stuck at "Syncing File system..." on new USB setup?
🔺WARNING!🔺 I used the "renaming trick" when I had the same issue as OP. However, after a while, my drive became corrupted. This may never happen to your drive, but there is a possibility that this trick may result in some issues with the drive. If you use this trick, then make sure you made regular backups of your USB stick.

[6.10.2] Lost all plugins after shutdown & reboot to add new drive to server
The contents of the original Samsung USB flash drive is readable. However, I cannot copy it onto a new USB flash drive because the config folder is 50.1 GB and the new drive is only 8GB: The original Samsung USB flash drive is only 32 GB. It looks like the PLUGINS folder was corrupted? I tried copying everything except for the PLUGINS folder, but got read errors on these 13 files:

So, I should wipe the USB flash drive and use the creator app to make a fresh UNRAID bootable and build everything again?

PSA on SanDisk USBs
Just a warning, I bought this drive and now it went bad: 1. Samsung bar plus USA ---- https://amzn.to/32TtQyp Maybe, it's a counterfeit because I bought it from Amazon. I'm new to UNRAID and still in the process of getting everything set up, it's been about 11 days so far. It's probably a better idea to buy it directly from Samsung: https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/usb-flash-drives/usb-3-1-flash-drive-bar-plus-32gb-champagne-silver-muf-32be3-am/

[6.10.2] Lost all plugins after shutdown & reboot to add new drive to server
Hello! I did a graceful SHUTDOWN from the web app on my UNRAID server to add a new HDD. After rebooting the server back on, these things happened: All plugins missed from server. 3 of my shares have a yellow/orange ( !🔺) icon next to them. When I hover over the icon, it shows: SOME OR ALL FILES UNPROTECTED Any ideas? Diagnostics attached. media-unraid-diagnostics-20220604-1904.zip

Is it normal to see a red [FAIL] notification when you're building parity for the first time on a new array?
I'm using UNRAID for the first time and built my first array. I have 5 x 14 TB drives but had existing data on one of the drives. So first, I built an array of 4 x 14 TB disks. Then, I copied the data over to the array. Then, I added the 14 TB drive to the array as a parity drive. Then, UNRAID started doing the parity thing. This morning I got this message: Unraid Status: 03-06-2022 00:20 Notice [MEDIA-UNRAID] - array health report [FAIL] Array has 8 disks (including parity & cache) Is it normal to see a red [FAIL] notification when you're building parity for the first time on a new array? Also, does UNRAID automatically format the drive with the proper file system and stuff before it does parity?

[6.10.2] UNRAID threw some Yellow error messages?
Oh, the drive is DEV 4, not DISK 4. DEV 4 is an old ext HDD and I'm in the process of moving its data onto my new UNRAID array. I now noticed that the name does match the name of the old ext HDD: ST5000DM000-1FK178_W4J01PVY DISK 4 is a brand new drive in the array. When you said, "it's got 44k power on hours," that's when I considered looking at all of the drives currently plugged into my new UNRAID server and discovered the difference. Thank you for your help!

[6.10.2] UNRAID threw some Yellow error messages?
Should I be concerned about any of these? I think the last one is just a disk usage warning, but what about the first two? Unraid device dev4 SMART health [198]: 31-05-2022 05:36 Warning [MEDIA-UNRAID] - offline uncorrectable is 8 ST5000DM000-1FK178_W4J01PVY (dev4) Unraid device dev4 SMART health [197]: 31-05-2022 05:36 Warning [MEDIA-UNRAID] - current pending sector is 8 ST5000DM000-1FK178_W4J01PVY (dev4) Unraid Disk 2 disk utilization: 31-05-2022 05:14 Warning [MEDIA-UNRAID] - Disk 2 is high on usage (71%) WDC_WD140EDGZ-11B1PA0_Y6GYASMC (sdf) All 4 of my drives are brand new, recently shucked, and PreCleared. Diagnostics attached. Thank you!

