  1. So I have a line on a cheap Zotac GTX 650 ti amp! edition card from a buddy. Can't seem to find any threads about OSX compatibility. I know I should be looking at AMD but this would be a cheap stop-gap.
  2. Do you have any links to more information regarding cluster VMs?
  3. Thanks! I'll have to look into the cluster approach, but this info certainly gets me heading in the right direction for my initial dabbling!
  4. Well I just looked into that and you may be right. I can re-think my plans and make a workstation work at the server location. I'm still unclear as to what to look for in a video card for this application though.
  5. I'm not familiar with that bit. Is that to do with the GPU acceleration? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. Final Cut Pro. I won't be connecting a monitor directly to the server but instead using Splashtop or some equivalent most likely.
  7. I'm looking to try my hand at setting up an editing VM with OSX. Trouble is I've not been paying much attention to hardware lately and have never really understood GPU specs. Add to this the limited space in my chasis for a GPU and I'm not sure what to be looking at. I'm hoping for advice on what GPU would be sufficient for decent performance in a small form factor. I'm running on a SuperMicro MBD-X10SLL-F-O mobo w/ a Xeon E3-1246 v3. The trouble is due to the dual Norco 5x3 mounted in the front that cut my real estated down. Basically, what is the minimum level of performance I should be looking at and which specs are most important? I can then try to compare workstation GPUs or other small FF options to see if this is even viable. Or should I really just be shopping for a new tower that can accommodate the Norcos and a full-size desktop GPU?
  8. I'm looking for a guide to get Trakt scrobbler installed and running and I am using the Binhex-Plexpass docker. Any links to such or is it not possible? **EDIT** Nevermind. I was overthinking it. I copied the trakt.tv bundle into the Plex plugin folder on AppData, restarted Plex Docker and it showed up in Plex WebUI under Channels for configuration. Derp.
  9. I've started toying around with VMs and have some newbishness to sort out... What is the best/easiest way to connect to the VMs remotely? I have a Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa VM at the moment, but will be experimenting with other distros, as well as Windows and/or OSX at some point. I have 2 other Windows 10 PCs that I might connect from, but primarily would like to use either a Linux laptop or my Chromebook as "terminals". I can use the native VNC viewer from unRaid, but this does not scale with the remote display so it's pretty much unusable aside from initial configuration after OS install. I'd like to have a full desktop experience similar to that of Windows RDP. I've tried simply using Windows RDP and ChromeRDP, but neither will connect. I have the VM configured in Bridge mode and it is getting an IP from my router. ALL PCs are on the same network segment using the same router. Any tips/links/guides will be much appreciated!
  10. Can ping everything from the VM also. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. Hmm. I cannot ping the VM ip, from the chromebook. I can ping Win10 machines.?? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. I've assigned a static ip to the VM. I've tried connecting to that as well as the main server ip. Also tried both with VNC port appended. Chromebook is also static within the same range DHCP from my router on everything. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. I'm running unRaid v6.1.3 and have just set up a Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.3 VM. I've set the Bridge Mode to Public (Br0). I've used the native unRaid VNC to connect and update the OS & drivers in the VM. I"ve also enabled remote connection via Desktop Sharing withing the Mint VM. Right now the only way I'm able to connect to the VM is via the native unRaid VNC remote. Tried RDP from 2 different Win10 desktops on the network. I'm trying on my HP Chromebook via ChromeRDP and VNC Viewer for Chrome. All attempts result in errors stating unable to connect. Ideally the Chromebook will be my default terminal for accessing VMs running on my unRaid server. I also want the ability to connect from any other PC on my network (hence the Public bridge). I"m a newb to both VMs and Linux Mint so I could be overlooking a rudimentary setting on either end. What am I overlooking?
  14. So it seems like Windows Credential Manager was only a temporary fix. Tried to access my shares again today and ran in to the same song and dance. Can someone explain in complete Noob terms how SMB is supposed to function? Previously, with unRaid v4.7 and Windows 10, the Tower was automatically detected in Windows File Explorer and all shares were accessible all the time using the ROOT credentials (entered when initially set up, and never re-prompted). Now, with v6 and still Windows 10 (same PC(s)), the Tower does not show at all under File Explorer "Network" devices list, and I am seemingly randomly running into this credentialing loop. What is the ideal setup so I don't have to mess with the Credential Manager and manually type the address into File Explorer every time I want to copy files to my shares? Thanks. FYI: unRaid Tower is and has always been Local Master.
