August 30, 201015 yr Author added the entry and now i get: [->] MAIL FROM:<[email protected]> but still no sucessful email out. Should it say [email protected]?? Is there a variable to set the starting part (root as above) to be my dynamis_dk username? Yes, in the new version there is.. just uploaded to code.google.com.
August 30, 201015 yr Well I've carried out the update and re-entered all my details. August 30, 201015 yr Well i tried it blank first and it didnt work so i thought i'd misunderstood [email protected] mailhub=plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com:587 rewriteDomain= hostname=localhost UseSTARTTLS=NO AuthUser=dynamis_dk AuthPass=xxxxxxxx FromLineOverride=YES With my config like above, i get the MAIL FROM:<root@localhost> detail returned and same ssmpt error 553. Is the rest of the config about right?? I may post up if anyone else has had issues with using yahoo servers... I'm starting to feel a bit of a noob lol, would you believe i actually work as an IT tech - just goes to show how windows based i've been
August 30, 201015 yr Author Well i tried it blank first and it didnt work so i thought i'd misunderstood [email protected] mailhub=plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com:587 rewriteDomain= hostname=localhost UseSTARTTLS=NO AuthUser=dynamis_dk AuthPass=xxxxxxxx FromLineOverride=YES With my config like above, i get the MAIL FROM:<root@localhost> detail returned and same ssmpt error 553. Is the rest of the config about right?? I may post up if anyone else has had issues with using yahoo servers... I'm starting to feel a bit of a noob lol, would you believe i actually work as an IT tech - just goes to show how windows based i've been The "sed" command I posted earlier would have removed the entire rewriteDomain= line If you were using the package manager in unMENU, and the new .conf file it too would have removed the same line. (or, actually not added it) If you edited the configuration variables, and then pressed the button to re-install with the changed values. This is not really magic. It is simply ssmtp doing what you've asked it to do. The line is there only because it was in the sample I originally started with and because most of the mail providers seem to ignore it if it is not set. I did not know any better, so I just left it blank. That does not work for yahoo. Delete the line from your config file. Download the updated package through unMENU. It will probably do the right thing if you leave the Re-Write Domain field blank. Or... If you insist on editing the file yourself, delete the entire line that says rewriteDomain= Joe L.

August 31, 201015 yr Based on settings like the last post, I get: [<-] 220 smtp106.prem.mail.sp1.yahoo.com ESMTP [->] EHLO localhost [<-] 250 8BITMIME [->] STARTTLS [<-] 502 Command not implemented ssmtp: Cannot open plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com:587 and with 465 i just get the ssmtp: Cannot open plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com:465 response might be that port isn't accepting. This is after carrying out a update, modifying the settings on the packages page and installing. Then also tried to reboot the server and carry out the above but unfortunatly still the same. To test, I registered a gmail account and entered there details - poof worked first time. So i think for notifications i'm gonna stick with gmail's smtp and just forward it to my yahoo address. Thanks very much for the help Joe L.
September 6, 201015 yr Author A new version of the unmenu_install program is now available. It will attempt to migrate any configuration values in package.conf files when newer version of those same packages are released. It is now the version set as the "featured download" on the google code page here: http://code.google.com/p/unraid-unmenu/ There is no need to download it specifically, but you can if you prefer. Un-zip ot to your /boot/unmenu folder. (If you do download and un-zip it, you should not have to re-configure any updated packages downloaded in the next check for updates) Otherwise, if you do not download it specifically, it will download itself when you next check for updates using the button in unmenu, and it will be in effect for future updates from that point onward. You aske it to override the "from" line, but did not give it the re-write domain. That might be why it is rejecting it. Also... You might try MAIL ID: set to "xxx" instead of "[email protected]" Many e-mail servers want only the email, not the full email@host. The rejection could be because it knows you are not sending the mail from its server... and trying to spoof an alternative "From:" domain that would normally be from its server.

Joe L. stupid question, Joe. Where is the check for updates button on unmenu?
September 7, 201015 yr Author I think it's under user scripts Correct. If you do not have it, then you might be running an old version of unMENU before it was added. What version of unMENU are you running? If you have the unmenu_install program in place you can use it instead and do it from the command line. (and it is all the check for updates button does anyway) To check for updates: unmenu_install -d /boot/unmenu -c To perform the updates: unmenu_install -d /boot/unmenu -u If you do not have the unmenu_install program then you are definitely using a very old version of unMENU. Download the unmenu_install program from here: http://code.google.com/p/unraid-unmenu/downloads/list Unzip to the \\tower\flash\unmenu folder. Then log in via telnet or on the system console and run the commands to check for and install the newest version of unMENU. Then... the "Check for Updates" button will be on the user-scripts page. If you don't mind, can you do the description of the package? My English is far from being proficient... Thanks a lot for the help. I have absolutely no idea of your native language, but your English is better than some of the kids today in the USA. They can barely write anything, and their ability to put together a sentence, including all the vowels, is sadly lacking. (too much "texting") I'll be happy to add the description. Thank you for taking the time to put together a unMENU package to help with the configuration. I know it will be of help to others. Joe L.
September 10, 201015 yr I think it's under user scripts Correct. Joe L. Thanks Joe. this might need its own thread.........but for some reason whenever I try to run any commands on the tower console directly it never works. but if I telnet in and run the same command it works.
September 10, 201015 yr Not to be an ass, but did you login on the physical console using 'root' user before typing those commands? And do you see a root prompt that responds when you hit enter? It should be absolutely no different then telnetting in.

It would say "bash "something" unmenu_install not found. but when I did it through the telnet window it worked.

Then you might have forgotten to first cd /boot/unmenu The /boot folder is not in the default search path. If you by chance put unmenu_install somewhere else, instead of /boot/unmenu (or, more accurately not on the USB flash drive) you would need to set its execute bit first, since the bit is set for you on the flash drive, but not on other file system types. chmod +x /mnt/disk1/unmenu_install
September 14, 201015 yr can anyone provide a link about how i can start unmenu automatically with every unraid server restart/boot? edit: because my 2nd question was really dumb.
