  1. as far as the smart report I been running each hard drive on a septrate computer. For the SMART reports. I will boot the server into UBUNTU desktop and run the SMART reports from there and get back with yaw on that. Still though this is annoying on so many issues. I have already lost about 6TB worth of data.
  2. well the drives that I am having the most issues from is the drives connected to my addon (JBOD) card.
  3. This is starting to get really annoying. Continous red balls and hard drives randomly gone or not reading. Missing files now. What the heck is going on? I have precleared the drives and ran smart reports on the drives countless number of times and NO issues with the physical drives. SO before I loose any more data. What the heck do I do to fix this. I guess I need to actually save the log file.. I am just irratitated because I had built this server back in July and still haven't been able to get some files on it and use it with out any issues. It is on its own PSU now as well. here is the log https://lilnetwork.com/download/nas/LOG.txt
  4. Update: I had to do a hard shutdown and rebooted and everything is working now.. The only difference between the base OS version and mine is PRO and i changed the default spin down time to 4 hours.
  5. I can access the //tower domain and it shows all drives as green. However if i try to access any the files it will say the file is invalid. I logged on the iKVM and had seen this.. and now I cannot access the //tower domain to gain the log files
  6. Besides if that case is like the full tower the front fans should already have the air going from outside to inside the case. Also there is a "filter" on the front of the case.
  7. there is no such thing as overkill
  8. take a look at this artical! http://www.geek.com/chips/new-asrock-motherboard-has-18-sata-ports-so-you-can-become-a-storage-god-1606552/ Quote-Geek.com
  9. All depends on how deep your pockets are in reality. Now as far as the mobo and nic card. I know that SuperMicro has other boards out there that has more than 2 ethernet ports. I will get back with you on seeing everything you have configured.
  10. I have a IBM ServeRAID M1015. It has NOT been flashed over to IT mode. The card is located in Texas - USA. Prices are with Small Flat Rate Box shipping included. $98.75 - USA $113.25 - Canada $117.25 - International Ended up getting the card and not using it.
  11. I was looking at my setup and RDM is in the settings. It is grayed out on mine because the server is running. However you can also create a full datastore for that drive and assign it directly to the VM of your choosing.
  12. depends on the controller and setup. If set to JBOD you can pass and ports to a selected VM. Same with Motherboard ports/USBs/NICs etc. ESXI lets you do pretty much anything!
  13. I would say you could go with the WD Green drives. Ultimatly total cost would probably be cheaper via the usb rout due to all you need is the drives. Most USB drives will spin down while not in use. All really depends on Cost. I had used a Raspberry Pi as a NAS for quite a few years with USB hard drives.
  14. sounds like something in either BIOS or under the settings of the card that i think is CTRL+S when its booting. However if you are able to see the connected drives in unRaid then personally I would not be worrying.
  15. really nice and clean setup. I really like the Noctua fans. They are on the pricey side of things but very nice non the less! Although I would say with you running ESXI if you could put more ram.(max out the mobo) if you can. I notice on my server I am ESXI server that the VMs take more ram then Cpu power. ESXI server Dell poweredge 1900 CPU: 2 - Xeon 2.33 Quad Core Ram: 16 Gigs HDs: 3 - 150gb hard drives, 1 1TB WD Black, 1 1TB hot swap
  16. Okay it can handle the Radeon R9 290X but what about the Radeon R9 295x2? Unless it will then I am still screwed on updating. I like my 295x2..
  17. Well I got a Raspberry Pi laying around.. Sooo I think I will create an internal HTML5 website for my movies.
  18. The Corsair HX850 I believe they did make a modular version of this as well. However I would stick with a Corsair PSU. I've been running them for years and some of them I've ran damn near the max watts that it supplied and never had any issues with them overheating or anything O and that was there CX series PSUs Now what would I choose. Well I got a AX760 in my NAS and a AX1200i in my main computer. Sooooo
  19. Not so much to drag up an old topic. But I just got a chromecast my self and was wondering on whatever came of this. Is there a good app that i can use to stream my videos that i got my on server to my chromecast?
  20. [uPDATE] as of 10/4/2014 22:04 I had put back in my SuperMicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 card and made sure all my drives are XFS file format. No issues with transferring files now and so far no issues on red-balling! Why does it appear that my RAM is being sucked down? I have 32Gigs of RAM.(Why do I have that much you ask. Because I can! ) This is in the middle of transferring a file folder as well. From a windows machine to my nas. Folder size 1.32TB Speed:113MB/second
  21. What I am asking is for someone to set it up for me. I can give you temporarily access to the server. Via remote desktop.
