  1. Hi I was thinking about the different Usb keys Unraider use. Does a metal or plastic case make any difference (do they get hot). The size of memory eg 8gb plus (do add ons mean you need 32gb+ as a sweet spot). Are the card readers still an option or mainly blacklisted because no guid for Tom to use. Are mounting then on m/b or inside cases a better option. If I get some feedback, I might do a pole then, this might be useful for anybody that needs a usb newbie or experienced brand & type, unit size, memory size, internal or ext mounted.
  2. hi everytime I fire up an unraid server & just after I have done my adding etc. I use greenshot to take a snapshot of the main menu with all drives I save that on my pc on a couple of different drives. go to ninite to down free greenshot. Steve
  3. I would consider removing that cache drive & try to get your settings off it another way. but replace the cache with another & see what it does. that way nothing may be lost.
  4. I suggest you back up your usb before you do anything. 4.7 it is about 56mb in size. 4.7 was there for a long time & download what tom puts up & make up my mind when I want to upgrade. I used 4.7 for most of my early days on unraid. then went to the 5betas for bigger hdd capacity. been on 5.05 for a while now looking at uping to 5.06 & considering being my 3rd server on a V6. do you have a spare key licence $30 to an extra one before it goes (if still available ask tom).
  5. Hi Guys, I have finally seen some prices about the WD red 6tb about $399 in Australia. I would love to consider building a box around say 4 6tb hdd. so a parity check for a 2tb is around 8hr & a 4tb is about 16hr. so 6tb I saw somebody quote about 60hrs is that right or just for test before using. if that is the case then a ups would be a high pirioty for it. Steve
  6. that almost looks like my unset issue on my 1stower. I could read/copied the files but they all said 0kb.
  7. here is a pdf that is unset. if you put it on a server it will be 0kb & unset. I copied & moved some from 1 server to the other "file ok but missing info" VETERAN_MEN’S_FINALS_RESULTS.pdf
  8. I have just rebooted & here it is I have tried to clear the spare drive. syslog.zip
  9. i have run a parity check with both drives & with the rebulit 2tb it is still unset or saying 0b for some files
  10. this folder is 20gb but unraid is saying its 0b. I have a few files on the server like this. I appear to be able to read & copy them but they do come up as stat see early screen pic
  11. update after trying to rebuild the original disk 3 1.5tb. there was 152K errors then after a finish & a refresh no disk3. there are still unset files that I can reads & access.
  12. as is with the old disk 3 & a new config so far. it will be interesting to see what is unset after this.
  13. this what it was after I replace disk 3, I have swapped back disk 3 for the spare & doing a new config now. I have copied off a few unset files & deleted some to see what I can see. it is hard to see what is unset because it doesn't tie it to any disks. the files appear to still be there.
  14. gents, I was copying a 26gb folder to my classic movies it appeared to finish. I believe I clicked on the internet "http://1stower/Main" and noticed it was doing a parity check 5-7% thru. I wanted to know that if any drives had dropped out or failed so I rebooted & drive 3 was missing completely, so I added my spare for a rebuild. then after that was completed & ok I did a prarity check. I still have the dropped out disk so I might put that back & do a new config to see what happens.
  15. Hi I was busy copying a 26gb folder to my 1stower, when after it appeared to finish copying, it started its own parity check. part of the way thru I stopped it & after a reboot disk had dropped off. I attached the the spare drive for a rebuild then after that I did a parity check. now I have some data that is unset (but I can view, access & copy off) if deleted it goes away but comes back if I copy back. it reminds of the errors when you get "reiserfsck --rebuild-tree"

  17. Hi guys, I have read this thread with interest & I have basically done this already. I am at a point I only wanting to have Parity & 13 disks, I have rethought my desire to build a 24 drive server. both servers are now on 14 total (1stower with a 4tb several 2 & 1.5, while stower02 is all 2tb). I bought numerous 2 & 4 way sata cards pci & pci e. but I found long ago on number 2 that at I stage I added a 15 drive I had issues (6 sata on mb & 8 on supermicro card) without putting anything on that drive I wanted to scale back asap. as I usually back my usb before & after doing something. I removed the number 15 & reset my usb to the before state then did a parity check. it was a little tricky but reduced the array by 1 drive in the end. I have had up to 19 (4-5 warm spares) in stower02, I have now disconnected all spares & will only add them when I need to replace drives. (see toms gallery redlaws modified from a duplicating case that I could not mount a m/b in until I mounted a m/b tray in it, now the tray extends 50mm from the rear, I can mount 5 4:3 coolermaster drive bays in there but on my 1stower I figured out how to mount 10 drives into 2.5 bays plus add 2 fans in front of them). I done a New configuration after 2 drives had reiserfsck --rebuild-tree errors I paniced & wanted then out incase they failed (I would now rebuild them in the array should be better for recovery & less file errors). just my 2 cents worth Steve from Australia
  18. did you have another usb with unraid on it. I would consider putting V5.05 on it & try in your sever & add another disk as a parity & do a new config. that way you still have your old parity & 4. usb.
  19. when I had 2 disk have some errors & wanted a reiserfsck --rebuild-tree issues. I had 3 word documents from my daughter backup all say they where 1.?PB in size. I could not open, copy or delete them. once I had rescued everything else of that drive. I formatted the drive as a new disk by itself
  20. try the usb in your pc & check that it is similar to a usb backup. otherwise go into bios to check that usb is the 1st drive it boots to
  21. Reiserfsck --rebuild-tree will more than likely fix those drives reiserfsck.pdf reiserfsck_--rebuild-tree_and_when_backup_saves_your_life.pdf
  22. yes that is correct with new system for parity. I have done this (because 2 disks had Reiserfsck --rebuild-tree errors), I ended up pulling those 2 out to rebuild a good parity. this was mainly because I could not find much info about Reiserfsck --rebuild-tree at the time. then on a basic system rebuilt the Reiserfsck --rebuild-tree to see what I could get back. I think I would had been better to rebuild them in the 14 drive system, but if another drive went faulty then 3 disk of data could had been lost.
