disk I/O error

I'm presuming this is a fault within EMBY and nothing else? To confirm i have checked the disk is fine to write to, changed the location so it is skipping and going directly to user0 instead, and tried re-installing it from scratch again

  • Are you running embyserver:beta ? I got the same error but only with the latest beta (4.6.0.34)   You can wait for a fix or specify the previous beta in Repository: emby/embyserver:4.6.

  • It's in the beta. Switch your repository to emby/embyserver:beta or wait for the next release.

Hey Everyone,

So i'v been unable to use EMBY for around 19 days now at all on my server so i'm wondering if anyone can help with my previous post?

I've attached my full system diagnostics as well as logs from 2 dockers, EmbyServer normal and the beta branch. I have 8 dockers other than Emby on the server and none of them are having this problem. Originally it was just filling up the log files with errors but would still load and was still usable. Since then it has done a number of updates and now won't start at all (on live or beta)

Things i've tried:

  • Deleting and re-installing both dockers
  • Force updating both dockers
  • Changing both dockers to using the user0 mnt instead of the normal user mnt

I have no idea what could be causing this at all, reading the log it seems to all be related to MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe and SQLlite issues, help would be amazing. One thing i have yet to try is deleting the entire docker folder and starting again from scratch in case the Emby database is corrupt some how, but i don't want to go down that route yet unless i have to

Regards,

Jamie

Edit:

So i just tried a fresh EMBY install in a new folder so it was fresh. I even tried adding in the PUID and PGID values just in case but this has the exact same problems as the others

Sorry, but this is an isolated issue and issue actually relating to Emby itself. It is probably best that you make a post on the server support subforums of emby's forums.

So having had a response from Luke on Emby Server's forum i decided to move my EMBY docker to my cache drive and try again, amazingly the docker came up instantly with no issues at all

So it seems to be something to do with the fact that my EMBY server is stored in the main array, i would imagine its not a drive fault since everything else is able to write to the array fine but i am going to run an extended smart scan on the system anyway  just to check

Is there some weird symlink issue i've missed recently?

Jamie

Edit

Ok so this is where i am at now.

  • A fresh install works mapped by disk1
  • A fresh install works mapped by disk2
  • A fresh install works mapped by cache
  • A fresh install fails by user0
  • A fresh install fails by user

Seems like a symlink issue maybe?

Regards,

Jamie

Thats an issues with SHFS, which is the LimeTech unraid user filesystem that aggregates the various drives to seem like one.

Which version of unraid are you using bigjme? Seems like 6.3.0 RC6?

It is indeed. The issue has been happening for a few versions now but I didn't spot it for a little while.

It does seem to follow that yes, I've started some extended smart scans on my drives anyway

Jamie

Not sure been posted before although did skim through past posts.

After working great for years emby suddenly broke down.

It's causing the whole unraid to hang and be unresponsive and i have to manually restart it.

I was using phaze's plugin but switch to this one. It's only made the problem worse. I tried to start from scratch but the scan's hanging all the images in libary are gone and nothings playing.

Not sure what to do to fix it

The docker itself has been tested and works. Actual issues with emby should be posted on their forums. The devs there including myself will be better able to provide support.

Would issues  with emby cause the whole unraid to halt?

  • Author

I would check unRAID logs. Sounds like your system is having issues

Are you refering to og on dashboard next to info.

I've checked that haven't seen anything unusual but not once system crashes.

It works completely fine when the emby docker is off but whole system hangs after few hours emby running.

That#s why thought docker issue rather emby

  • Author

The syslog in var log is worth inspecting. If the system crashes after emby if running for a while, than I would heavily suspect the issue to be with either emby or the host (unRAID)

Hi,

I have a question regarding transcoding. Sorry if this has already been answered, I did a search but was not able to find an answer.

I noticed when I try to play a movie through the Emby app on an ipad it will max out a single core of my cpu while the other 3 cores remain around 2-3% load. The movie will sometimes pause to buffer as a result.  Is this normal behaviour when playing through the emby app?  Is there any way to allow it to use more cores?  Is there another transcode setting I should be looking at?

I have a core i5-6500 and 16GB of RAM.

I should also mention that if I open the same file with VLC on the ipad I get flawless playback an it barely registers on my cpu load.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan.

There should be an option to increase the number of cores in use in the emby interface. If you post in the emby forums I'm sure some one would answer right away. I can not remember the location off the top of my head

  • 2 weeks later...

I've tried fixing every other issue but my emby still causing my unraid to freeze.

I seet it up as:

/mnt/cache/app/emby

/mnt

/mnt/user/Anime/

/mnt/user/Tv Shows/

I also attached docker log before the last freeze.

Reading from the log it seem like ffprobe can not handle ttf files, for some reason you seem to have font files with your media files...  which seem to cause emby to crash. Perhaps deleting the ttf files from your media file might solve your issue. PS Issues like this are best posted on emby forums. I am the maintainer and developer of the container and not emby itself, 99% of the issues individuals encounter are actually with the application and not the docker. So  it's probably  in your best interest  to post to the forums supporting the application itself (emby);I suggest this so that users get the best support possible.

/mnt

/mnt/user/Anime/

/mnt/user/Tv Shows/

Probably not relevant to the freezing issue, but you need to fix your mapping. You have /mnt listed along with /mnt/user paths. I suggest you read the docker FAQ's on path mapping. A good start would probably be to remove the /mnt that is by itself.

You neglected to post what the host paths were mapped to inside the container, so it's not possible to tell what other issues the duplicate host mapping may be causing.

I posted on both just wanted to make sure I've haven't messed up anything docker end as it was working fine till updated and all fell apart and fresh install wasn't fixing it.

Anime and Tv shows was added recently because I thought might be the /mnt path causing an issue. Those are the host paths on the container. I just wanted to get how everyone else set up so could eliminate the docker as issue, which hurricanehrndz already mentioned it's Emby itself freezing the system.

I think you are using the old template v1, you should probably update to the latest.

I just got the docker from app i see no option to update

I've noticed that I can no longer play blu ray iso's since using Emby.  Is this a coincidence or a limit of using Emby? I  like the program, but if it won't play blu ray isos then it might be a deal breaker for me.  Is this possible and if so, is there a work around for it?

You might want to ask in the emby forums, this thread is reserved for Support question regarding  the container itself not the operation of the application itself

I don't know if the problem is with this docker or emby itself

Since a few days the progress of watched movies/tv shows isn't stored anymore correctly. It asks me in kodi if I want to continue at for example 1:01:38 and when chosing yes it still begins at 0

Anyone with this problem or better placed in emby forums?
