    excuse the noob question but....

Am I able to assign a card to a docker container and a VM?  I don't mean simultaneously, but let's say plex is using it for transcoding then a VM takes it over when it starts.

Please read the support thread that I've linked a few posts above...

    The answer is no...

You can use one card for more than one container but only if the card is capable of that but not for a VM and Docker at the same time.

UPDATE:  I fixed it by re-installing the NVIDIA Driver.  I closed the window while it wasn't finished. It said to wait, but it was confusing because the line just before said the plugin finished download.

Will update the plugin and add a warning at the top to don't close the windows with the 'X' and wait for the 'Done' button.

@ich777, what we need is a tutorial with complete instructions and guidance as to how to use your new plugin with both Dockers and VM's.  It may well be that everything that one needs to know is in this thread but it is spread out over some five pages at present and that page count will likely increase daily for the next several days.  I would prefer that you also provide a PDF version as I (personally) prefer to have printed hard copy that I can mark up with my notes.

I will look into this and make a thrad/manual for that ASAP, give me a little time got home a few minutes ago. ;)

    Thread now live:

    'NVIDIA_VISIBLE_DEVICES'=' GPU-38ac4a82-0a7c-5e11-2f29-67386c69021c'

docker: Error response from daemon: OCI runtime create failed: container_linux.go:349: starting container process caused "process_linux.go:449: container init caused "process_linux.go:432: running prestart hook 0 caused \"error running hook: exit status 1, stdout: , stderr: nvidia-container-cli: device error: GPU-38ac4a82-0a7c-5e11-2f29-67386c69021c: unknown device\\n\""": unknown.

This lines tell you what's wrong, actually you have a \n (newline) infront of the UUID (looks like a space infont of the NVIDIA_VISIBLE_DEVICES).

I am a Chinese user, in the community communication can only use translation software to complete, so there are inaccurate places, please understand.

After the NVIDIA driver plug-in is installed, restart your raid. If it is still unavailable, enter cd /usr/lib64 && ls -al |grep "nvidia" to see if there is an NVIDIA related driver. If not, the installation is not successful.

It should be enough if you run the command 'nvidia-smi' from the unraid co sole since it will tell you if the command is found or not or if anything is missing.

But keepin mind @Scroopy Noopers told me that he had also problems with the other Nvidia plugin and could not get it to work. I'm currently in a private conversation with him and we try to solve this and will report back what was the issue.

So if the driver number isn't reporting and the device isn't bound to VFIO, does that mean something is up with the kernel, and if so, how do I fix it?

Can you send me a PM and we try to solve that instead of spaming this thread and post the solution. :)

can you send me a screenshot from the output of the command 'nvidia-smi'.

I got the update to beta 35, the nvidia-plugin installed, patch installed, but doesn't seem to be working in plex docker.

What have you done exactly and what does not work?

Install beta35, downloaded the Nvidia driver form the CA App, rebooted and/or restarte the docker service?

Can you send a screenshot from the Plugin itself?

I am a little confused, I am not seeing "Nvidia Drivers" in Community applications?  I am afraid to upgrade from beta 25 as I obviously now can not easily roll back without the Nvidia build plugin functioning anymore :(

You have to install the new beta first and then install the drivers from the CA App after that I recommend rebooting since the Docker service has to be restarted.

I have one question and one question only if I update to beta 35 is my Vm going to work again with my Nvidia 1050ti?

In my case the VM with Windows 10 and a Passthrough of a GTX1060 works flawlessly.

If you don't need the driver then don't install it, it's meant for acceleration in Docker containers.

Installed Beta 35 > rebooted > installed plugin > rebooted. I'm not seeing my Quadro P400 and it isn't listing my driver version. See below.

Are you sure the device is not bound to VFIO?

Can you give me the output of 'nvidia-smi'?

EDIT: Also it seems something goes wrong at installing the driver at least it sould display the version number...

EDIT2: It should look something like this:

It's 2020, usb drives are cheap, we have high speed internet, I'd take ease of use every day of the week.

As I said I'm using a 1GB SLC based flash drive and those are really not cheap, sure the 1GB drive isn't available anymore but it is rock solid and very durable since it's SLC.

Is there a special step needed for HW transcoding in Plex? I have followed the usual steps. Installed drivers via Nvidia Driver, but had to remove "--runtime=nvidia" from Plex extra parameters because the install would fail. I cannot seem to get HW transcoding to work now.

Oh, have you restarted the docker service after you installed the Nvidia-Plugin or at least restarted Unraid itself?

That's a necessary step on the first installation of the plugin!

The warnings and the notifications should have said that.

Install new beta35 -> Reboot -> Download the 'Nvidia-Driver' from the CA App -> then I would recommend to reboot again -> then add the '--runtime=nvidia' back to the container and everything should work as expected again.

If you remove '--runtime=nvidia' the container can't access the Nvidia driver.

@ich777 so this would also mean we could have iSCSI support in stock Unraid with the right modules loaded and plugin (that you are working on).

I'm excited if that's the case!

(and I'm already super excited about 6.9)

Yes, exactly, now the plugin is really basic (since I'm not really the webcoding guy) but @SimonF and @Joedy are currently working on a frontend for the plugin that's a little more polished than my approach and I will test and implement that as soon as the give me the OK that is everything finished and ready for deployment.

then everybody would have been happy.

I think the point is that @linuxserver.io created the plugin first and I've created a Docker container, I think a year later, so that you can build unofficial images yourself with Nvidia, DVB,... or whatever you want to integrate (because I needed a way to integrate Nvidia and DVB drivers in my Unraid system.

I reached out to @limetech when I read about that they would implement Nvidia drivers in one of the next builds and I'll be happy to help with that if they need something.

  14. 8 hours ago, memphisto said:

@limetech Ok, you will support DVB drivers for future releases?

I have also created a plugin for that that should show up in the next few hours in the CA App (it's currently in beta and you have to add one line to your 'go' file so that the DVB card(s) that you have installed are initialized correctly on system startup).

  15. @aptalca You also know that I had to test things and do also much trail and error but I also got a lot of help from klueska on Github.

One side note about that, I tried asking and getting help from you because I don't know nothing about Kernel building and all this stuff but no one ever answered or did anything to help me.

I completely understand that @CHBMB is working at healthcare and doesn't have that much time in times like this...

@aptalca, @CHBMB & @bass_rock Something about my Unraid-Kernel-Helper container, I know the initial plugin came from you (in terms of the Nvidia driver) but I also wanted to make the build of this some more open and needed a way to integrate DVB drivers with the Nvidia driver to my Unraid system.

My work was manly inspired by you guys and I also gave it credit for that but I also want to share it with the community in general if someone want's to integrate anything other than the Nvidia or DVB drivers like now I have support for the Mellanox Firmware Tools or iSCSI...

I will also keep updating my Unraid-Kernel-Helper plugin if someone wants a all in one solution and build the bz* images on their own.

If you want to blame anyone about this then you have to blame me, when I read about that @limetech is going to integrate the Nvidia drivers into one of the next Unraid beta builds, I wrote a PM to @limetech and offered my help.

And that's all what I have to say about that, I think Unraid is one of the best Server OS's out there in my opinion and I simply want to push it forward...

OK. What is the easiest way to revert back now? There is no downgrade option so I assume i have to replace a file on the flash drive?

There should be the option to revert back to the previous version on the update page.

If not download the beta25 from here: Click

And replace all the files that start with 'bz' on your USB boot device from the zip archive.

Reboot the server and you are back on beta25. ;)

EDIT: Don't replace everything, you risk to overwrite your setting!
