Hello guys,

I'm trying to update my system, from 6.1.9 (to 6.3.2 now, but I tried with previous updates before that), and I've been trying for 2-3 months already and my system just can't get through the download .zip file process. I tried by clicking the "check for update" button and then "update", but as it won't work I also tried in the "Install plugin" by pasting the .plg file url in the text filed.

the download process get stuck at 0% of the download.. sometime the percentage doesn't even show up.

How can I update my system ?

Thanks.

Edit:

Precision on my situation (don't know if relevant or not), I'm currently living in China, so behind the great f**ing firewall, so I'm using a VPN on my main computer but others computer on my LAN aren't benefiting from this VPN. I'm not sure how the unRaid system works, if it's the server itself managing the download (then its without VPN) or if it's my main computer downloading it and rerouting it to unRaid (in this case it's with VPN)...

and my outside IP isn't static.

here is the "log" of the process:

plugin: installing: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/limetech/unRAIDServer/master/unRAIDServer.plg
plugin: downloading https://raw.githubusercontent.com/limetech/unRAIDServer/master/unRAIDServer.plg
plugin: downloading: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/limetech/unRAIDServer/master/unRAIDServer.plg ... done

Go to this site and download the version that you want:

         https://lime-technology.com/download/

Then copy the bz* files to the root of your flash drive and reboot.

Now, your problem is most likely that you haven't setup your server so that it can find a DNS server.  Post up a screenshot of your "Settings"  >>  'Network Settings"  and someone will be able to help you.  Probably best to do this in a separate thread in the 'Support' forum.

I'll try this manual install in a minute, thanks.

Regarding DNS, I'm using OpenDNS. I tried several settings but no success. The suprising thing is it worked for a while, as I have this unRaid NAS for about a year already.

ok, so, I did the manual update, by replacing the bz* files on the flash drive, and after the reboot I just can't open my unRaid in firefox. I can access my shares in windows explorer though. How do I get back my NAS in firefox ?

here is my diagnostics if needed:

Try using      http://192.168.1.109

If you can, the your router does not 'know' that that  IP address is called "tower".

And can you reach your router using     http://192.168.1.42 ?    If not, you have the wrong entry for the Default Gateway.

I'm using the IP already, and yes I can reach the router with this IP. The only thing that change from before is I did the manual update and reboot

Strange thing is I can access my PLEX server installed by a plugin at this adress : http://192.168.1.109:32400/web/index.html#!/...  so, with the IP of my unRaid

Stranger again, after 2 reboot and 15-20 minutes of "loading" in firefox (you know, the little grey circling anim in the tab when firefox is resolving the url), I got my unRaid back !

Go through the first two posts in this thread as you were coming from 6.1.9 and, in some cases, there was a lot of 'housekeeping' required.

Upgrade happened from 6.3.1, but having issues.

Server will not boot into "UNRAID", or "UNRAID Safe Mode", but will boot into "Unraid w/GUI".

Choosing either of the others puts the server into a "boot-loop", and it just keeps restarting from the splash screen/boot loader menu.   Didn't have the issue with the 6.3.1 upgrade.

It's cristal clear, my setup have no love for 6.3.0/1/2 :$

I tested every Windows VM combination, great performance under 6.2.4, but when I update it get hit hard!

If I just replace the bzimage file from 6.2.4, all great again.

Nothing in your logs stands out.  Can you access the webGui for the server in a browser (http://hostname or http://ipaddress)?  I don't believe anyone else has reported this issue either.  So are you stating that on 6.1.9, everything works, then if you upgrade the server to any newer version (6.2.x or 6.3.x), SMB access stops working, and if you drop back down to 6.1.9 everything comes back again?

Exactly. And i can't revert back to 6.1.9 by just replacing the bzroot & bzimage files. When unraid is booted, the array is not set at all. It have lost all my array config. Since that i've done a backup of my usb drive before the update, i did restore everyting to the key.

So yes, i can access the webGuy with either the hostname of the ipaddress. With the 6.2.x version, i remember that my share was accessible for a few seconds and then the bug appeared. This is like if the SMB service wasn't responding after a few seconds.

Maybe what i can do is to update to the version just after 6.1.9, one by one, and see on which version the problem appear. Where can i download all versions after 6.1.9?

Look back four posts to one that I made regarding a similar issue.  There were a lot things that were required in some cases for a successful upgrade from 6.1.9.

I have the same problem here also and I'm in the US, this has been an issue for me since 6.3.0 and I have had to manually update..

Do you have a SuperMicro MB? If so several including myself can only boot into GUI mode. Mine is an SuperMicro X11SSH-F LN4, but may effect some earlier models too.

He's using an Asus Z170-E, I believe he's the first to report this problem with a non Supermicro board, strange issue. o.O

Strange indeed, just glad I was able to boot into GUI mode. I'll have to do some research to see what these two boards have in common if anything. At least with a second manufacture having similar issues, the cause has a better chance of being found.

Don't know if it will help, I'm using an X11SSM-F without issues and some users with the exact same board have that problem.

This has to be (still) one of the strangest issues I've heard.

Maybe try this:

1) Make a backup copy of /boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg  -->  /boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg_bak

2) Download latest unRAID zip file from our Downloads section

3) Extract the syslinux/syslinux.cfg from within the zip and overwrite /boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg

4) Reboot unRAID and try booting non-GUI mode

Don't know about your problem, but this suggests some issue with your flash drive if indeed you have done what you say here. Your array configuration is stored in super.dat and should be unaffected by reverting.

No, Asus Z-170E MB. But I have a SUPERMICRO AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 drive controller....

Hrmm...

I know another user that has the same config, but with different memory. I'll ask him to get me a copy of his syslinux.cfg file and see if there are any differences between mine and his. I messaged him last night, and his upgrade went smoothly.

Check you BIOS and see if it has a setting for a 'slow' boot (or perhaps it was a 'fast' boot that was enabled).  My Asus MB required that I enable(disable) that 'slow' setting or it would not detect one of my HD's.  I realize that is grasping at straws but this problem is one that simply defiles all logic...

Tried disabling the fast boot, no change.

I have that same board, I'll try upgrading this weekend and see if I run into the same issue.

Going back to 6.2.x is just copying the bzimage file back?
