i dont know what can be done about the crashing. maybe a recompile with a different version of certain packages. running xbmc headless is still very kludgy. but i was thinking along the same lines of self monitoring. i'll add it to the ever growing to do list. shouldn't be too difficult though. i can have the plugin add a script to the cronjobs to check every so often to see whether the service is reported as running and verify that the process is actually running.

 

I think the cronjobs script might be a good idea, as sometimes I can go a week without turning on my XBMC HTPC.

At least for now until it is known exactly why it crashes.

I've installed XBMC Standalone, hd the pcre error but fixed that with the plg tweak to allow both versions to install.  Looks like SF plugin uses pcre also, obviously a different version.

 

Now with xbmc running, I get an error when trying to run a library update:

 

'curl: (7) couldn't connect to host'

 

I think it's the type of protocol I'm using for hosting but wanted to get everyone's input.  I'm using lighttpd to host my media and all my XBMCs connect using the http:// command.

 

I thought it might be a host file issue.  So i changed my host file so the server knows where to connect but I'm still having an issue.

 

Not sure if you need logs or even which ones would help.  XBMC log looks clean just not updating.

 

Any thoughts?

Now i think perhaps the headless XBMC on the unraid machine can also do this. Then nobody has to install mysql anymore.

I'm sorry guys but I can't get it working.

Installed the plg, installed the right version of mySQL, copied the advancesettings.xml and sources but it does not scan my video library...

Somebody could just put an example of "sources.xml"?

you talking about the xbmc webserver? that's a know issue with the xbmc mod itself. right now the answer is just don't do it.

scans also don't seem to be working "took" 0.00sec...

 

webpage only shows "File not Found" text on blank page...

 

Any idea where I've gone wrong??

Recheck that user xbmc has full rights to the xbmc databases

Well the only foggy area for me was the msql portion setting up the xbmc user. I had to erase the mysql data directory and finally got the XBMC salud plugin to create the tables with xbmc user this time, but I still have empty webpage and videoscanner still just starts and finishes in 0.00sec....hmm

Hi Hopefully this is the right place to ask the questions. I have been trying to get xbmc standalone running with no success I have attached my xbmc log file. I tried about everything I can including following the NOOB step by step install with no success. any help or ideas what is not set right would be greatly appreciated.

this kind of goes for anyone having issues. if the log says the scan took 0 seconds, that means something is not communicating with something else. this is usually because of an incorrect setting in xbmc salud or permissions issues. do you have another instance of xbmc that works fine?

Thanks I'm in the process of starting from scratch again following the noob guide. I have 3 Frodo 12.2 systems running nothing else tying to set this up on my seconds unraid server for the first time.

Hi ok I didn't a complete fresh install of the two plugins MySQL and xbmc updater I have attached the 2 log files I just don't know why I can't make the connection anyway if someone with more know can have a look and give any advice on what to check or where to check or where I might get more info to resolve my problem might help. I agree I.P. address is not being resolved and I'm not sure where to check to make them communicate. Is it being blocked somewhere? or is there a way I can set it to communicate. Thanks sorry I usually have no problem with plugins but I seem to be spending way to much time on this one and can  use some experience help. My XBMC system works fine and updates with no problems from my other unraid server.

Sorry, I was a little unclear. I meant permissions to the database. Do you already have a mysql database up and working with a separate XBMC?

 

I have no mysql database. I started from scratch, as I was under the impression that the plugin is able to build a database from zero. Do I first need an existing mysql database?

it does build the database but you also have to create a user and assign them rights to the database. it is much easier if you already have an up and running system and add this to it. i would suggest installing a mysql plugin in unraid and install xbmc on windows or something and make sure updating works. once that is proven then adding the plugin is very simple (instruction in the OP). for those that have never setup a mysql database with xbmc i recommend doing it that way because most of the time it is not a problem with the xbmc salud plugin but a problem with the mysql database, due to unfamiliarity with setting up a mysql shared database in xbmc. this is further complicated by the fact that it is on unraid, and when compile that with trying to setup this unfamiliar plugin then people get all sorts of confused.

 

i have updated the OP to reflect this advice for users in the future.

I managed to get it working, but I had to deviate a little from the OP instructions. First, to get in the MySQL command line utility the '$' from $mysql -u root -p has to be dropped. I then created a xbmc user and granted it all rights as per your instructions. That still did not work as both xbmc on my win client and salud did not find the MySQL video and music database.

 

I followed the lifehacker tutorial by manually creating the video and music databases:

CREATE database MyVideos75;
CREATE database MyMusic32;

 

Then again I granted xbmc rights on everything. After these steps, everything works.

 

BTW, the mysql server data folder is installed with user right which make it not possible to open the folder on my win7 client through samba. I had to chmod the folder to be able to access it.

yes, the $ signifies the prompt so it is not typed. i wasnt sure about having to create the database or not. mine was already created and i believe that xbmc will create it in some cases. i dont remember though. i think based on your feedback i will clean up the instructions a tad to be more noob friendly.

Is there any way to compile this with python 2.6.6 ??

I have way too many plugins that use that version of python and when I install SALUD it removes 2.6.3 and installs 2.7.3, inturn breaking some of my servers functionality.

I tried running some of the plugins with 2.7 but they just wont work, and all plugins that I use python on my server require version 2.6.3.

SALUD is the only one requiring 2.7 version of python.
