Thank you. I was a bit confused first, because the inofficial unRAID wiki tells you, that there is a plugin within unMenu, that calls itself "go script", but I couldnt find it.

After finding the go file on my flashdrive, everything else got a lot more simple ;)

If you can give me the link to the un-official wiki page with the confusing wording I can probably fix it to be more clear.

http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=UnRAID_Add_Ons

listed within the plugin list for unMenu

tells me:

Go Script Manager

similar to (and based on) the Package Manager, for managing the addition of scripts in the unRAID go file

    see http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2876

installation is in first post of thread, but also see here and subsequent posts. (this ability is now merged into the Package manager.)

i got confused, because there is no such thing as an "go script manager" in the packages to install (from within unMenu)

Link to comment

Now I understand.  At one time somebody did write a plugin to manage the "go" script, but it was not as universal as the Config View/Edit plugin I had written at the same time.

I'll delete the reference from the wiki. I did not know it was there.  It was never added to the official distribution.

Sorry for any confusion.

I've just installed unMenu, and I'm sure this is a stupid question, but can't find the answer.

Other than the unmenu mainpage, when I click to another screen ("About" for example), I do not reach the screenshot shown in the Wiki, in any browser (IE8,FF)

Instead I reach a yahoo seach engine page, looking for tower:8080/about.  I'm guessing this is a browser setting.

(Also, I can only reach unmenu mainpage by typing my tower IP address:8080. It cannot be reached via "tower:8080")

Any advice is appreciated.

Are you using a MAC?  If so, you need an entry in your hosts file.  It not have you tried

http://tower:8080'>http://tower:8080

(not just tower:8080)

Can you get to the usual web-management page using http://tower ?

Apparently your browser and DNS server are hijacking any web-pages and sending you to their search engine.  That is considered to be poor practice and can usually be disabled somewhere in your service provider settings.

If you want to get the other pages working, you'll need to set the unRAID server at a fixed IP address and then add two lines to the unMENU .conf file as described in this post:

Yes on the first count, no on the second.

I don't really have "settings" that I'm aware of. I have a Rogers Cable modem (Ontario,Canada) and there's nothing I do on my end to get onto the Internet.  But maybe I'm misunderstanding.

If you want to get the other pages working, you'll need to a) set the unRAID server at a fixed IP address and then b) add two lines to the unMENU .conf file as described in this post:

http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5568.msg51838#msg51838

For a) I tried reserving the MAC address of tower (192.168.0.12) on my D-Link DIR-825 Router, but it says the MAC address is invalid.  If I try reserving another PC's MAC address, no problem.  Could it be reading the MAC address of the tower incorrectly?  Where would I get the MAC address manually?

b) Done. Has made no difference, but suspect part (a) is still the problem.

Found a great explanation for why this is happening here:

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my message. (And I know what MAC and IP Addresses are :-) )

The issue is this: the only way that I know to assign an IP address to a fixed number (in my case 192.168.0.12) is to tell the router for this MAC address, reserve this number.

So, the Router is rejecting the Tower's MAC Address, saying it is invalid.  However, it accepts any other PC's on my network MAC address, so I know the function is working.

But I'm open to input...is there another way to lock an IP address to the Tower?  Or might someone know why it would think the MAC address is invalid?

Yes, on the unRAID web-management interface, under "Settings"

Choose "No" for Obtain IP Address Automatically" and then fill in the fields for IP address, netmask, gateway, and DNS server.

Typically, netmask will be 255.255.255.000 and gateway = router IP address and DNS serve = router IP address.

Thanks, Joe L.  I made those changes but it still didn't take.  But, now that I understand DNS, I did some research on my ISP and found out about the hijacking they do and how to disable it.

Here it is.  I followed this and restarted IE. Works like a charm.

Now, on to my next task...Getting PERL installed.

Thanks for all your help!

I can't get this to successfully install.  I get the error 'Unable to download release list from http://unraid-unmenu.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/release_list''>http://unraid-unmenu.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/release_list'

That may indicate that you have not set up the "gateway" and DNS server entries on your unRAID server.

When I try that URL in a browser it looks fine.

Good, that means your router knows how to get to it.

Try typing:

net lookup google.com

and

ping -c 5 google.com

If those work, what happens when you type:

wget -O /tmp/unmenu_release_list http://unraid-unmenu.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/release_list

Do you have a firewall rule in place in your router?

Also, the instructions on this page seem to be wrong, as they make no mention of actually installing unmenu with the -i command:

http://code.google.com/p/unraid-unmenu/

Perhaps you missed this line:

unmenu_install -i -d /boot/unmenu

It is in the middle of that page you listed. (http://code.google.com/p/unraid-unmenu/)

DO i have to be in a network connected to Internet to be able to install Unmenu?

Im just finishing the build, preclearing disk and that kind of thing. I still dont have all the network rdy, only my laptop via wifi to the Inet.

Dont know if this matter but i can only use wifi internet or log in the Web interface, one or the other. I have to disable wifi to be able to connect to the Unraid Server.

I have the unraid with Fix IP Adress.

Try typing:

net lookup google.com

returns '74.125.19.103'

ping -c 5 google.com

returns 'connect: Network is unreachable'

returns '/temp/unmenu_release_list: No such file or directory'

Do you have a firewall rule in place in your router?

I don't think so, but I'll look into it.  I probably do have the general Windows firewall on, but that shouldn't affect the server, correct?

I could have sworn that line wasn't there yesterday  :P  Yeah, looks like I missed it.

tmp, not temp

did you mis-type???  /tmp exists, /temp does not.

If net lookup worked, you have a DNS server defined.  Good.

If ping failed, (and it failed) you do not have the gateway defined, or your router is not allowing the connection.

Typically, the gateway is the IP address of your router.  You define it on the settings page on the unRAID web-management console.

It works!  Defining the gateway on the server seems to have done the trick.  Not mistyping tmp helped too.  Thanks Joe, fantastic help as always.

Great news.

Now, do I need to edit my go script so that unmenu will reinstall after a reboot?  Or is that already taken care of?

You need to edit it to add one line at its end.

Just append one line

/boot/unmenu/uu

You can use the "Config View/Edit" page built into unMENU in fact to edit the "go" file to add the line.  It will automatically make a backup copy of the file for you.

Thanks, Joe.  For the record, I am VERY impressed with unMenu, and astounded at myself that I have been using unRAID for 1.5 years without it.

How dare you go that long without unMenu.  You deserve a timeout in the corner.  J/K

I should not be the one to talk... I am still running into unRAID 4.4.2 on my main system.  If i get a chance to this weekend I am probably going to update to 4.5.6... finally

Maybe that's the catalyst needed to get 4.5.7 or 5.0beta3 out. ;) Nothing like doing an update just to have something newer coming out right afterwards.