[6.10.2] What is the difference between Use Cache pool types: Yes vs Prefer?
Hello, Under USE CACHE POOLS, it gives us these options: Yes indicates that all new files and subdirectories should be written to the Cache disk/pool, provided enough free space exists on the Cache disk/pool. If there is insufficient space on the Cache disk/pool, then new files and directories are created on the array. When the mover is invoked, files and subdirectories are transferred off the Cache disk/pool and onto the array. Prefer indicates that all new files and subdirectories should be written to the Cache disk/pool, provided enough free space exists on the Cache disk/pool. If there is insufficient space on the Cache disk/pool, then new files and directories are created on the array. When the mover is invoked, files and subdirectories are transferred off the array and onto the Cache disk/pool. How exactly does PREFER work? It seems if the Cache disk/pool is full and new files and directories are created on the array, then when would the mover ever transfer files and subdirectories off the array and onto the Cache disk/pool, since it's still full? Which method would one use if one wanted the most recent files and subdirectories to be on the Cache disk/pool until the mover is invoked? And why? Thank you!

Recommended controllers for Unraid
May an expert weigh in on if this one will work? LSI S2308 6Gbs PCI-E3.0 FW: P20 LSI 9207-8i IT Mode For ZFS FreeNAS unRAID US This seller offers 3 variants of the 9207-8i: $63.88 = LSI $49.88 = NEC $36.98 = IBM Free S/H for each Not sure what exactly the difference will be between LSI vs NEC vs IBM? Maybe different quality manufacturing and components? The LSI is almost 2x the cost of the IBM. Maybe an engineer in this field can weigh in? The seller also has packages with 2 included 8087 SATA Cables for $10 more. This model seems like the best candidate according to this page: Speed tested here:

Krusader Transfer Window
Try minimizing the main Krusader window. When you perform a file action, the action window appears on top, but when you click on the main Krusader window, that puts it on top. Minimize and it's probably behind it.

Dynamix File Manager
Dumb question, how do we open it? When I hover over the icon, it's not a button like the other installed plugins

Are these shares required: appdata, domains, ios, system?
I'm using UNRAID to create storage for Plex. I'm only storing movies and TV shows. When I formatted the disks in my array, UNRAID automatically created these shares: appdata domains isos system Are they required? I want to keep my UNRAID as simple and stable as possible.

Advice on best practice for migrating existing data to new array.
Hello! I have 5 x 14 TB HDD's that I would like to start using with UNRAID. However, one of the 14 TB HDD's has data on it. I'm trying to figure out the best way to migrate the data onto UNRAID. Which plan is better? PLAN A: Create array with 4 HDD's Copy data from 5th HDD to new array Preclear 5th HDD Add 5th HDD to new array as parity drive PLAN B: Create array with 3 HDD's Add 4th HDD to new array as parity drive Copy data from 5th HDD to new array Preclear 5th HDD Add 5th HDD to new array to increase array size PLAN C : Something else?

[6.10.1] New UNRAID Set Up - Drives appear in UNASSIGNED DEVICES but do not show up in PRECLEAR?
Hello, I'm setting up a new UNRAID and I'm new to this. I've searched Google and the forums but couldn't find a solution for this. My devices show up and appear just fine / working in the MAIN > UNASSIGNED DEVICES section. However, they do not appear / not showing up in the UNASSIGNED DEVICES PRECLEAR plugin? This is a fresh install, so I have no arrays set up. These are brand new, shucked drives. Any ideas?

stuck at "Syncing File system..." on new USB setup?
I was having this same issue on my Alienware M17xR4 laptop. I tried the USB 3.0 ports and 2.0 port and it still got stuck. When the Creator gets stuck, open up a Windows Explorer window and rename the device to "UNRAID". It worked flawless after thank. The USB drive I'm using is a Samsung BAR Plus 32GB.

PSA on SanDisk USBs
I'm using a Samsung BAR Plus 32GB. How long does it take to create the bootable USB? Mine seems to be taking forever... stuck on: I originally was using a SanDisk 8GB USB 2.0 and it was done in only a few minutes. SOLVED:

The USB drive thread?
Thanks ChatNoir! I just used an old SanDisk Glide 8GB and it booted just fine. But, I'll buy the Samsung BAR Plus USB 3.1 to be on the safe side. Kind of odd that it's the top recommended model since I've seen several references recommend the use of USB 2.0 flash drives. Do we stick these in the USB 3.x ports or the USB 2.0 ports or does it not matter? Thank you!

First time set up UNRAID - it's asking for username and password?
Is there a default username and password that we have to use for first time set up? Wiki doesn't help with this: https://wiki.unraid.net/UnRAID_6_4/Getting_Started It says: Mine isn't doing that? It asks for username and password?
