I then started poking around my disks and I found I have directories on disk9 and disk10 from when I first started trying to create the USER shares. I think there is some residual config somewhere that is causing this. Only top level folders can be part of user shares and top level files wouldn't appear in user shares. I doubt this has anything at all to do with your problem. Those ???? files and the permission denied stuff isn't right though. Probably that is a symptom of the problem, which may be filesystem corruption. Reviewing the thread, it doesn't look like we have tried repairing the filesystem on disk3 yet. Might give that a shot. Link to comment

Now I have a 300 or so shares I need to clean up widdle down to a more managed list! I ran the reiserFSCK --check command on the other disks to make sure they were okay and got 100% ok on them.
