  1. Thanks WeeboTech, I had a little play with rsync but couldn't quite figure it out, so for now I've mounted the unraid share on the diskstation, and set up a scheduled backup to pull the data across. That seems to be working and can be incrementally updated. And it has a gui as a bonus. I'll persevere with rsync because it's more customisable but I'll have to do a bit more reading about connecting across a network.
  2. This explains how to set up the Synology as a destination server (to receive backup?) and below that how to backup via rsync to my unraid box. https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledgebase/tutorials/461#t3 Question, can I do both? So say sync my media to the synology to back it up, and do the reverse to backup the synology to the unraid or is that not advisable? I've just had 2 drives start failing on my PC so I'm keep to sync these two and then also have a backup of all my other data again via USB drive, and another online. OCD maybe, but it will be photos and my business/personal documents that I'll be backing up to 3 to 4 separated locations.
  3. Thanks WeeboTech. I've googled rsync a bit and I assume from what I've read it's all command line based. The synology box seems to be able to act as a rsync client or a rsync server. Am I right is thinking that the server syncs to the client? Is there a GUI for this stuff or a "how to" to get me started on rsync for unraid? I know a bit of linux, and I'm learning but I'm no guru. Ultimately I want unraid to be the original because I have no intention of playing with my plugins which is all working fantastically. The Synology is just going to be a backup copy. It will also host backups from my PCs/Mac and some documents that I can access via the web using Synology's cloud software and apps. For this it should work well I think, and the read write speeds are better for accessing and backing up. I'm happy with my unraid server, so don't think I'm leaving, it's the best system for handling my media collection. I'm actually about to buy a licence after being a "freeloader", so I can expand to a few extra drives and get user capability (not sure if I need that for rsync or not).
  4. Hi, I've just bought a Synology DS414 for my data files, Time machine, PC backups etc, so my unraid HP N40L can just act as a media server, with all my plugins running. My unraid server currently has 3Tb of data, and the new Synology has 8.7Tb of free spare, so plenty of room to back up the unraid box. I was hoping to backup the unraid server to the synology hopefully with an automated sync plugin or something so that I don't have to run it via a PC and maybe schedule it for nighttime. I'm not sure if running the sync from unraid is best or seeing if synology has a plugin to do it. Any help is appreciated.
  5. I brought this up before in 5.05 thread here http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=31472.210 Having had a bit of correspondence with Tom about the matter it appears that the system uses the correct time. I created a file and moved it to the server, and the dates are correct, also unmenu reports the correct time, and the correct time is noted in the syslog, so it appears that the time setting appearing incorrectly is nothing for me to panic about after all. Phew In saying that it still appears correct in the settings > date and time on the Webgui.
  6. Has this been fixed in 5.0.6? It listed as part of 5.0.5's known issues, but appears to be still listed there under 5.0.5 > 5.0.6 upgrade notes. Known issues in this release ---------------------------- - slack: the time setting "(UTC+10:00) Brisbane" is wrong: Brisbane does not use daylight savings time like (UTC+10:00) Camberra, Melbourne, Sydney.
  7. Well it would mate, daylight savings hasn't kicked in yet (we are upside down remember). When 5.0.5 was released in January 22, 2014 we were in summer daylight savings time here in Australia but we don't have daylight savings in Queensland, it only effects the southern states mostly. I stayed on 5.0.4 until a maintenance release could be issued, but never did. Just saying! There is no option on the Tower > settings > Date & Time to just select +10 no day light savings. The issue is that when 5.0.5 was released the day light savings was incorrectly set to on for Brisbane according to the readme.txt in that release. Minor issue maybe, but it's an issue, and maybe I'm the only one in Queensland using unraid 5, who know. lol.
  8. I'm still stuck on 5.04 because 5.05 has time zone issues with Brisbane. Heading back towards daylight savings (but we don't change). I know V6 is the new kid on the block, but V5 is the only stable release! Surely there would have been a fix by now!!! It's a bit disappointing.
  9. If everything is working and you aren't needing new features I would just stay with 4.7 and be happy. Wait for v6 even when a stable is released for a while. I upgraded from 4.7 to 5 because I wanted to run the plex plugin. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have worried about it.
  10. Yay, solved it. The recycle plg installs code to the smb-extra.conf file and it wrote over the public = yes and writeable = yes lines for my apps drive. Once replaced and double check of the recycle bin code and it's all working fine. Phew! I was having a wee bit of a panic there. Could you tell?
