  1. I just wanted to report back that after several weeks now running the plugin by dlandon I have not had a single issue. For what I use the Plugin for (mounting an SSD drive outside the array and running Docker and VM's from it) it is working perfectly! Just taking the time to give Feedback! Thanks again for picking up the Slack on this Plugin! I appreciate it! As a side note it "looks" like gfjardim is not making a return any time soon! He is continuing to log on (according to the forum "Last Seen" logs) so like others, I am sure, I hope he is well and just getting on with important real life stuff!
  2. I wanted to add something to this thread. As I have noted in posts in the past, while I am convinced that the stock fans do a "good" job at providing sufficient cooling for the DS380 case (with a little help of the skirt of course) I have just had the opportunity to make them better. My Backup Server went down (due to a seperate PSU failure: https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=45610.0) and I had to get it back to my supplier so they could manage the warranty replacement for me. While in the store waiting for the guys in the back to bring the thing forward I was talking to the talkative nice American guy behind the counter. I started discussing unRAID, My Setup etc ... We talked about the DS380 and my "Hope" that the PSU was the issue and that the backpane of the DS380 case wasn't the true issue behind my problems (for those interested there has been much discussion on the Internet and these forums about potential backpane issues). Anyway ... I explained my Skirt Mod and the "possibility" that "some" may find the Temperatures on the "High" side of things. After some explanation of the issue (which I won't go into again) he asked me bluntly "Why not use better fans and just have the cooler setup, especially when it gets into the 40's around here at least you won't care if there is a parity check going on ..." I explained that I HAD bought these fans BUT I was sufficiently happy with the Stock fans and my Skirt Mod that I didn't feel the need to use the $90 fans (3 x Noctua NF-F12's PWM - as previously noted - @ AUD $30 each) I bought in the Backup Server and the money was best placed where I now have them in another "Gaming" Rig. Conversation over, or so I thought .... It appears that he was that "Annoyed" by my decision NOT to use the fans he made me wait for the PSU to come up for the stores so he could go down and bring up 3 x Noctua NF-F12's. He waved them in front of me (with a weird sort of "I'm going to Kill you later ..." sort of smile on his face) but I was un moved. Plenty of Testing. Quite a few 40 Degree Days. Drives are Fine. Conversation over, or so I thought .... He offers me them for AUD $10 each for being a good loyal customer over the years. Conversation over this time? Absolutely!!!! SOLD!!! LOL!! Well, to the root of it all and long story short (I know, too late) I installed them when I put the new PSU in AND I am SOOOOO surprised at the temperature drop! I have the 3 of them (2 x intake and 1 x outtake) running at close to full speed (1400rpm). As the Backup Server has been out of action for a while I initiated the Parity Check it missed on the 1st of the month! So I leave it for 4 hours and look back at the temperatures .... Woah! Given the ambient temperature in Melbourne today is 27'C ... - The Main Server (which is an Fractal Design Define R5 and has FANTASTIC cooling) with all disks (7 x Mechanical and 3 x SSD) spun up and working away is running at ~(min)33-(max)35'C. - The Backup Server (which of course is in the DS380 and now has these 3 new Bargain fans in them) with all disks (4 x Mechanical and 1 x SSD) spun up and doing a parity check is running at ~(min)30-(max)33'C. What a difference!! What a drop from those I quoted in my tests earlier last year (when they were touching 40's under load - which by the way is still OK as its well within manufacturer spec). Note that I still have the skirt installed and have grills on and the door closed (as ALWAYS). If I had my time again I would go back and put the fans I initially bought and decided to utilise elsewhere in this case and would have had such good cooling. In the grand scheme of things I don't feel that there has been much gained (unless you believe by reducing these temps I have prolonged the drive - which i don't FWIW) as the drives are spec'd to operate under load much hotter than I ever got to on the hottest 40'C day here in Melbourne AND under load BUT I somehow like the fact that the Backup Server is now running cooler and is going toe to toe with my Main Server for cooling performance! I now also wonder if (as I add more and more drives / GPU's to the main server) If Ill benefit from replacing the Fractal Design Fans with Noctua ones and drop the temperatures on the Main Server down too! Ill keep that in mind!! All in all these Noctua fans are awesome! Hope someone finds this interesting and informative! P.S. It is a tad of a noisier little bleeder (Louder than the R5 with 4 fans of a larger size in it - BUT of course the R5 has better sound proofing and is a MUCH better and Larger Case) with these fans in it BUT where it sits in the study Silence is NOT a requirement and the noise to cooling trade off is fine by me!
