Plex Media Server

Featured Replies

if it's installed, you should see "PMS Update" in the settings section of the unRaid WebGui. (http://tower/Settings/plexupdater)

remember, to install a plugin, you need to put the .plg file inside /boot/config/plugins and restart the server (or run installplg /boot/config/plugins/NAMEOFTHEPLUGIN.plg)

also make sure, you downloaded the plg file correctly. rightclick the link i posted -> save as...

Thanks!  The button is there now after the reboot.  I already have the current version so I won't be able to test it until there is a new release.

Thanks again!

Benni, thanks for this, can you possibly put it on Influencers github as well, with his permission?

since at the moment, this is a one of the plugins i maintain myself, you can find it on my own github (see my signature). there are several other plugins, too.

i'm working on a way to install the plugins easier, no matter in which github repository they may be.

I just migrated to PMS for Unraid from running on my Mac Mini (HTPC).  It seems to work well, but I do have a slight issue.  When browsing my movies, the cover images used to show up instantly.  Now there is a lag while the images load.  My Unraid box is a Supermicro - X7SPA-HF-D525 with Atom 1.8 Ghz processor.  Would upgrading the motherboard and processor fix this lag?  How is the loading of images on everyone else's builds?

the atom is a bit weak. but my first guess would be, that the (new) unraid installation still has to create all the thumbnails. scroll around a bit, let plex do its magic and try, if the pictures are now loaded faster.

Help:

I have Unraid 5 RC and have sickbeard, sabnzbd, and couchpotato all running fine.  I can't get PlexMedia Server to work correctly.  It installs fine and I am able to configure it to use my cache only share /mnt/cache/apps/plex .  But when I use my windows client to connect I get "Waiting on response" message as I try to add channels or view them.  I hard coded the IP address to the unraid box, but still no luck.

I did change the name of the server from tower to nas, could it be a IP issue?  Is IPV6 enabled by default on unraid like windows (read you should turn that off)?

Any help would be great.

David

there are a lot of channels, that don't work on a linux media server. (all channels, that require flash or silverlight)

your media sections are working?

Not sure what you mean...to be honest I am new to plex..  I have been running xbmc on my HTPC without any issues. I just wanted to try it out.

I will try it more tonight and report back.

Are you able to access the management page. http://yourservername:32400/manage ? If that works you should have no problems connecting to it.

I will check this after I get home from class tonight and report back

quick update:

i've rewritten my updater-plugin. the settings-page should be a bit faster now, also there is a updateplg function (for future updates)

and most important for plexpass-users. now there is a fallback to stable, if the stable version is newer than the latest preview release.

next version will include update-notification (requires simple-features plugin)

for download see my signature

I am able to access the link and it seems to be working now.

Thank you for your help and your all your work.

Ok...from a system standpoint, PMS is working great. Now my problem is that my movies and tv shows (which are all in .mkv containers) are not all playing. I have some video/audio codecs which are not compatible with PMS on some of my clients.

I had used a multimuxer (demux/convert/remux) utility involving eac3to and other programs to fix some of the movies before. I just can't remember the name of it. It was a GUI utility that linked to other programs like eac3to and aften but did everything automatically. Can someone help?

one of the usual recommendations is handbrake: http://handbrake.fr/

but i'm not sure, if that's the one you are searching for...

but you can expect better answers over in the plex forums. (since this is not a unraid related problem)

Clown BD?

Handbrake, http://handbrake.fr/ , is quite good.

meGUI?

I have the Plex update plugin working now.  It shows I'm running v1.2, is that the current version, just to confirm?  I now have both a Upgrade and a Downgrade button.

Last, for the PlexPass, I have selected NO, so I left the User name and Password blank.  I'm assuming that is ok.

The Update Plex worked great, I'm not running 0.9.7.7.339.  Great tool!

Thanks!

1.2 is the latest version of the plugin (otherwise you could always hit update plg, to install the latest version. but you should be at the latest version already).

the downgrade button is only for the plugin, not for the media server. (it's a failsafe, if you load a new plugin version and it doesn't work, you can go back to your previous version...)

as long as you are not a plex pass member, just leave it blank and the plugin will only let you get the stable versions.

have fun with your media server :)

Great, thanks!

Quick question, I had my temp directory set to /mnt/disk1/plex/tmp which work fine for transcoding. I then got more memory into my server and now want to point the transcoding to /tmp which should speed things up a bit. I made the change from the unraid gui and also confirmed the settings.ini reflected the change. However when I restart or even reboot, transcoding still use the /mnt/disk1/plex/tmp.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, im new to all this Plex thread and i have a question. I just installed the plex media server on my unraid  (v4.7) and i was wondering where / how can i configure the plex server. I dont see any new button under the Web Interface.

Got the plg put it under boot/extra and reboot. SO i guess i installed correctly.

Any idea or suggestions?

thx in advance

To get to the Plex management page. http://servername:32400/manage. Then youre on your way.

As stated in the docs/

Access the Media Manager in a Browser window

You can access the Media Manager using any modern browser from anywhere in your local area network. You can also access the Media Manager from outside your network with a correctly configured router. To access the Media Manager in your browser, find the IP address of the Plex Media Server computer then:

Open a browser window

Enter http://your.PMS.Server.IP:32400/manage/

Your web browser will open and load the Media Manager

There are some small differences between the Mac OS Media Manager application and browser based access to the Media Manager. The differences will be noted in this manual. In the images below, the left image is the Mac OS native application, the right image is the Web UI in a browser.

the plg file won't work with unraid 4.7

you need to download the server directly from plexapp.com and put the txz file into boot/extra.

i'm not exactly sure, if plex works with unraid 4.7...
