free vps 128mb 3gb

Featured Replies

chunkhost is giving away free vps with 128 mb 3gb http://chunkhost.com/r/lynx580

This is perfect to runn pbx in a flash /postfix I setup centos on mine and it comes with preinstalled mysql postfix and etc.

I just got this so I can work around port 25 being blocked by my isp

Signed up for one but have no idea what I'm going to do with it. Anyone have any interesting ideas to use this for? I was thinking an openssh proxy but 35GB of transfer might not quite be enough.

Someone that's going to sign up should use my referral link (http://chunkhost.com/r/aikenchunk), and then the next person should use theirs and so on...

Not sure what I'm going to use mine for... maybe it would be cool to set up a mySQL server replicated from my XBMC library at home?

Sounds neat but I have no idea what I'd use this for. I have a vpn so that's out, anything else cool that could be done with it?

Here's a few things I've used virtual private servers/dedicated servers before:-

A. Automating actions (In games/Websites/etc)

B. Forward requests (Proxies/VPNs)

C. Hosting items (Images, files, chatlogs, videos, etc)

D. Running CPU intensive programs that give small outputs on.

All I can think of at the moment, I've used them for more, I just can't think of anything at the moment.

Not sure what I will use it for either, but it gives me something to play around with.  Here is my referral link: http://chunkhost.com/r/Firefly

I am also not sure what I will use mine for either. We shall see. Jason I used your referee link. Here is mine http://chunkhost.com/r/Burt8571

Well I signed up for one too (using yours burtjr) but they appear to have 'run out of capacity' so I'm sat in the waitlist for a chunk..

However http://chunkhost.com/r/stourwalk is my referrer link if anyone wants to give me some more memory :)

What OS have you guys been selecting exactly from the list of available OS's?

I wanted centos 6 for mine...

I went with Ubuntu 12.10 since I'm most familiar with it. It says you can switch OSes any time you want (losing all your apps/stored data though I'm assuming) so I may move to CentOS6 to play around with it.

And my wait in the wait list was remarkably short - so I know have my centos chunk - now to play!

Chris

Still waiting for mine.  Guess they don't like my FB profile.  I just ended up grabbing a $12/year VPS from URPad to play around with, so I could feel like I was having fun, too.  Quite a bit more available bandwidth (500GB).  Already got OpenVPN up and running.  My *nix skills are going to be siiiick.

Signed up with your stourwalk, mine is in pending status...

Here mine for the next person.

Since we are all nicely using each others referral codes - if you look in your ChunkHost account - does anyone actually have an verified referrals?

I'm wondering if the 'free' chunks count towards your referrals or not - or what qualifies as a 'verified referral' ...

Chris

Good question, probably not... From this posting you should have at least 2 showing up for you.

I have zero verified referrals but I saw this:

Free Chunk 128	128MB	3GB	35GB	your plan now
Free Chunk 256	256MB	5GB	75GB	+ 2 more needed
Free Chunk 512	512MB	10GB	150GB	+ 6 more needed

Free Chunk 2048	2048MB	30GB	600GB	+ 30 more needed

I got mine, but I am having trouble logging in as "root" via ssh.

Since its inked to my facebook account (required for the freebie host), my facebook password fails.  I tried email their Tech Support, but no response.

I have also read their wiki for ssh http://wiki.chunkhost.com/sshbasics

Anyone else having login issues?

Here is mine in case anyone wishes to use me as a referral

Did you get email from them with password username should be root and password they send you and then you cant type in passwd and then you can change your root password.  Facebook login is used for webstatus page only no ssh and root