  11. When the recycle plg is enabled it locks and bin and apps folder completed. when it's disabled the bin folder disappears, and the apps folder is still accessable. For example these folders are set to 777 but I can't access them from my windows PC because I'm not nobody. It doesn't effect the array at all or the other apps running sab and sickbeard. I can look into the folders listed below but can't see any of the files, and NZBtodownload is always empty, the files deposited in there just get loaded to sab and removed. drwxrwxrwx 8 nobody users 336 2014-09-02 19:48 Completed\ Downloads/ drwxrwxrwx 2 nobody users 48 2014-08-28 14:40 NZBtodownload/ Can anyone help me on this? Edited: Also a file listed in a folder with drwxrwxrwx nobody with can't be deleted either? -rwxrwxrwx 1 nobody users 23975400 2014-09-02 19:48
  12. Hi, I installed the recycle bin plg today and then I went to copy and delete something from my apps drive and windows gets a permission error that I have to be TOWER\nobody. The apps drive is mounted outside the array, and the array seems uneffected. How can I fix this? On unraid 5.04, with apps drive mounted via boot. I've had no issues with this set up until recycle bin app was installed.
  13. +1 for this! Lucky Influencer made a plugin to get it going for me in V5.
  14. I contacted Influencer by PM and he replied. He hasn't disappeared and he noticed many of the plug-ins have been picked up by Phaze but he said to let everyone know he's still around. He's said between work and other endeavors unraid has been placed on the back-burner for a while until he has more time. 3 kids, a wife and working 12 hours a day 6 days a week takes up all his time which I fully understand. I'm in the same boat as a stay home dad, life is busy! Anyway, he fixed up the issues with the recycle bin .plg so it's working now (I just installed it). Woohoo no more accidental deletions of my data!!!! Grab it Here!! (right click > save as) and reboot or install it from the console using installplg /boot/config/plugins/vfs_recycle_unplugged.plg The go to the settings page of unraid menu, and turn it on and enable.
  15. Looks a bit abandoned to me. I PM'd him and got no reply. The .plg doesn't work for me, spits out an error on installation to do with downloading from his dropbox account. Might have to try a manual install. Seriously though I set up a Synology unit for a customer and it had toggles for enabling a recycle bin. Why unraid doesn't have one I don't know.
  16. version 6 is a beta product, 5.0.5 is stable. Great if you want to play with Zen, but for my server it's not worth the risk. I'll run it on my backup server when it gets finished to play around with. I'm still on 5.0.4 because 5.0.5 broke the daylight savings Brisbane timezone (we don't have daylight savings) and I wasn't going to take the risk with it screwing things up. But guess what? It's all still working as unraid always does, Yay for unraid. Updates are great, but when nothing if broke, I can wait for a little eye candy. I'm sure Tom is working hard behind the scenes though.
  17. I'm glad I saw this. Known issues in this release ---------------------------- - slack: the time setting "(UTC+10:00) Brisbane" is wrong: Brisbane does not use daylight savings time like (UTC+10:00) Camberra, Melbourne, Sydney. I'll be giving this one a miss until that's fixed just incase it causes issues.
  18. Using plex with rc16c no issues same as with earlier versions. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2 I rebooted again, went to bed, and tested this morning and all working fine. Phew. I don't know what I would do without plex!
  19. Updated from 16b to 16c. Plex played video fine with 16b, and after I updated I tested the same video on 16c and it was freezing and jumping all over the place. Will retest tomorrow because I'm off to bed. I've never had any issues with plex on unraid, no errors. Would anything Tom changed effect other plex users not having issues up to 16b? I know very little about linux and I don't understand what got fixed to stop the transport endpoint not connected issues.
  20. BillyJ, disable simplefeatures and check the problem exists in the stock share report. Otherwise it's just another simple features issue as the RCs progress. Also someone needs to update the latest RC on the front page
  21. I've only just found out that unmenu was updated and it looks fantastic! Great work! JoeL, do you think the useful links and help menus could probably be rolled into one?
  22. That is not an error, it is just a syslog line with the word "kernel" within it. Thanks Joe L. That's good to know, but it does get highlighted in red and has the word (Errors) after it in unmenu so I was a bit worried. The syslog doesn't mention errors, so I've learned my lesson to read the syslog before panic sets in! I'll re-load RC13 and give it another go.
  23. Just waiting on a reboot. I just wanted to know if it was just me! Update: Just rebooted and no mem errors at all. Sys log for 12a is attached. Any one have any ideas what's causing it? I didn't disable my plugins BUT the mem errors are very early on, before they even kick in and I haven't had any issues with upgrades since I went from 4.7 to RC10. 11 and 12. syslog-2013-06-04_1.txt
  24. I loaded RC13, rebooted. Getting some mem errors during the first stages of boot in the syslog. Anyone else getting them? Only went from RC12 to RC13. Tower kernel: [mem 0x00000000-0x000fffff] page 4k (Errors) sys log attached. syslog-2013-06-04.txt
