  1. I would love to have multiple pools or another unraid license so I could setup the plots on unraid. I am almost running out of drive letters in windows right now lol. Plus selecting a single dir is a lot easier then 20+
  2. yeah, I did pretty much the same, had the parts laying around just not all in the same place. Tossed them together to get a few working systems. I need to get in gear and start re-plotting soon, have not had time to see if the forks have updated to the pooling plots yet.
  3. I refuse to use an HDD for the boot drive for the last ~10 years. I got my first SSD around 2008 and never looked back. I quickly upgraded every pc in the house to SSD's. It is amazing what it does even for an old system. I have an old laptop with a core 2 duo from 2006 that is still usable for basic web browsing etc with an SSD. With the stock HDD it lived in the closet for many years it was so slow.
  4. Lucky for me my home setup is just personal data, worst case I get some angry looks around the dinner table lol. As long as I have backups of all the data itself, it is not a big deal if it takes a day or 2 to get everything back up. I got out of IT a long time ago due to the stress, I kept up a lot better with that stuff then.
  5. It is but it is so much work 😪
  6. I will keep that in mind. When things go wrong I have always followed the start fresh approach. Too many times I would restore backups only for the same or new issues to pop up and then have to do it all over again.
  7. I used Ghost WAY back in the day, I use an open source program now, forgot the name. Never trusted the built in backup tools, lost a lot of data and time with the early versions of those and can't bring myself to try them again.
  8. I created a script to help setting up new windows installs about a decade ago and have been slowly adapting and adding to it. Has cut my install time to a fraction of what it used to be lol. If you current install is fine, there is always the option of cloning the drive as well.
  9. I did notice that as well, silicoin seems to pass a lot more filters then the others. Looks like I won 2 of them so far.
  10. I have mined 4500 chiagreen, says 5 days to win at this point. It is synced and farming is about all I know lol. I honestly don't even log into the farming machine except maybe once a day and then just to make sure it has not crashed.
  11. silicoin finally synced for me and seems to be farming. Although the netspace is now 200pb, so around a day to win it says.
  12. lol, yeah I hate having to stop the blockchains, restarting them takes forever. I tried to script opening them but sadly I can't find a way to start them from the command line and have them automatically start farming. They just sit at the select key screen.
  13. I have had this issue as well but tracked it to a memory issue. The memory usage of the container would grow until it caused the whole system to run out of memory and generally cause the system to crash. So I set some memory limits for the container to stop that but still, it seems to read the entire file into memory before opening the file for some reason. I have just given up opening archives in krusader and instead use windows on another system via SMB and they open up right away without an issue. Can also use the CLI archive tools to read the files without an issue.
  14. I just never could get behind burning SSD's for chia, didn't compute. With many parallel drives I was able to use normal hard drives to get 3TB/day of plots. With madmax I was able to greatly simplify things by using a 110gb ramdrive + HDD and get about 3.6tb/day. Plotting 100% in ram got me up to ~4tb/day. Showing that the drive speed really is not that much of a bottleneck if you optimize the rest of the system. I could even use an SSD in combo with the ramdrive and it would last 4x as long as plotting to the SSD exclusively. I would totally buy more ram over SSD's for plotting. It never wears out and is faster too boot. Plus you could resell it or use it for something else down the road vs killing an SSD's and it just being tossed in the garage.
  15. Yep, $20/tb for used drives is a "good deal" now days. Most I would even consider paying for used drives is $10/tb.
  16. Also connected a watt meter to my farmer, as expected the drives are pulling around ~200w, fans pull between 5w - 75w depending on the speed lol and everything else seems to use around ~40w. Tweaked the fan settings some and setup speed fan to keep the fans speed in check and save some power that way. I don't need them going 10k all the time, just during a few hours at the hottest part of the day.
  17. I think the new chia uses the madmax plotter (or parts of it) by default now, hence the speed increase. I think I saw that you can still make solo plots, the forks will update tot he portable plots sooner or later, figure I will give it a week or so and hopefully they will catch up.
  18. Mine too, I tried updating it earlier today but it didn't ever sync.
  19. Just can't bring myself to buy that small of drives anymore, would rather spend $14/tb and get a new 12tb disk back when that was a thing. I seriously considered getting some 10TB disks for $10/tb just before chia but passed on it when the 14tb popped up for $15/tb. Seeing as drives are going to stop getting bigger soon, I figure I could easily have these drives for the next ~10 years+ so not already having ~40k hours on them is worth it long term I think.
  20. Very nice that you added flax, any plans to add the other chia forks that are floating around as well? I would move to farming on Machinaris as well instead of just plotting if it did. As it is I am forced to use windows to farm so I can run all ~6 forks at this point. Chia is not really profitable so figure I will see if one of the forks becomes valuable at some point. Or since they all use the same basic interface, not sure if it is possible to create some kind of "universal config file" that can add other forks manually?
  21. Yeah, I would love 2 full backup copies but can't afford that many drives lol. I have my most important data backed up to another location though, everything else is technically replaceable, it just would not be fun to do it.
  22. yeah I could see that, I am sitting around 10-12gb of memory usage after mining for a few days it seems. Lucky for me I found an old 4770 mobo/cpu/memory at a garage sale for $3 since something didn't work. The mobo appears to be dead but it came with 32gb of ddr3 that found a nice new home. 😉
  23. FYI, you can pop any unraid drive into a linux system like ubuntu and the drives will work perfectly, even able to unlock encrypted drives. If you use BTRFS for the unraid drives there is winbtrfs on github that will allow you to mount them in windows as long as they are not encrypted. I have been using both of these options while moving drives around between plotters and farming machines. If it works though, run with it. Since I had to upgrade all my drives anyways, I was lucky enough to be able to match up my data and backup disks 1:1. So I simply sync each disk to it's respective backup (well, I will once the rest arrive anyways). This is also important for me as I handle all the organization of my data on the disks manually so I can keep files together to make restoring from data loss easier. Already had to deal with this once and it made life so much easier. In your case I would personally use 2x 4tb drives for each 8tb data drive and backup directly between them but that does take a bit more setup of course. So I understand why you do it that way. I will admit I have seen the archive option before but never messed with it or had a clue what it did lol.
