December 29, 201015 yr Try this: snap.sh -r dune snap.sh -a WD-WMAZA1502825 dune it says yes now can you help me bit further so i can copy, cause i've been trying ages to do copy 2tb I'm sorry I didn't notice the WD- as being part of the serial number earlier. I don't use WD drives. I'm going to add this to the first posting to help make this more visible. Thanks for hanging in there with it. How many partitions got mounted? Do the cd /mnt/disk and ls. no problem thank you for hanging on, if you could do a little more so i can finally start copying i dunno how many partitions got mounted? the 2 files say yes (but all the other disks has 2 too, and they only have one partition, so i dont know) if i do cd /mnt/disk it says is doesnt exist if i do cd /mnt/ and then ls he says disk1
December 29, 201015 yr this doesnt look good although i got that message i did cd /mnt/disk/dune and im at /mnt/disk/dune now can i check if its the right partition? how do i show up the directorys, and copy it to my data disk in the array also "ls" under /mnt/disk/dune doesnt show up anything
December 29, 201015 yr Author It showed the actual linux error which is helpful. What version of unRAID are you using? Do you have unMenu installed? Also it would help if you could post text instead of the fairly tiny pictures. Are you telnet in or is this the console monitor?

December 29, 201015 yr Author In unMenu go to the Disk Management page. Is it possible to mount the dune disk from there? I personally have never mounted an ext2 or ext3 drive. I have this note in my code which might be helpful in this case. # mount the partition ... # Note: It seems that unRAID version of slackware doesn't have the ext3 driver. # http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5777.0 # Joe L. There is no ext3 driver module in unRAID, but if the ext3 file-system # was cleanly unmounted, and there are no journal entries to replay, it may be mounted as ext2.
December 29, 201015 yr In unMenu go to the Disk Management page. Is it possible to mount the dune disk from there? shall i take a pic? i see the 2 parts part 1 i see a button "mount" part 2 not i can also see there that part 1 is only 2gig and part 2 almost 2tb my data is on part 2
December 29, 201015 yr Author Mount the part with the button just as a test. But what you want to get to is part2 which has all the data.

December 29, 201015 yr Author If it did mount then unmount it. I suspect that the error which is the same you saw with SNAP that it didn't actually mount anything. You can also see that SNAP uses essentially the same mount command as unMenu ( I got it from Joe after all). At this point we need advice from a linux guru. Either that dune disk wasn't cleanly unmounted or has journal entries or something that is preventing it from being mounted. This is beyond my experience level.

Either that dune disk wasn't cleanly unmounted or has journal entries or something that is preventing it from being mounted. This is beyond my experience level. it didnt mount yeah same error so what now? this really is annoying trying for days now to copy 2tb (over network is way too slow..., would take 14 days! cause of the dune) the only thing i did with that hard drive is using this dune_service_make_system_storage_on_hdd_partition.dsf Reformats am empty HDD to two partitions, and initializes System Storage on one of these partitions, w/o reinstalling the firmware. NOTE: Using this service on 1.0/2.0 models will correctly initialize System Storage, but will not install Extra Applications; Extra Applications can be installed later by updating/reinstalling the firmware. NOTE: The HDD intended to be reformatted by this service must be empty and must contain just single partition or no partitions at all (and this HDD must be the only such a HDD attached to the player). If it is not empty or contains several partitions, reformat it first (e.g. using the player built-in format function: choose HDD in the main menu, press INFO RC button, choose "Format Disk"). NOTE: This service reformats the HDD to two partitions (one using 2GB and second using the rest of HDD), and initializes the first 2GB partition as System Storage. The second partition is NOT formatted by this service; if you want to format it (and you probably do), you can format it e.g. using the player built-in format function: choose the HDD in the main menu, press INFO RC button, choose "Format Partition"). i can do this though, but i would still have 2 partitions i think dune_service_deinit_system_storage.dsf Deinitializes an already attached System Storage. The currently attached System Storage becomes the usual storage that can be accessed and browsed via the player menu in the usual way. NOTE: After deinitializing System Storage, the resulting storage will typically contain various system files (will not be empty). To reinitialize this storage as System Storage again, you will need first to delete all these files or reformat it. site: http://dune-hd.com/firmware/usb_flash_drive/ i hope you or someone else can help me out... i really hate this , anyway thx for all your help tonight
December 30, 201015 yr i've taken the drive outside the server, plugged it into my vista pc (downloaded ext2/3 driver for vista), and using teracopy its now copying to my unraid data disk i thought it would go faster; at least 20MB/s but i think in some way teracopy is holding back i dunno why

January 2, 201115 yr I've installed SNAP and set up a daily back up to a USB drive that stays attached to the server. I have another USB drive that I will plug in and do a backup once a week. It is very nice to just plug in the drive and have a backup start by itself. Once it is done I remove the drive and store it offsite. Very slick. Thanks queeg for a really nice application. One minor point. I think the snap.sh script should show the -M option as: -M [ sharename ]

One minor point. I think the snap.sh script should show the -M option as: -M [ sharename ] I'm happy to see others putting it to good use. About the -M parameter, I think it should actually be -M [serialnumber or sharename] like the others. Thanks for pointing that out. It escaped my notice. I'm going to update the first post in this thread to note the change and I'll change it in the code for the next release. By the way, there will be an update to SNAP after the new unRAID 5.0 version comes out.
January 4, 201115 yr I want to limit the visibility of the USB drives that I hot plug and share. Some of the data I backup onto the USB drives is not information I want to necessarily share. I added the line 'browseable = No" to the 'snap-xdrive-template" and when drives are plugged in they are mounted and shared but are hidden. I know this does not prevent someone from specifying the share directly, but if it is not browseable, this will make it more difficult. I have other limits on who can see what on my network. Queeg, is there an easy way to mount the drive buit not share it at all? I don't want to have to telnet and unshare it with a "snap.sh" command.

You could try add a hotplug AFTER_SHARE event to unshare which would leave the device mounted but not shared. I put an example in the code below which is in /boot/config/snap/snapEvents.sh and gets called from snap.sh. I can't promise it will work but I think it should. Look at the second post in this thread to read about events. case $EVENT in 'AFTER_MOUNT') echo "$0 $*" >> $SNAPHOME/snapEvents.log ;; 'AFTER_SHARE') echo "$0 $*" >> $SNAPHOME/snapEvents.log if [ -f $SNAPHOME/hotPlugAfterShareEvent.sh ] then $SNAPHOME/hotPlugAfterShareEvent.sh $* & else echo "$SNAPHOME/hotPlugAfterShareEvent.sh does not exist!" fi if [ "$SHARENAME" == "yoursharename" ] then $SNAPHOME/snap.sh -S $SHARENAME fi ;; 'HOTPLUG_IN')
January 4, 201115 yr I have not used SNAP yet, but a suggestion related to the above request. Could a command line parameter or something similar be added so that this setting could be remembered for a specific drive. perhaps an extra command option to the end of: snap.sh -a [serialnumber] [sharename] something like: snap.sh -a [serialnumber] [sharename] --notbrowseable or snap.sh -a [serialnumber] [sharename] --nb Something like the above should work
