smdion's Docker Template Repository - Directions and Help Here

Sorry if this has been answered before and I just overlooked it throughout the forums... I've tried installing the headphones docker a couple of times but without the EDGE value set it tells me it doesn't know what version I am running, and I hadn't been able to get any of my music added. So I tried fresh setting EDGE to 1 and it is not loading at all. This is what is showing in the logs:

i saw this last night with somebody else's container, patch has just been updated in ubuntu, i don't know whether the edge routine for this container has an apt-get update prior to the apt-get install git line or not, but maybe that will solve it.

I am having issues with installing maraschino

PS. Last night I updated to beta 15 and I noticed that docker container/layer downloads are excruciatingly slow (still painfully slow this morning). I couldn't figure out whether it is a docker online problem or an unraid issue due to the fact that my unraid docker is now updated to 1.5. Anybody else experiencing this?

dockerhub is playing up today, i have 2 builds that have been showing pending for nearly an hour, last night i was getting builds showing as error and then ten minutes later showing finished and intermitently i can't look at the build logs as they are unavailable.

all in all dockerhub has gone to pot last day or so.

Has anybody been able to get the owncloud reverse proxy working correctly? I'm able to access owncloud through the browser by going to www.example.com/owncloud, but I am unable to connect using the webdav client. Also, when I go to the admin section, I get an error message saying, "Your web server is not yet properly setup to allow files synchronization because the WebDAV interface seems to be broken." Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried and did manage it, but, and I can't remember why, I ended up doing a manual install of owncloud, just seemed easier in the end.

Did you do a manual install using a docker? If so, can you share the dockerfile? I may try a different docker next. I think the problem is the owncloud docker and not the reverse proxy setup.

I downloaded the setup files from owncloud and put them in my web folder of the reverse proxy docker, then edited proxyconfig.conf

Hmm... That doesn't seem to work for me. I believe the issue is that the reverse-proxy docker doesn't have all the php modules installed. I may try a separate apache docker and install owncloud inside of there.

Oh yeah, I forgot, I adapted the reverse proxy, search for my username on github and docker and give it a go.

Although did have a docker build error last week so had to remove php5-intl and php5-gdm. Haven't had chance to investigate yet..

Sorry to ask such a basic question, but I am new to the whole Docker thing. I have been using  unRAID for about 5 years +. I also have a separate Ubuntu Server 14.04 that is running Nginx, MySQL, etc. So while I have experience w/ both unRAID and Nginx, I dont have any with them together.

I want to setup the Ngix Docker template and I am having a hard time figuring out what to put where.

Do I need to add additional Container Volume paths for /config and /web as the instructions say? Or I just fill the ones listed in the page's form?. If someone can please tell me exactly what is recommended for each Container Volume and Host Path pairing, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have changed my unRAID web interface to be on port 84 so it will not conflict w/ 80 on Nginx.

Lastly, when I ran the Docker, I was not able to install Midnight Commander (MC) using "apt-get install mc". I have been able to add it to the MariaDB docker. What is correct procedure for this? I am lost without MC to navigate around the drive.

I am really ready to mothball my Ubuntu Server machine. My unRAID is running at about 24% memory capacity and 2% to 12% cpu capacity.

Thanks!!

It seems the problem is with gfjardin's docker. The reverse proxy works perfectly fine with this docker: https://registry.hub.docker.com/u/l3iggs/owncloud/

Example docker run command:

docker run -d --name=owncloud -p 8443:443 -v /mnt/cache/appdata/owncloud/data:/usr/share/webapps/owncloud/data  -v /mnt/cache/appdata/owncloud/config:/usr/share/webapps/owncloud/config  -v /mnt/cache/appdata/owncloud/certs:/https l3iggs/owncloud

From taking a look at the docker run command, you put all your site.conf files in "/path/to/nginx/sites-enabled" on your unraid server. I would recommend a path such as "/mnt/cache/appdata/nginx/site-enabled".  Similarly, put your ssl certificates in "/path/to/nginx/cert". If you want to expose your logs, specify a path for "/path/to/nginx/logs". Finally, put your nginx.conf file in "/path/to/conf". You should be up and running after that.

And don't forget to make your appdata user share cache-only

Thank you guys...

Bungy, to recap, I should set as follows:

/var/log/nginx = /mnt/cache/appdata/nginx/log/

/etc/nginx/certs = /mnt/cache/appdata/nginx/certs/

/etc/nginx/sites-enabled = /mnt/cache/appdata/nginx/site-enabled/

/etc/localtime = /etc/localtime

In addition to the above, I have to create NEW paths like this:

/config = /mnt/cache/appdata/nginx/

/web = /mnt/cache/appdata/nginx/www/ (html and php files for my sites go in here)

Will the above work?

Trurl - thanks for the tip on the appdata share. I kept seeing this in samples for other Dockers, and I was wondering why it was not an issue. Your pointer clarified this for me.

Thanks again,

Hernando

At first glance, yes that looks like it'll work for you. I haven't tried the nginx docker before, so this is based primarily on the documentation that comes with smdion's docker.

Also, you don't need to create the /config and /web directories. Setting up the volume mounts in the template should be all you need to do. When the docker first runs, it'll create those directories and mount your unraid directories the way you specified them using the template. Feel free to post a screenshot before you hit create if you're feeling doubtful about your settings.

Thank you Bungy,

Below is a screencap of my settings (I have not hit Create yet). The only missing piece is where will the html, and php files go that make the web site up. I guess it will be specified in the sites-enabled configuration files...

Lastly, is there a way to install Midnight Commander? I tried it earlier (with a wrong configuration) and "apt-get install mc" did not work. Could it be that my Docker file is too small at 15GB? I have dropbox, mariadb, and plex media server already. What is the trick to enlarge the docker file?

Thank you....!!

I think the reason you're not seeing where to add your website files is this docker is meant to be a reverse proxy. This means it's meant to point to other website/webservers. In other words, it's not meant to host any websites, but just to redirect traffic. For example you could redirect traffic from www.yourdomain.com/someservice to wherever someservice is behind your firewall (e.g. 192.168.1.101). If you want a true nginx docker that can host your website files, you may be better off with the official image.

The official docker can be found at: https://registry.hub.docker.com/_/nginx/

You'll have to create the docker from the command line in unraid rather than through a template. The documentation on the site looks adequate. Give it a shot, and I may be able to help you along the way. I learned most of how to create docker run commands by reading through the documentation. I know it's daunting, and dockers are a pain at first to learn how to use, but they really are great once you figure out how they work.

Wow... I had no clue... I thought it was the real Nginx.... I will follow your advice and read about it... I am  glad you caught that otherwise I would be driving myself crazy trying to work this for weeks..

Thanks for your help and all the templates you have cretaed for the community.

No worries. You can probably get it to work with the reverse proxy docker also if you mount your web directory to wherever the docker container's DocumentRoot is located. In the apache reverse proxy, it's /var/www. I'm not sure where it is for the nginx reverse proxy. You're at the mercy of which php modules come installed with the nginx reverse proxy, but it's worth a shot.

I threw together a Nginx docker at the request of some people, if you see somethings that you want added, let me know.  I personally use the apache one.

I have no problem using Apache.... Which Docker template do you use? I just need it to serve web pages regularly. I do not need reverse proxy stuff.

Thank you very much.

The Apache reverse proxy will do this from smdion's repo.  I use it myself as both a reverse proxy and as a web server.

Is there anything that I need to do "special" so it functions properly without the reverse proxy. Thanks.

No, just edit proxyconfig.conf
