loadme
Thanks for all the advice again This is what I found while looking for offers regarding astraweb. Its monthly unlimited and 11 instead of 15 USD. I know, there is the 96USD, but one year? I just want to give it a try. http://www.news.astraweb.com/specials/kleverig-11.html Quote Link to comment
BRiT
Thats why I said to try out the free sites first, then if you're sure its the thing for you, go for the best deal to you. Quote Link to comment
graywolf
ok...decided to check this out. Don't have a cache disk or a drive currently outside of array so created a usershare and installed SABnzbd & Sickbeard there to check out. Still learning about this, zero prior experience. I seem to have everything installed correctly and have downloaded a nzo and added it to the queue in SABnzbd. Download speeds seem to be very slow, around 150KB/s so approx 6+hrs for 4GB. Is this normal? Is it because I did it on the array? Also noticed that sometimes it goes completely IDLE and just seems to stop all together. Guess I still have a ton more reading to do. chanders
What news server are you using? It sounds like a free one where they cap the download rate. Try signing up with astraweb or giganews for the free two week trial. Downloads should cap your ISP bandwidth. Quote Link to comment
graywolf
With the Giganews free 14day trial to try them out. Have DSL connection. Quote Link to comment
manolodf
Whats your DSL max speed because normally it should run at your full speed. Maybe the array is slowing it down a bit, maybe instead of running to user share try to disk mount? But I love the way the cache drive works. Also check to see if the trial is capping you, but I have used both usenetserver and astraweb, i switched to astraweb because one time i was looking for something 600Days old and was supposed to be in usenetservers retention, but it errored. Astraweb pulled it so I got pissed, but honestly most things worked up to 500 days, i was just angry they advertised 600 days and it didnt complete, though i never had any problems, always ran at full speed and with ssl so you cant ask for much more for $10/mo Quote Link to comment
BRiT
What speed DSL? Some phone companies have rather low end tiers that they consider to be DSL but are rather slow. What do some online speed tests sites say your bandwidth is? For instance: http://www.speedtest.net/ For reference, with my cable provider I get anywhere from 20 to 27 mbit/sec download rates on AstraWeb. Quote Link to comment
ClunkClunk
Up until a few weeks ago I was writing directly to the array with SABnzbd, and I didn't notice any speed issues. I could regularly max out my 12mbit cable connection (1.5MB/sec) without the array being the limiter. Quote Link to comment
graywolf
ok...did speed test....while download in progress (approx 150KB/s reported by SABnzbd) it showed ping 560ms and .1Mb/s download When I paused SABnzbd, I got ping 84ms and 1.3 Mb/s download During both, I had my work VPN connection. graywolf
so I guess 150KB/s is approx 1200Kb/s which is close to what SpeedTest showed me. Guess I either need to live with the slow speed or look into getting a better ISP connection (DSL or switch to Cable) So I'm doing everything manually (find nzo, download nzo, add nzo to queue). See where can automate nzo to queue. What all are you doing for determining stuff to download? Automated in any way with criteria? Quote Link to comment
manolodf
The best tool to avoid manually is nzbdstatus plugin for firefox. There is also sabtab for greasemonkey if you are using newzbin. The best places to search, the good ones are paid are newzbin or even nzbmatrix. Then there are other free ones which you have to comb through a bit more but like binsearch.info etc. Im sure other people here have others. Then normally find releases on sites like vcdquality what has been released by the release groups and posted to usenet. Others will have more to add Quote Link to comment
chanders
Newzbin is the best by far but you have to be invited and even then you have to pay a small fee (bi-yearly or something). Sites like NZBsRus, nzbmatrix and nzbs.org require a one time payment of about 10USD or similar for a lifetime and I think they are worth it. Quote Link to comment
neilt0
nzbs.org is free and good for TV stuff. I no longer use NewzBin, even though I still have a subscription. I like: nzbs.org nzbindex.nl nzbclub.com (huge retention) All free. There's no need to pay for NZBs any more. Quote Link to comment

loadme
hello again, astraweb was a very good deal. using sabnzbd+ in the background feels even better than using a torrent client. the auto-unrar feature was new for me too, so 10 points here. i tested it on my windows machine now there stays only one question: if i would outsource sabnzbd+ to unRAID, would i be able to click nzb files from my workstation to start downloading them from my unRAID? Quote Link to comment
BRiT
You could do that by making use of the "watch import directory". I have sabnzbd+ setup to watch a directory for new .NZB files. I save them there from other PCs and it adds them to the queue and starts downloading automatically. Quote Link to comment
chanders
There are also addons/extensions for Firefox/chrome that allow you to just click on the nzb download link and it automatically starts downloading on the server Quote Link to comment

There i found https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7617/ The description sounds very promising, although i cannot test it yet. Good luck Quote Link to comment
joehen1990
SABnzbdDependencies-2.0-i486-unRAID.tgz Link doesn't work, could somebody re-upload the latest dependencies package please? Quote Link to comment

For example, at work? Quote Link to comment
