  1. If they do drop, it probably will not be more than ~$20. I would not expect them to drop in price for a while.
  2. Instead of 3TB drives, why don't you use 6TB drives. Yes they are a little bit of a premium now, but only get what you need. That way your cost will be minimized as you may be able to defer expanding the system until required and pricing should stabilize.
  3. Get one of these if you have a harbor freight around, http://www.harborfreight.com/8-inch-deep-throat-c-clamp-45917.html. Put it over the tab and tighten it up. It is possible that the tab will bend up, so don't let it. On mine two bent up and I had to bend them down with a pair of pliers to rebend them with the c clamp.
  4. Actually, in the 5.x candidate releases I found that it was. When the IP renew occurred, it would reset SAMBA, even if it kept the same IP. My solution was to hard code the IP, no more problems.
  5. I would look for the i3-4360 if possible. The power savings T model are not worth it. Most of the time the processor will be idling at its lowest clock rate and there will not be any appreciable difference in the thermal footprint. When you need the CPU power, the extra clocks will be beneficial. You will be surprised at what you suddenly decide you can use that 24/7 server for. I am on my 3rd processor because I thought the lower power solution was a better fit.

  7. According to your motherboard specs, you have a Realtek PCIE x1 LAN RTL8105E 10/100 NIC. In the past Realtek NICs could be an issue getting the correct drivers. That may be the case here. While I never had an issue with mine, I purchased an Intel PCI-E NIC. You might want to upgrade your Nic to a GigE version if you have to upgrade it.
  8. now that you have a monitor hooked up, attache a keyboard, login and issue the following command "ifconfig eth0". Verify the IP address is the one you expect.
  9. I would go to the Plex forums to ask detailed Plex questions.
  10. The biggest benefit I see from having them spin down is heat. Same with me. It warms the room up. In the winter I don't mind. During the summer it is a different issue.
  11. @ rukiddin Are you using your router to assign the IP? If so, hard code the server IP address on the server. Make sure it is outside the pool your router uses for handouts. This also fixes the issue of SAMBA shares dropping/resetting when the IP lease renews.
  12. I personally prefer the VPN endpoint to be on the router and not my server. While I use a ASUS RT-N16 running Shibby Tomato, my next router will probably be a EdgeRouter Lite. http://www.ubnt.com/downloads/datasheets/edgemax/EdgeRouter_Lite_DS.pdf VPN - Options IPSec Site-to-Site and Remote Access OpenVPN Site to Site and Remote Access PPTP Remote Access L2TP Remote Access PPTP Client
  13. And the quick instructions. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=33341.msg313769#msg313769 no issues.
  14. OpenVPN on my router that runs Tomato USB. The same. Takes all of 5~10 seconds to check the servers. Flick the switch to establish the VPN tunnel, open M2G see the server status.
  15. I would now run two (2) more cycles. But that is just me. If it is going to fail, I want it to fail while I can still return it versus dealing with warranty exchange.
  16. What is the best way to migrate from Influencers versions of CP/SB/Sab to PhAzEs version. I want to install plex server. I want to keep all the setting/configuration data so there is minimal work to migrate. IF there is already a thread on this I would appreciate being pointed to it.
  17. Make sure the controllers support greater than 2TB drives, ie 3-4 TB drives.
  18. If your talking about to being able to see the value the slide represents when you move it, I have the same issue of the top bubble being chopped off on my iPhone.
  19. Other than picking up one breakout cable just to test the SAS2LP by connecting it directly to a drive for testing to isolate the problem to the case/cabling, I have no other suggestions. One other thing, when you do get it working, you need to cycle a drive through every slot to make sure its good. I did it with my SS-500s and found one dead slot on a brand new cage.
  20. On the SuperMicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8, make sure you have the correct type of cable. I think you need a forward breakout cable. Edit: Just noticed you have a server case with cages. What case do you have.
  21. If you only want 7 drives, I would go with the iStarUSA 4in3. Possibly better airflow than the 5in3. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816215244&cm_re=drive_cage-_-16-215-244-_-Product
  22. Before you kick of a memtest, I would power everything down and try reseating the memory and all cards/cables.
  23. Its a one way move, from the cache to the main array. If you have files on the array that you only want to be in the cache share, you will have to move them back. What the cache only flag does is tell mover not to move the files/directories. You can use your PC or telnet into the unraid server and use Midnight Commander to move the files.
  24. Unless you are talking within the next 30 days or so, I would do the exact opposite. As the higher capacity 5-6Tb and greater capacity drives come online and are more widely available, they will drive the price of the 4Tb and lowed down. You also start the warranty clock ticking when you purchase the drives. But that is strictly my opinion.
