  1. Mover will not move anything that is in a share set to "cache only" so it sounds like the share that contains TV is not set to "cache only". If you did not specifically create a share for this then that would also explain why it gets moved.
  2. I just replaced a 2TB parity that was still good with a 3TB parity in my system that only has 1 and 2 TB data drives in it now. I did this because if I ever need to replace a data drive I will want to replace with a 3 TB drive and if I didn't already have a 3TB parity I would be looking at buying 2 new drives at once. Since my old parity was still good I then replaced one of my 1TB data drives with my old 2TB parity drive so I increased my data capacity by 1TB anyway. This whole process took several days as you can imagine.
  3. If you use the preclear script then the new disk can be prepared for unRAID while keeping the rest of the array and the webgui accessible.
  4. I had even put the -? output in a file so I could study it. Don't know how I missed that option. Post-read 2% complete in <18 minutes, so about 15 hours to go instead of 30. Thanks
  5. Thanks. I'll keep that in mind for next time. Finished writing zeros and am now on the post-read, 41+ hours so far. I think 30+ of that was all pre-read so I guess I can expect another 30+ for post-read. Doesn't seem to be an option to let me start over and only do post-read using the larger -b, but I guess I will just count it as further burn-in/testing.
  6. Well I am currently preclearing the disk again using preclear_disk.sh -w 65536 -r 65536 -b 200 /dev/sdX and it took more than 24 hours just for the pre-read. Now it is writing zeros (11% done). Interestingly, this step seems to be going a lot faster than the pre-read. I did not disable any of my plugins so we'll see if it crashes again but so far I can still get to the webgui. Here is fdisk -l output: Disk /dev/sde: 3000.6 GB, 3000592982016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 364801 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 4096 bytes / 4096 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00000000 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sde1 1 267350 2147483647+ 0 Empty Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary. Partition 1 does not start on physical sector boundary. I guess with 16GB anything is possible.
  7. There was a discussion over on another thread about running out of memory while running preclear. This happened to me yesterday. It is my first time trying preclear on a 3TB disk. I think it probably finished the pre-read but sometime later the webgui was unresponsive. I couldn't get powerdown to finish until I killed dd. After rebooting everything seems fine so I started preclear again using the parameters in Joe L.'s post above but it is only 35% finished with pre-read after nearly 12 hours. I am sure the real problem is all the plugins I had running. I have 4GB memory. If I disable my plugins should I be able to preclear 3TB using the default parameters so I can get this done sooner? Are other users able to preclear 3TB using the defaults without running out of memory?
  8. When I switched from Cablevision to UVerse I just kept my local network on my own router and just used the UVerse router for WAN to my router. This keeps more things under my control. Also, my router (WNDR3700) is gigabit LAN, dual-band 300mbps WLAN, with guest network on both bands so it is better than the UVerse router anyway. For a while I let the UVerse router provide an additional guest wireless but decided not to clutter up the airwaves and just disabled it. The one drawback to this is that I have to do my Port Forwarding on both routers.
  9. Would a swap file help with this? I have 4GB memory and don't usually run with a swap file because creating it seems to be one of the longest parts of boot time. But it might be worth it for those rare occasions when I need to do a preclear.
  10. I have "email frequency" set to 1440 minutes (1 day). This sends me an OK status email only once a day, but I still get an email anytime something changes on the server, such as going over temp, stopping the array, etc. So I think you just need to increase email frequency to a larger value and you will still get the critical ones immediately. I think I may have read that you can set it to zero if you don't want any OK status emails.
  11. I have some folders and files which originally came from Windows with embedded spaces in the names and when I use ls to see them on unRAID through telnet they are always shown with \ preceding the space so I think the \ is just escaping the embedded space.

    Step by Step

Another good tool for picking parts is PCPartPicker. Might seem a little overwhelming at first, and it doesn't specifically address unRAID compatibility, but it will help you check whether your selected CPU, mobo, memory are compatible, let you compare specs and prices between components and also check prices from different sources.
  13. I have found another workaround besides using a different web browser. Use a different web server! If you are running SimpleFeatures webserver, put a page on that web that redirects to your headphones page. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>Headphones</title> <meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0;url=http://10.0.0.11:8084/home"></HEAD> <BODY> Redirecting to Headphones </BODY> </HTML> Where I have url=http://10.0.0.11:8084/home put whatever url you have for your headphones setup. Then you can just bookmark the redirect page.
  14. 8080 is usually the unMenu port which won't work if you have booted without addons. Try just the ipaddress (which will use the default port 80)
  15. Don't know if this is the same badblocks, but this man page shows -w writes 0xaa, 0x55, 0xff, 0x00 but -t lets you specify the bits so maybe you could do -t for 0xaa, 0x55, 0xff but let preclear do the final 0x00 or something like that.
  16. My thought would be to put the original drive back in disk 2 and then see if I could get the red ball to go away on disk 5. unRAID is not going to do a drive upgrade with an invalid configuration anyway. Maybe if you could get to that point you would just have invalid parity and all your data would be intact. Like I said, wait on a reply from someone who knows what they are talking about better than me.
  17. Maybe the parity check was making a fan run and it was the source of the noise? Fans are usually the source of the louder noises in my experience.
  18. Had my first monthly parity check after upgrading from 4.7 last night. Was pleasantly surprised to find that it was just finishing when I got up this morning. With 4.7 it had never finished before I had to leave for work. Don't have any exact numbers but probably 8-9 hours under 4.7 and now 6.5 hours on 5rc8a. No hardware changes. Loving all the plugins.
  19. Might just be a loose cable on the red ball. Check that and wait for further instructions from someone with more posts than I have.
  20. Or you may be able to figure it out while the parity check is still going on with the "screwdriver ear". Put the handle of a screwdriver in your ear and the point of the screwdriver on each drive. The source of the noise should be apparent.
  21. I did have this working when I was on 4.7 with unMenu but I don't remember the details. Now I am on 5.0rc8a with SimpleFeatures and I am using the mail setup in SimpleFeatures instead of unMenu and that is working for me. Have you tried SimpleFeatures?
  22. Happened to me too on Chrome but thanks to this thread I already knew the fix. Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk 2

    How much UPS?

Yes that is how it works and I am running Windows 7 on the PC. apcupsd has a system tray notifier on the PC and it tells me when unRAID signals a change with the UPS. Haven't tested it with S3 yet.

    How much UPS?

Have not tried this with non APC UPS but I can confirm that master/slave works. I have the UPS data connected to my unRAID box and my PC is also running apcupsd but it is set to get the data over the network from unRAID (router is also on the UPS).
