August 28, 201213 yr nice job finding the issue. My question is why didn't this happen to anyone else? I didn't need to make this change, has anyone else? Better yet, should we?
August 28, 201213 yr never had issues with Plex and mine are root/root 0666 mine was 0600 (just root permissions). Do you have any other user defined other than root? I just have root user defined under unRAID webUI.
August 28, 201213 yr i have 5 users defined in the unraid gui each member of the family has their own login in every computer so when they connect to unraid to watch a movie access is determined by the user .... don't want the kid to see the xxx parody of scooby doo
August 28, 201213 yr i have 5 users defined in the unraid gui maybe that is the reason you have different permissions on /dev/null

August 28, 201213 yr I found this on PLEX wiki: PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_USE_SYSLOG=true http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Plex_Media_Server_Preferences Where can I place it for it to work in unRAID?
August 28, 201213 yr Author put this: export PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_USE_SYSLOG=true to /boot/config/plugins/plexmediaserver/exportsettings but I'm not sure if it survive a reboot...
August 28, 201213 yr put this: export PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_USE_SYSLOG=true to /boot/config/plugins/plexmediaserver/exportsettings but I'm not sure if it survive a reboot... What about /boot/config/plugins/plexmediaserver/settings.ini? I saw now that there are similarly named constants there.
August 28, 201213 yr Author not at this point, you have to export it because it has to exist in as an environment variables.
August 30, 201213 yr Does anyone else have a problem that Plex Media Server process kills itself after a period of time? Plex DLNA is still running. I have the following 2 processes: Plex Plug-in [com.plexapp.system] /mnt/cache/unRAID_Apps/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/Framework.bundle/Contents/Resources/Versions/2/Python/bootstrap.py --server-version 0.9.6.7.204-266f05d /mnt/cache/unRAID_Apps/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/System.bundle /usr/local/plexmediaserver/Plex DLNA Server and the following process is missing (usually exists): ./Plex Media Server In addition the user RUNAS=unraid-plex doesn't work for me (I have only root permissions on /dev/null so rc.plexmediaserver doesn't work) Also this user is hardcoded in the rc.plexmediaserver script under plex_stop.
August 30, 201213 yr new version is out: http://cdn.plexapp.com/PlexMediaServer/0.9.6.8.228/PlexMediaServer-0.9.6.8.228-e6ae65a-unRAID.txz haven't installed it yet so not sure how this whole paying for a plex pass thing to get extra features works there's an updated version now with some "minor bug fixes": http://plex-downloads.s3.amazonaws.com/0.9.6.7/Releases/Linux-Slackware-131-i386/PlexMediaServer-0.9.6.7.204-266f05d-unRAID.txz new PMS Version is out. Elan's Blog UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS: cd /boot/extra removepkg PlexMediaServer-your-old-version-unRAID.txz rm PlexMediaServer-your-old-version-unRAID.txz wget http://plex-downloads.s3.amazonaws.com/0.9.6.6/Releases/Linux-Slackware-131-i386/PlexMediaServer-0.9.6.6.200-b75ecf4-unRAID.txz installpkg PlexMediaServer-0.9.6.6.200-b75ecf4-unRAID.txz or cd /boot/extra rm PlexMediaServer-your-old-version-unRAID.txz wget http://plex-downloads.s3.amazonaws.com/0.9.6.6/Releases/Linux-Slackware-131-i386/PlexMediaServer-0.9.6.6.200-b75ecf4-unRAID.txz (then reboot your server) enjoy...
August 30, 201213 yr I updated I'm only using it for DNLA till my 2012 samsung tv's get the client, but they fixed the samsung dnla profile tho. I don't use any of the my plex stuff anyways. Update all good.
August 31, 201213 yr yeah, after reading more about it, i'm not keen on paying to be a beta tester (or the other implication, that they'll hold back the release of features to the freebie crowd to keep a differntiation with the paying members). plus the vague talk of premium features they'll charge for gives an indication of the direction they'll take - they're already ignoring bugs with the (free) clients, can't see how that will get any better when they're supporting paid features. the new media manager looks nice, but only accessible if you're paying for plex pass (one of the dev's said in the comments it will be available for all in a "few weeks" - i'd wager it will be months). I think i'll spend the weekend looking at setting up XBMC/MediaPortal/MediaBrowser to see how they perform vs Plex...
September 12, 201213 yr Can anyone confirm the path that user DLNA settings should be saved to. The default one that is overwritten at startup is at: /usr/local/plexmediaserver/Resources/dlnaclientprofiles.xml I wanted to try and get DLNA running to a Panasonic Plasma. Thanks Tolax
September 12, 201213 yr Author http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/42523-writing-profiles-for-dlna-devices/
September 12, 201213 yr spidi - Thanks for the link. I did find the same thread. Contains definitive examples of where the file should be for Windows and OSX but not for Unix. I will do some more searching on the forums. Sure it is me being dense (again)
September 12, 201213 yr Author I think it has to be there: /path/to/your/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/ As far as I remember this file doesn't exist, you have to create one.
September 12, 201213 yr I looked into /boot/custom/plex/user.conf file less /boot/custom/plex/user.conf It referenced /mnt/disk1/plexapp, so I went there. That plex page (http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/42523-writing-profiles-for-dlna-devices/) talks about two different profiles a System Profile, and a Client Profile. My System Profiles are at :/mnt/disk1/plexapp/Resources and my Client Profiles are more difficult to find. I think this is it: /mnt/disk1/plexapp/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/System.bundle/Contents/Resource good luck. Post solution if it works for you, and how you did it. spidi - Thanks for the link. I did find the same thread. September 13, 201213 yr Thanks for the responses. I'll play around over the weekend and report back with a definitive answer (in case there are others with my level of intelligence....)
September 13, 201213 yr It's been updated again. Minor fixes mostly. v0.9.6.9 http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Downloads#Plex_Media_Server_.28PMS_-_standalone_server.29
September 14, 201213 yr Just to summarize in one post So in my plex install I defined the library directory as: /mnt/user/plex/Library Therefore the user DLNA client profile needs to be at: usr/mnt/user/plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/dlnaclientprofiles.xml Thanks to spidi and dkerlee who pointed me in the right direction. Tolax
September 19, 201213 yr Sorry to flog a dead horse but I still have some questions after your explanation: 1) Why wont the web config interface let me edit the text in the Library directory and Temp Directory which are defaulted to /tmp/Library and /tmp respectively. Even if I wanted to use those directories, where do they actually physically reside? 2) I dont have a cache drive as I only use relatively large slow files like DVD ISOs. My server contains nearly 20 TB of movies under just one share "movies" 3) Give what you wrote earlier will it be impossible for me to allow plex access to all of my movies? 4) if I wanted to set it up to use movies, what is the actual path I should change the settings.ini file to? Sorry for such a large number of questions but I'm really confused as to how you would use PMS for the most obvious application, a huge directory of movies! Thanks in advance!
