such as @jonp.
  13. What browser? Any noscript plugins running? Have you tried clearing your browser's cache?
  14. Should I be seeing this in the upper left corner at the very top of the page?
  15. In the upper right corner of the page, click on your name and then Profile. There should be a list of the latest topics you've posted in. (I think you can also get there by clicking on your name next to a post you've made.) Edit: Looks like you can also go to Activity and under My Activity Streams you can choose Content I Started or Content I Posted In.
  16. For those that want a tighter line spacing for their sigs, you can use shift+enter instead of just enter for new lines.
  17. If you go to the Shares page you'll see it's divided into 2 sections. At the top is the User shares. Those shares can span multiple disks. At the bottom is the disk shares and are just the individual disks as shares (disk1, disk2, etc).
  18. Were you moving the files between a user share and a disk share? There's a problem with that. never move from a user share to a disk share or from a disk share to a user share. Disk share to disk share or user share to user share is fine.
  19. I wouldn't say that. A good example is in the video about using a cache share for a Steam Library. That needs to be cache only. That way you have games stored for long term on the array, but active games being stored on the cache drive.
  20. Thanks. That's what I was thinking, but I've read some opinions where people were saying that it absolutely should be Cat6a. Just made me a little nervous and once I get these ran, I'd rather not have to do it again.
  21. At my last house I wired everything Cat6 and it was so nice to have a wired network everywhere all going to a central location. Since I moved to the new house a few months ago, I've been stuck on wireless and while wireless mostly works, I really want to get back to having everything wired. I have been debating on whether to go with Cat6 or Cat6a. Is there a compelling reason to get Cat6a over Cat6 when my longest run is around 55ft? Most runs are actually between 25ft and 40ft. For those distances, 10Gb should be possible with Cat6, right? Not that I am planning on 10Gb now, but I suppose it's possible in the future.
  22. I did not find enough info to give you an answer on that. Maybe because the motherboard has the capability to run legacy hardware while OVMF doesn't? I really don't know. I'd really love to get more info on this myself.
  23. I had this issue recently and the only thing I could come up with is something I read about the video card not being uefi compatible or something. (I can't remember where I read it.) My video card was an older GeForce GTX 660. Yesterday I swapped it for a brand new GTX 1070 and OVMF is working just fine now.
  24. Correct. But it is possible to back the VM up to parity protected array. If you are using 2 or more ssd's for cache in a cache pool and your VM's located on your cache, then yes, they will be protected. I think there have been people who have added an ssd to the array, but I don't think this is recommended. I haven't tried to move a VM yet, but I do believe it is possible to move it to a different share/drive. (Put it on a cache preferred share and then when you add a cache drive it should get moved to cache by Mover?) I think you are on the right track and I did something similar. Convert your current Windows 10 install to an image that is stored on the array. Create a VM using that image. Verify it works, though it will be very slow. Once it's working, then you can prepare the SSD and start using it as a cache drive. Make sure the VM share is moved to the cache drive and it should be good to go.
  25. It's an Inatek card, and yes, Windows 10 recognizes the speakers. Apparently they are working now. For some reason I had to manually adjust the volume and they just started working. I'm still wondering what's going on with xhci, though.
