August 26, 201213 yr Just wondering if the performance issues with the Marvell chipset controllers ( eg AOC-SAS[2]LP-MV ) have been fixed in the latest beta? I've got two of the SAS2LP cards sitting in their boxes that I've been scared to install in my server and I've been waiting for some news that these cards are confirmed stable and reliable in the latest version. Read about performance issues with RC5, but have not seen any updates to this issue in RC6.
August 26, 201213 yr Has progress stalled on the release candidate? This post was started more than a month and a half ago and not much news is coming out. The 5.0 beta process has been rather long. Just wondering where we stand.

Read about performance issues with RC5, but have not seen any updates to this issue in RC6. I'm running RC6-test2 without problems on AOC-SASLP-MV8, although the performance isn't great (as mentioned by others, whereas RC5 did not have performance problems but did have reliability issues). It's been stable and reliable for me, but Tom mentioned issues were only noticeable in RC5 when hardware problems occurred and this has not been the case for me.
August 26, 201213 yr I, too, confirm that -test2 solved my very frustrating stability problems with a saslp card, but also that it is slow. Of course, I'd prefer that it be faster, but most of all I want it to work--and it does (knock wood).
August 26, 201213 yr I must have missed test2 version. I have rc6 r8168 test that is all I see in the Announcements section too. What chagned in the test2 and where is it?

August 28, 201213 yr Can we get an update from Limetech as to the status with 5 Final please? +1 +1 Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

What are the differences between B14 and RC6 for those with one AOC-SASLP-MV8 and spin-up groups?
September 1, 201213 yr I have no idea what the differences are, but my b14 SASLP machine with 10 disks (parity & cache included) has had zero issues. Uptime is 156 days. Drives spin up individually as needed, but I've only got 4 on the SASLP, the rest are on the mobo - running a single breakout cable. Read: 66MBs - from one of my samsung 1.5tb drives Cache-Write: (average 64MBs peaked at 72MBs) Cache-Read: 73MBs (peak 77MBs) Parity-Calc speed: I dunno, I can test that later this week when I won't be using it. Only thing I'm really waiting for is 5.1 w/ EXT4 & trim support for cache. Otherwise? Very satisfied with the performance of B14. (no idea on parity rebuild speeds, didn't pay attention to it when it was rebuilding parity last week when I installed the SSD as a cache) Specific hardware listed below ***edit to specify a write to the cache drive, not to array

Far as i know the only tangible difference to someone using it for data / media backups is the 20 drive limit in b14 vs 24 in rc6 Sent from my SGH-I727R using Tapatalk 2
September 6, 201213 yr +1 for information and update please. I started with UnRaid as it had an active community (and still does) and also seemed to be in a good development process progressing quickly towards a new 5.0 stable, this seems to have stopped. Silence from Limetech is not good and gives totaly the wrong impression to new or potential users
September 6, 201213 yr we really do need an update. the current release support thread is not functional. Besides attempting to cater for all the RC's being a really bad idea it is clogged up with people discussing betas and still coming up with wish lists! At the very least we need a separate sub-forum for each RC Even this sub forum has become impossible to follow unless you check it regularly... how is anyone supposed to know which test version they should be using without weeding through all the different threads..... I appreciate that the current progress is extremely frustrating and that we made need to wait for updates from the linux community but if I am prepared to overlook the promised v4.71 then I think it is not to much to ask for an occasional update on where things are at.
September 6, 201213 yr Perhaps this thread should be split into 2. One for the original topic and the other to ask over and over for an update.

September 7, 201213 yr I think this is becoming the "come on Limetech -- what about some regular updates" by default :-)
September 8, 201213 yr Silence from Limetech is not good and gives totaly the wrong impression to new or potential users This is absolutely true. I use the free-version of unRAID at the moment and i´m thinking about buying the real one because of advanced rights management and all the other stuff. But no development updates, no roadmap (ignoring the absolutely outdated one) and no support (my impression) for third party developers like speeding_ant who, made a really great interface overhaul, stops me from buying right now. I hope this situation will change in near future. Regards Maik
September 8, 201213 yr I have personally been pretty quiet about this because I have been giving Limetech the benefit of the doubt. I put off my initial purchase of unraid for several months because I wanted to be able to use 2+TB drives in my array. A little over a year ago, I bit the bullet and bought 2 of the pro licenses. I figured that there were already several 5.0 betas and a final release was just around the corner. Here we are a little over a year later and still waiting. 3TB drives are now returning to be more cost effective per TB than buying 2TB drives. And no, I am not going to use a beta or RC for primary use, just like I wouldn't use a beta or RC of windows 8. 5.0beta 1 was released in July 2010. It's been over 2 years. I can only kid myself for so long without starting to think that this software is just going to fade away without support. I'm beginning to think it is about time to find something else that offers better communication about the future of the platform.

You paid for 4.7 which still works properly, and does what it said it would when you bought it. The updates are free, and if they take a long time to be released it doesn't hurt you as a consumer, as you already got what you paid for. The license doesn't come with a promise that any updates will be made.