  15. The Control Panel tip worked, thanks!. I had several "generic" credentials saved for both the host name and IP. Deleted all but one and made sure that password was correct and voila. On a side note: I for some reason have my media shares set to "Secure". Is there any benefit to this over "Public" considering I am the only user on my network? I have my backup/image shares set to Private.
  16. So I recently upgraded both my server hardware and my OS. I moved from v4.7 to the latest v6 release. I couldn't be happier in general. However, I've noticed that now the server no longer shows in the "Network" locations in Windows 10. Also: if I manually point the Explorer window to the tower (via host name or IP), I am more often than not prompted for credentials. I have to repeatedly attempt to authenticate, using either ROOT or my normal user account. It seems to randomly accept the credentials eventually. I cannot determine what has changed that would prompt this behaviour. I previously had a user account that authenticated into the shares automatically, without ever prompting for credentials. I was also always able to find the server's host name in the list of network locations in Windows Explorer, even pin it to the "Quick Access" or map drives, etc. When I performed the upgrade from v4.7, I ran the "New Permisssions" script as instructed but this is still a problem. I'm hoping this is a newb mistake or my simply not understanding permissions either in unRaid v6 or in Windows. PS>> I'll also note that periodically, after finally being able to authenticate and view the shares and sub folders, I seem to only have READ access as I'm unable to copy any files to the array via Windows. This was resolved by creating yet another user and manually specifying READ/WRITE permissions for all of my shares, despite my prior user already having the exact same permissions in unRaid.
  17. Thanks folks! This lines up with what my coworkers were telling. Pretty much that I was veering into tinfoil hat territory out of ignorance. I like the read-only media share mapping idea and will probably go that route.
  18. Still having trouble nailing down some kind of guide/best practice for configuring unRaid internet access. Do I need to worry about extra router firewall rules or some kind of anti-virus for unRaid?
  19. Yes, did that last night. Ran a Parity check overnight and all was well. Ran "New Permissions" this a.m. and am now fully operational on 6.1.3.
  20. Parts ordered! Came to just under $700 shipped (I held off on the 4TB WD Red until after the internal swap). Should be here beginning of next week! One last question: I'm under the assumption that swapping out the internals will not affect my unRaid configuration, that I will simply be able to boot right back in normally once I've configured the new BIOS. I thought that I read somewhere a ways back that the specific port mappings for the SATA drives will adjust automatically under v6. Is this correct? Thanks so much for all the help!
  21. Are there any guides/tips/best practice threads that I can be directed to? A quick search turned up a lot of internet access troubleshooting threads, but not any general how-to's or "things to avoid" , etc. Or am I being paranoid? Does running PLEX from within a Docker on my unRaid box present any more or less security risk than running it on another Windows PC and using unRaid as the library? Sorry for the newbishness here, but network security is foreign to me beyond basic Windows anti-malware/AV.
  22. I will have to read up extensively on this. My router also has direct support for VPN (Ubiquiti EdgeMax EdgeRouter LITE).
  23. So I've just moved to v6.1.3 from v4.7. I'm excited to upgrade my internals and start leveraging the power of v6 as a more robust server (consolidated PLEX, for starters). My big concern is overall internet security, as I'm coming from v4.7 where it was strongly advised to NEVER expose unRaid to the internet. I was solely using it as an internal file server, which fed my PLEX server running on a separate Windows system. [*]What security measures (if any) are built-in to v6 and need configured? [*]What precautions do I need to take at the router level (i.e. Firewall rules, port mappings, MAC filters, etc.) [*]Is it possible/advisable to allow remote administration from outside my local network? [*]Overall, how secure/insecure is it to allow my unRaid access (i.e. remote access to my PLEX for friends/family, etc.)
  24. Awesome. I'm hoping to pull the trigger on this build in the next day or two. I just completed my upgrade to v6 on my current setup and it seems to have gone without a hitch. Any potential compatibility issues with my AOC-SASLP-MV8?
  25. That's odd. I picked it from PCPP after filtering for ECC, and the details screen there also shows "ECC = Yes". I'll have to lookup the part # to be sure.