  3. You can edit default mappings of each container before, or after install. Not sure what stopped you when you installed BUT it is not my experience that this is a design feature of unRAID. Not being able to edit default mappings on install would really suck and I am sure many users would be up in arms if that was the case. Either way I don't see this as an issue with unRAID nor this Docker. It is certainly something I have not seen reported before nor experienced for myself. Perhaps Browser issue? *Shrugs*.
  4. Just checked. Yes, on the console I have this too. Nothing in the syslog and nothing reported to the command line when I telnet in either though ....
  5. When I first installed it likely about a year ago the library scanning would just keep hanging up and I eventually had to manually identify a lot of my movies. They were all identified by the old MediaBrowser but the new server still had issues. Not sure if there is a specific issue you guys are having as a result of a different setting (whatever that might be) to mine but for me it's lightening. Perhaps my media collection is less than yours but we are talking some 3k files. Not sure if Emby scrapes images / data from an external source as the library build but I imagine it could. Is your b/w maxed as you're doing this (eg are you downloading etc?).
  6. All perfect here.
  7. If you have an SSD drives as your Cache drive or multiple drives within a btrfs Cache Pool then I think it is a good idea. Generally speaking an SSD drive has a spec'd limited number of writes (which of course will vary depending on the model and manufacturer) before they are expected to "wear out". One might argue that in a typical use case that the drive will be obsolete and replaced long before you EVER hit that number (as they are now so high) but hey ho, IMHO there is nothing wrong with a bit of preventative maintenance (especially when there is an unRAID plugin you can schedule to do it for you ) From what I have read there is some argument that it is not required due to the built in garbage collection that is built into the FW of modern drives (coupled with the idea of the unlikeliness of a typical user ever getting close to the maximum write threshold) BUT IMHO there seems to be a stronger argument that these garbage collection functions don't cut it and using TRIM on SSD's is advised and is really considered your first line of defence in prolonging the life of your SSD. I think TRIM essentially tells the SSD drive which blocks are no longer "being used" and can be internally erased. Which it then does. Little is it considered a problem anymore I believe that I don't even think I know of any nix OS that TRIM's SSD's by default despite how easy it would be to do so. I am not sure how much you know but SSD drives write their data in blocks. AFAIK this means that lets say a block of x bits is written. To change one of the bits within that block, the whole block has to be written again not just the bit that has changed. So technically (and I am sure we could do the math) AFAIK that for each write (which as I point out from the OS POV might just be 1 bit residing within a block) the actual wear on the drive is equivalent to the size of the block where that 1 bit is contained not just the 1 bit that has itself changed. ** **Sorry to those who will no doubt pick up on what is a poor use of terminology here. Just trying to explain the principal as I understand it. I found a snippet on wikipedia which explains what TRIM is better than I did above: TRIM is a "command [that] allows an operating system to inform a solid-state drive (SSD) which blocks of data are no longer considered in use and can be wiped internally." In general, TRIM is the first line of defense in keeping your SSD alive. There is, of course, no sense in trying to enable TRIM if your hard disk does not support it. Note that at the time of writing the plugin ONLY works on cache devices and not on any SSD that you might have in your Array (this is not officially supported ATM AFAIK) or if you have them mounted outside the Array (via the Unassigned Devces Plugin). If you have btrfs pool of SSD's the plugin will execute the command for the number of drives in the pool. So, to answer your question, if you're using an SSD as your Cache drive or multiple drives within a btrfs Cache Pool and your SSD's support TRIM (and I have not seen a modern SSD that doesn't) YES - use the plugin which will schedule the running of fstrim at intervals that suit you. I run it once a day (as I know do others) at the end of each day at 11PM when the Server is unlikely to be used and prior to the Mover running and shooting everything over to the protected array P.S. Now I have finished I feel I seem to have got carried away and perhaps you already know all of this but if anything it helped me underpin my own knowledge to write this (assuming of course I am right). If not I guess there is a pending edit removing this for some text which says something along the lines "Post removed. Note to self Daniel, don't post while drinking red wine! "
  8. You change it via the OpenVPN-AS webui Sorry, thats wrong. You can't change the admin password from the GUI AFAIK. As CHBMB noted the answer is in the link to the dockerhub on the first post of this thread. I have grabbed the specific area of that site and highlighted the important part in bold: So you need to telnet to you server and type that command then follow the prompts to change the password. Then close the telnet session. Done.
