  1. Also, please consider in your design people who may stay on R5.05/5.06 and may never or upgrade late. I personally don't plan on going to R6 until it has baked for a little while after it goes final. I stayed on R5 RC8 until R5.05 was released. It worked and was very stable. I plan on following the same steps here. All I saying is don't break the R2 plugins for R5.x. even if they are frozen and no updates supported unless you are on R6. I can fully understand not wanting to support older loads and only develop for the new software.
  2. Make sure you get the correct version, 32 vs 64 bit.
  3. can you put the 2-wire into a mode where it is a modem only? I recently retired my Asus RT-N16 solution where I used OpenVPN built into tomato. It worked fine. If I was buying now, I would go with the ASUS RT-N66U. Only reason I changed is my line speed exceeds the capabilities of the RT-N16. It was a very stable solution. Either solution would work fine with speeds of xDSL. One issue, I had to store the certificates on a USB thumb drive as there was not enough NVRAM.
  4. I hope you are not talking about restricting the "Network Information Server" from listing to the lan port. I currently have unRaid as the server and my PC and Router as clients as they all use the same UPS. I want unRaid to shutdown if there is a power outage. My server runs 24/7/365 and with a directly connected usb cable is not relying on another PC to initiate a shutdown. If my router gets corrupted, I can always reload it. If my PC is on, I am probably here and can manually shut it down. So I want to keep using unRaid as the server vs being a client. If it is merely editing a configuration file, I can do that but would prefer to have it work out of the box as it does today and as the source does. If it has to be set of as a default, how about a config setting on the plugin to enable listing to other ports.
  5. If it is working the way you want it to, I would not upgrade. If you skipped the entire 5.x series, why would you want to upgrade your production system to a release still in beta. My system works just like I want it to at this time. I am not going to upgrade until at least RC 2 or 3 at the earliest. But that is me with this system. In this case the WAF makes it desirable to stay where I am.
  6. Or use midnight commander. You want to work on the TV Shows folder and move every show up a level. By working at the "Media" directory level, you can move the entire TV shows and all sub directories at once. After you have a top level of Movies and TV Shows, with there directories under them, you will need to clean up the drives and consolidate the seasons. There are various was to perform the cleanup. One method, if you have excel, is the workbook I put together. It will index your system and let you select a target disk to move the sub-directories/files to and build the appropriate rsync command. But first you have to get them to: mnt/Diskx/Share 1 mnt/Diskx/Share 2 i.e. the following. mnt/Disk1/TV Shows mnt/Disk1/Movies http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=33689.msg328265#msg328265
  7. I believe lionelhutz means the following: Assuming your top level shares are called Movies and TV_Shows. Set movies with a split level of 1 and TV shows with a spilt level of 2. This way a movie would have all of its files on the same drive. The TV_Shows/NCIS/ could be on multiple drives as shown. All of Season 1 will be on the same drive. Disk1/TV_Shows/NICS/Season1 Disk2/TV_Shows/NICS/Season2 etc. Disk3/TV_Shows/NICS/Posters.jpg Use the move command to move from Disk1/media>movies/TV shows>movie folder/series folder to Disk1>/TV shows/series folder Specify the path via the disk. There is an issue due to the way unRaid present all of your drives with a single view that could cause a loos of data if you dont use the disk path. As all you are doing is moving the pointer to the data, and not moving the data, the move is immediately. You might want to use midnight commander to do this. Telnet into your server and issue the "mc" command.
  8. I noticed that even in direct stream mode, plex chops the file in segments that it stores on your cache, or wherever you have it set for. It then streams these chunks to you player. At least it does if it is transcoding the audio. I use firetv boxes for plex client and that is the way it is working on my system. If I have a lot of activity on my cache drive, I see stuttering in video playback.
  9. The 6TB drives are still very new. I personally was very cautious with mine an precleared them both 5 times. Especially when the first one arrived DOA. If its going to fail, I want it to fail now. I ran a 1/2/2 cycle.
  10. Wouldn't the reboot do the same function as running the command above?
  11. Just updated my plugins i use from v1.5 to 2.0. I really debated doing this as everything works with v1.5. But I wanted the storage of the apps ofline so if they are not available, my server will still boot. I have been burned by that before where I had to remove a plugin as the server was offline and my system would not boot. Everything appeared to go smooth with the upgrade and no issues other than the one comment below. Procedure using MS Windows with flash drive exported for others in case they want to follow same procedure. I elected go for all plugins at once to just to make sure there were no dependency conflicts. [*]Verify you can reach the web interface of each of the applications you will be updating. [*]Browse to your unRaid server in the Network Neighborhood. [*]Make new directory in \\TOWER\flash\config\plugins. [*]Save appropriate plugins to new directory. [*]Edit the files to remove the ".txt" extension. [*]Create a directory called "old plugins". [*]Move the plugins you are going to updated into the "old plugins" directory. If any of the plugins have the ".old" extension, move them also. [*]Copy and Paste the new v2 plugins to the "\\TOWER\flash\config\plugins" directory level. [*]Shutdown and Restart your server. [*]After it boots up, verify you can reach the web interface of each of the applications you just updated. [*]Verify you can access the plugin control on the Settings page of your server. Give them time to load. The first time you open them they maybe be a little slower than you are used to. @Phaze, separate issue as an FYI. I was going back to SAB's plugin to check the time it takes to open, I got the following error message. Clicking the settings tab and trying again resulted in no error. Not sure if the is an LT error or plugin error. I have never seen it before I have not been able to reproduce it. "Warning: passthru(): Cannot execute a blank command in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/webGui/template.php on line 277 "
  12. It would be interesting to ask the seller if these are new drives or refurbished units. I can say my first 6tb red was DOA. It would not even let my system boot when plugged into the supermicro controller.
