I found that if I remove the binding for Plex IGPU HW transcoding in the go file I get my screen back?

#Setup drivers for hardware transcoding in Plex
    #modprobe i915
    #chown -R nobody:users /dev/dri
    #chmod -R 777 /dev/dri

Only change... how can that be?

Is this by design? or a bug?

Noob question alert (that dictates whether I go card shopping or have to plan another Unraid rebuild)...

I have a free PCI-E 3.0 x8 (in x16 slot) port in my X10SL7-F motherboard.  My (limited) understanding thinks that an x16 card will be OK in an x8 slot for this purpose, yes?

    Yes I have a 16x card in a 8x works fine

Okay removed the modprobe it and did at reboot and now I have my console screen back on the primary P2000 card. 😊

I then started to play files and many files and I still couldn't see any stream on the "watch nvidia-smi" output console

But then I noticed that the load went up, and so is the memory so could it just be an error on the output screen?

I just tried rolling back to Version: 6.7.0-rc2 because I think it was working at that time, but no change?

Without the modprobe I just can't switch between the GPU and the iGPU (If I wanted to use it, temporarily example for some passthrough to a VM)

And on top of it all I can't see if its really working anyway? - Is there any monitoring available for the iGPU some linux command?

Last thing... is there any way to remove everything related to the Plex setup and transcoding and just start over with OUT creating a new UnRAID USB stick?

I was under the impression that dockers was contained, but it seems that GPU changes can happen many places in UnRaid

Remember this was working for a very brief moment ;-) and it might be working now? just cant see any of the streams in the "watch nvidia-smi"

As always your valuable insight is most appreciated!

Yes, probably.  I see the same with my GTX 1060.  When there is usage, the processes are not listed, but when not in use, it says something like there is no process using the card.

Ok that could indicate that there is another problem, I just closed my firefox running 6 streams and they all continued to run on Plex?

I had to reboot them to kill the streams, even tautulli and the Plex dasboard couldnt kill them! only a reboot

If you want to be sure it's not using the iGPU, remove the modprobe i915 from your go file. But with priviliged off and no /dev/dri passed through, it's using your gpu.

Even though nvidia-smi doesn't show anything doesn't mean it's not working. Might be a bug with it and your card. Which card do you have?

I know the card works because it actually did work for a whole glorious hour yesterday at 18:50 I got 10 streams with like only 9-10% load

it's a Quadro P2000 everyone wrote that this was the one to get...

    image.png.13c001a9bb551f2dc929d34cce132db9.png

and then after a reboot it just stopped working today?

Since then I have tried to think what could have changed? (The privileged setting was one thing!)

Okay so changing the Go file to:

    #!/bin/bash
    # Start the Management Utility
    /usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

#Setup drivers for hardware transcoding in Plex
    #modprobe i915
    #chown -R nobody:users /dev/dri
    #chmod -R 777 /dev/dri

    Again thanks for your help!

Did you remove the device mapping? Also make sure it is not in privileged mode. Both of those will let plex see the igpu. Without them, plex won't even know the igpu is there

Thanks @aptalcaThat was something I hadn't tried during my last 5 hours of troubleshooting :-)

thanks for your input! - Disabled privileged input didn't realize that this would make a difference

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to make a difference...

This is my configuration - made from scratch no copy so there shouldn't be any device mapping to the old IGPU

    image.thumb.png.4e280892d85fb5cf567478efb3b24e32.png

What about the console screen going blank after booting is this normal? - Im afraid some other thing is taking ownership of the GPU?

I just did a total clean pull-install and set everything up from scratch!

(Also set the GPU as primary - Plex forum states that the primary display will be selected from Plex for HW transcoding)

    image.thumb.png.f94dd5a2b8fc638c28b3664dea9d055a.png

And no matter what I do it does hw but I can not see any streams on the GPU?

This is driving me nuts.... I have been trying so many different things i'm out of ideas?

UPDATE: I have noticed that after changing primary display (and moving the console cable to the new primary)

the screen goes black after booting UnRAID? why wouldn't it just stay like normal blinking root?

does the new UnRAID build take ownership of the GPU after boot?

I also tried disabling the "PCIe ACS override" since I had this turned on in order to split my HW up into groups for the VM's didn't change a thing...

Does any of the developers of this great achievement have any ideas as to how this could/can work on a board with a IGPU?

Some says that the P2000 doesn’t like to run headless - without a monitor attached so I also tried a DisplayPort dummy plug to try and fake out the adapter.

But sofar it just keep utilizing the IGPU, no matter what I do?

Please does anyone here have it working on a board with a IGPU? then please share your configuration ;-)

    thanks

  10. Hi All

I have added a GPU card to my UnRAID server and moved my console to the GPU card instead of the IGPU

and now the screen goes blank? - is this normal behaviour, I have not done any passthrough to any VM's (all set to VNC)

or is it the new UnRAID Nvidia plugin that takes control of the GPU during boot?

(UnRAID isn't even auto mounted so I can't believe that is the case)

In this video it is stated that the screen will go blank if you try to pass through a Nvidia GPU as a primary GPU?  (timecode 10:04)

if this is the case then how to I remove it?

I tried deleting both & reinstalling...but ended up still having the same issue

Same here had to try it

    Delete:

root/etc/sensors.d/ this folder was empty? - could that be the problem?
    root/flash/config/plugins/dynamix.system.temp/*.*

Uninstall and reinstall but this time I couldn't even get the initial list of sensors?

  13. Plex keep switching back to the IGPU, even after setting the P2000 GPU as primary display in the bios?

Any "force full" way I can configure the Plex docker to only use the GPU?

