  1. Yeah I'm running the Cooler Master 590 that has a dedicated fan to blow air across the Hard Drives. It forces air into the case. I do monitor the drives and cpu now and then just to trend it some. So far so good. I do plan on picking up another cage sometime so I could move that top drive that is sitting in the 3.5 adapter and of course that will add another fan and add additional air into the case. Will I eventually need another fan up top not sure as of yet, but as I add more I'm sure I'll continue to trend and see if flipping the PSU is needed, but for now I'm doing ok.

I think the only thing I ever hear from this machine is the CPU fan. I thought about installing a passive cooler so its silent, then I thought nah its not that loud, but if I did want a quiter fan I would, but its in my office and my rack makes more noise than this thing ever will.  ;D

Heres the photos hosting via Image Shack. I'm trying not to well take over this thread so I made them small and clickable. ;)

  2. Yeah I used to control my Xbmc setup with my phone, but then later realized that keeping it on wifi really at the batteries and of course the wife couldn't rely on the fact that my phone was available. However it was really handy when my boy would come to me in another room and I could change things for him without even looking at the TV.

I have the Xbmc and the Roku device for my kids netflix movies. I know they both support tcp/ip controls, which would be rather nifty on that remote your talking about.

  3. I have the same system that Rajahal recommended. Its not speedy because I'm running WD green drives, but honestly I only write to it now and then, but most of the time I do read off it for my HTPC and I've had 3 or 4 connections going at the same time and it hasn't skipped a beat yet.

Its super quite and other than a glowing case I forget half the time its even in my office. I have 4 wired connections that can connect to it at any time as well as 4 wireless connections and so far I haven't seen it glitch once all over Gigabit wired and wireless G and N.

For me the speed of writing was not the biggest deal. For me lower power, silence and expandability. I wanted a system that would more or less sit there and answer when I asked it to. I didn't want to baby sit a loud power using machine that reminded me hey I'm here.

  4. I completely agree with "Both" of you. In my case the air is of decent temperature and I wanted the air entering the case to stay so it could be used across the components opposed to a negative pressure and rely solely on the rear exhaust to cool everything.

I'm sure if my case was full of drives it would be different, but for now I'm completely happy and Right/Wrong/In different Rajahal was spot on piecing my machine together in the Budget build. It works great and you can't even here it when its there or when a drive spins up with those WD Green drives.

  5. But that ASROCK comes with a remote that works.

There are just a few steps and it's up and running.

Only the newer AsRocks come with remotes and a IR sensor. Mine which is one of the originals did not come with a remote or IR sensor. ;) The newer ones had some issues with Linux because of the drivers, but they have since have been addressed.

So basically I made it work. I never really do anything other than turn on the power button to it so I've never taken the time to actually put the Dongle in a nice spot. Eventually when I replace my 37" LCD with a 60-65 I plan on mounting the sensor under the TV because its only natural to point at the TV than down to the left.

  6. I've tried:

X360 wireless controller -  A pain, because you have to hold down the connect button and wait for the connection before you press pause or anything

    iPhone app - Broken, unsupported...avoid!

Logitech wireless mini keyboard - Don't like; no backlit means the keys are impossible to see, mouse is too sensitive

I still need to find a good remote...

Thats why I posted up above my solution. Use the old school Xbox remote and the dongle and a USB to dongle converter. It works perfectly. Once your drivers are installed and the little app that makes it work, it just works.

Clickable Video of it in action. I'm not a camera man by any means so sorry for the crappy quality. It at least shows how it works. Not shown in the video is the quick response because I had an issue pointing, filming and actually paying attention to what I was doing. LOL

  7. Yeah the reason I went with the way it was supposed to be installed I noticed that when I only had the lower fan on and running air would enter the case and be sucked right out the back. There wasn't a chance for air to flow in and rise up so the upper fan could pull it out.

I'm sure when I throw in my drives or install a few more front fans the upper fan that is pulling air out would either need another top fan to exhaust.

Right now my CPU is running 20-21C and my drives average 23-30C.

Yeah those budget builds are an awesome guide to building a machine. I knew that I would be limited by the Board and the additional break out cards, but honestly I don't plan on having14+ drives. I think right now I'm good at the 6 drive limit and I'll keep an eye out for a good deal on the break out cards. Since I'm not in a rush or anything. ;)

  8. Yeah, but my request for the bookmark mod is a 5minute mod if even that and honestly its a rather useful tool, but none the less........

Even thou this area is called Forum Feedback.  ;D

  9. Its one of the Recommended Budget builds. I'm really happy with it as of now.

    Cooler Master 590 Case

    AMD 2.7ghz

    BioStar Mobo

    2gig ram

    Corsair 400watt PSU

    2TB WD Parity green

    1.5TB WD green

    1.5TB WD green

    500GB WD green

    500GB WD green

I went with some locking Sata cables from Monoprice.com I decided to use all black for data, blue for cache and red for parity. Not shown in this photo is I removed the Cache drive and went with just all data.

I tried to tuck everything and keep it as simple and clean as possible. I used the 3.5 drive mount at the top and brought it down low. I noticed that the temp went from 40degrees to around 30 just by moving it. I'm guessing its feeling the cooler air down low since Im not running additional fans other than what came with the unit. I plan on swaping out the 500's with a single 1.5TB or 2TB

  10. I don't recall the brand, but I went to my local hardware store and they had some hard plasic furniture moving carts that are I'd guess 18"x24" with nice full swivle casters on them for 10 bucks.

  11. I was kinda thinking the way this forum works. You guys can't see it, but in the Admin panel you have your regular tabs and then there is a tab called Modifications. Normally all the settings of additonal plugins aka packages go on that tab. I kinda like it that way because it leaves the core stuff alone and you know if you installed a package it normally goes there and it does not conflict at all with the core system.

Under that of course when you click on it there are more tabs kinda like this.

    Misc | Site Map | Glossary |

So when you enter the Modifications area they have more or less buttons you click which will open up the tabs or link to the page that has the settings for that particuar package. So ideally speaking all you would in a matter of words be doing is creating a link on the Modifications page that way it that particular page isn't long as heck full of stuff.

I don't see why the settings couldn't all be on that page in a sub section, but thats not how they do it.

  12. I think it would be nice. I know Transformers is in my /Movies Share, but I have zero clue to which disk. ;)

Well I can find it the old fashion way of looking in my disks, but it would be nice to have a visual