  13. If you save the picture from New Egg that shows the PCB open it in a viewer, and rotate the picture clockwise, zoom in and you can see more detail. Here is the area showing the base PCB P/N.
  14. Anybody got a 6TB Red not in their system that see what the PCB P/N is. I really don't want to shut my system down and pop a drive to check.
  15. If you look at the picture of the PCB board on Newegg, I get 2060-800001-000 REV P1. Google turns up references associating that with 6TB Greens, specifically the WD60EZRX-00MVLB1. While I am sure WD, like every other mfg, uses common parts when they can, the drives look the same. Up to the same letters "3B1" stamped into the metal at the top of the drive. http://www.amazon.com/WD60EZRX-00MVLB1-HBNNHVJMAB-Western-Digital-Drive/dp/B00Q4ZQ3J2 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA5AD2ER7851 Also the smart report posted earlier points that this drive started life as a higher capacity drive than advertised. User Capacity: 5,601,346,781,184 bytes [5.60 TB] EDIT: With an oddball capacity size, they could also taken drives, both Red/Green that had to many bad sectors and could not be sold as 6TB drives and hard mapped out the bad sectors and sold them to New Egg for sell as 5TB drives. They would recoup their cost, New Egg gets sales they possibly would not have and the customer gets a "larger capacity drive" than they thought they had purchased. Everybody wins. This would be similar to the way AMD sold their 4 core CPUs with a a bad core as three core CPUs.
  16. Another data point, playing a movie with a Fire TV. The Fire TV is setup to Direct Stream the video while transcoding the audio to AAC. The 4.3Gig directory is the movie in question and is ~ halfway through. It appears PMC is transcoding the audio, combining it with the video and chopping it into blocks of about ~15MB for streaming to the player. Since PMC does not delete the transcoded files until the show is stopped, I am on track to have ~8GB of files for this one stream which is correct as the source file is ~8GB. When I go to R6, I could probably get away with one stream, but not two going. This tells me that if you are not transcoding, i.e. direct streaming the video, the space needed in your /tmp directory, ie free ram is approximately the same as your source file size. I will have to keep using my cache drive as I prefer the higher quality. root@Tower:/mnt/cache/apps/tmp/plex# du -ch 63M ./plex-transcode-316y29v9633anhfr-a465c997-0568-4b23-8d75-db045b2ba3cc 4.3G ./plex-transcode-ee2df7a09472f15f-com-plexapp-android-8c544d57-f210-4b06-8910-88fd64654c94 4.4G . 4.4G total root@Tower:/mnt/cache/apps/tmp/plex#
  17. Please keep the following settable options. -w size = write block size in bytes. If not specified, default is 2048k. -r size = read block size in bytes, default is one cylinder at a time ( heads * sectors * 512)) -b count = number of blocks to read at a time. If not specified, default is 200 blocks at a time. I have found on my system that if I don't run it with these settings, "preclear_disk.sh -c 1 -w 32768 -r 32768 -b 1000 /dev/sdx", when it starts writing zeros it consumes all of the CPU cycles and lags my system terribly.
  18. I think it just depends on the system and how busy it is, plus the options you invoke preclear with. My first took 69.5 hours while my second took ~72. ========================================================================1.15 == invoked as: ./preclear_disk.sh -c 1 -w 32768 -r 32768 -b 1000 /dev/sdh == WDCWD60EFRX-68MYMN1 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx == Disk /dev/sdh has been successfully precleared == with a starting sector of 1 == Ran 1 cycle == == Using :Read block size = 32768 Bytes == Last Cycle's Pre Read Time : 21:25:09 (77 MB/s) == Last Cycle's Zeroing time : 12:19:57 (135 MB/s) == Last Cycle's Post Read Time : 35:46:00 (46 MB/s) == Last Cycle's Total Time : 69:32:05 == == Total Elapsed Time 69:32:05
  19. If you have the depth for the case, you could always turn it on its side like this. I wish I had thought of this when I built mine, I would prefer to have support for at least 20 drives. If it has to sit on the floor, you could always build a small stand for the mounting ears to hang over. I have been thinking of this and purchasing a new cage vs an antec 1200 and 1 extra cage. http://imgur.com/nV6zp.jpg
  20. I would delete the packages off the usb drive and reboot your server. Then use phazes plugin.
  21. I believe the Antec Twelve Hundred V3 3.0 only supports 20 drives if you use 5in3 cages. If you are going to do that you might as well purchase norco 4220 or even a 4224. I will say cages are the way to go. The Norco SS-500 are still on sale for 71 (price plus s&h). They do not give you a break on the shipping. The case at $150 plus 4 cages at $282 brings your price up to $424. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816133030 The 4220 is $339 while the 4224 $448. Plus there is a $40 gift card on the 4224 and a $10 on the 4220. If you have the room, these offer you the best bang for the $. Wit these you would probably want a 120mm fan wall plus extra screws @ ~$25. 4220 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811219033 4224 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811219038 The iStar cages are also nice looking. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=iStarUSA+BPN-DE350SS&N=-1&isNodeId=1
  22. It would. The ""user" path includes the cache while "user0" does not.
  23. Pick up a cheap video card to put in it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%204093&IsNodeId=1
  24. Set SB and Sab to notify Plex Server on completion. This will kick of a scan of the specific area TV or Movies. I don't remember if you have to set anything else in Plex or not. It will see them even on the cache. It does not now about any of the underlying drives. Unraid hides the fact that the individual drives exist and presents a consolidated view as if a single disk is used.