I Have a Plex docker without the GPU configuration and here it selects the IGU and when doing the "watch nvidia-smi" I get an error like I should get

Running the other Plex Nvidia docker and executing the "watch nvidia-smi" it works and I get the picture below but no load on the GPU?

    image.png.22503c0930c24a16457999dd28e2e36b.png

Looking in Plex I can see that it HW transcodes so it is using the IGPU again....

    image.png.93163331c2e92bff7eeb1f030b43ee44.png

One thing come to think about it I did create a Video device in the org Docker that I build the new one on, but the below settings is not in any of the dockers so it can't be that can it?

Anywhere I can manually go through the file? or does anyone have any working XML template that I can try out?

When it works it is GREAT...

SSH to your unraid server and run it from there?

I've got both my iGPU and nvidia gpu enabled on my server and I've got a console no problem. Also no idea if plex does this but Emby allows you to have multiple GPU transcoders:

    image.png.07b63daed550a5e90241ec74fd60a67b.png

No Plex doesn’t do this, I remember a video from sloth tech tv and a post Plex will use the first - primary display device and only one!

Did you need the custom version of Plex that was built in that thread or does it work with any Plex now?  I'm running current binhex docker image.

    Thanks!

So maybe a stupid Q but the decoder is only used if you use your Unraid server for direct playback to a Screen right?

  16. Yes because Plex used my IGPU - it was showing HW transcoding in Plex and nothing in the above load for my P2000 Card.

i just changed my BIOS to have the PCi 1 as primary graphic and now the P2000 is encoding and doing all the work. Only downside is that I don’t have any console visible on my Unraid server anymore 😞

And you can update the plugin even if you already have preclear sessions running.

I just did! while having two of them running :-) works perfectly starts up as paused and nice touch about setting limits and not having a fixed one - love it

Thinking about your request, I found a way to easily implement this, so it's added in version 2019.02.12.

Just go to to Tools > Preclear Disk and, in the title bar, click on the tachometer icon. Ps: this will not survive a reboot.

WAow! now it can run while I am away for the weekend - Thanks @gfjardim your the man!

  19. Hi All

I am new to UnRAID and I have been busy building my new NAS and have read a lot of excellent post on what to do when moving large amount of data from old NAS to the new NAS.

    1. Direct move to Array (No cash enabled on share)
    2. Fixed IP and in bridge mode 3-6 Gigabit connection 2 on MB and 4 on HP extension card
    3. No Parity setup (Waiting to do this after the move)
    4. (I SKIPPED THIS ONE?) Enable reconstruct write mode in Settings - Disk Settings.  All your drives will
be spun up, but the writes will go ~3 times faster.  You can disable it after the transfer is done.

But to my surprise the UI freezes while copying data? But looking at the load it really shouldnt be a problem?

    image.png.864ec82ed8c258a93904592538d11cdc.png

    image.thumb.png.8a48e1fd14e7b53a44dc722ce8df77d5.png

I initiated the transfer from my Synology to my new UnRAID server (Push)....

    Am I doing something wrong?

All menu settings, WM etc runs slow.... have to wait for the share setting to load the full page and so on.....

On my system it works as expected and I can't reproduce the issue as shown in your video.

At the moment you press Apply, it will write the new settings to the flash device. Perhaps some corruption on your flash device?

Shutdown your system and take the USB out, let it error check on a Windows machine. See if this helps.

The USB is fine and the conf files is also written:

    sensors.conf

    # sensors
    chip "coretemp-isa-0000"
    label "temp1" "CPU Temp"
    chip "jc42-i2c-0-1a"
    label "temp1" "MB Temp"

    And drivers.conf

    jc42

I am just not seeing any temperatures (Only at selection of the probes)

Can it be the MB or the chipset? - It's a new MB for the Xeon E-2100G CPU's  Gigabyte C246-WU4

Just go to the docker screen, click at the bottom "add container" click your plex template and change the the name of the container to Plex(iGPU) and then just edit the parameters to the iGPU settings. Now you can have two containers with each gpu hardware transcoding capability.

Great I didn't know I could use my already configuration!

Unfortuanetly I get an error when trying to start the docker with the GPU (I have checked my input for any special hidden character )

    image.thumb.png.42d74d2cb10600401e5a527421c9f760.png

Someone in this thread reported that he replaced his existing template with the standard template?

Don't know how to do this? only standard template I can select is not the one for Linuxserver Plex

    So close now!!! ;-)

OK REMOVED everything and started over and I got it started but the looks like the docker selects the internal IGU before the Nividia GPU?

    image.png.b2fa4e887cd99145b278041a83959409.png

Do I need to change the Bios so that the external card is the primary for this to work?

  22. @Tybio So what temperature sensor did you have on your MB?

Did you get it working? - Sofar I cant get my temperature working in UnRAID (Dynamix Temp)

If you have it working and it somehow is tied into the Chipset which is the same, then I would love to hear what you did?

My build is otherwise performing as I hoped, also got the Plex IGP working but would like to try out my new P2000 just to see if I can see a difference?

But I don't want to mess with the working Plex docker - Do you know if I can just copy it and make a clone docker?Anyway I hope your server is also performing like you expected

Looks like you are running the NVidia plugin. This installs a custom version of Unraid. Probably not causing this issue though.

    Have you tried another browser?

Yes IE, Firefox & Chrome same thing. ( The NVidia plugin was first installed today and not activated yet, the Temp problem have been there from the very beginning secound plugin I installed after UAD ;-)