  9. I noticed this too. I for instance keep .nfo files for media which can be updated regularly by Media Managing Software (e.g. Emby). In my case all my checksum errors relate to .nfo files only. I agree with this statement. In my case I don't really see the point in constantly checking these constantly changing files for bitrot. What I do find myself looking for is an option to exclude .nfo files (potentially extending to any other file extension for that matter) from the scan. I find myself imagining some sort of RefEx being built (or I guess input by the user) by the selection of a number of options on the GUI and then file matching that condition(s) are not scanned / monitored? Just thinking out loud.
  10. I appear to be experiencing an issue with the SABnzbd docker. I noticed today when I glanced at the logs that it appears to error when it starts up. The error appears to be to do with updating, presumably to the latest version. Current running version is version 0.8beta5. The particular part of the log I refer to is in the code snippet below: ----------------------------------- _ _ _ | |___| (_) ___ | / __| | |/ _ \ | \__ \ | | (_) | |_|___/ |_|\___/ |_| Brought to you by linuxserver.io ----------------------------------- GID/UID ----------------------------------- User uid: 99 User gid: 100 ----------------------------------- We are now refreshing packages from apt repositorys, this *may* take a while Update: ERROR Jan 29 16:30:12 961acca98b9f syslog-ng[46]: syslog-ng starting up; version='3.5.3' All other dockers appear to be updating fine, including others released by linuxserver.io so I don't think it is a connection issue. I only call out the issue as there appears to be a new BETA out (BETA 6) and as a general rule I like to move to the most recent BETA released ASAP when running BETA software. I have not however experienced an issue with BETA 5 but thats by the by. Home / sabnzbdplus-beta Name Modified Size Downloads / Week Status Parent folder 0.8.0Beta6 2016-01-24 1,5771,577 weekly downloads 0.8.0Beta5 2016-01-14 301301 weekly downloads 0.8.0Beta4 2015-12-25 1111 weekly downloads The last time it seemed to execute without throwing this error was January 22nd. BETA 6 was released on January 24th. Does anyone on the linuxserver.io team know if this is an issue? To the community, can anyone else confirm that they have this issue too?
  11. My Backup Server is open at the moment as the PSU failed and am waiting for my supplier to test and replace. I'll take it out and measure it for you some time today. Current time of posting: 1:36pm Australian Eastern. Sod it, decided not to procrastinate and just do it now for you. Not that I wanted to put off cleaning and taking the trash out or anything ... Here goes: Length:275mm Width: 57mm Material: Any cardboard but I advise a thicker piece so it has some rigidity. This size piece should fit nicely in the gap between the motherboard and the fans. The drive cage presses slightly on top of the piece keeping it in place. That being said I also added a small piece of tape on each side just to make sure it stays where I want it to. It's a bit of a pain to get to if you're not opening up the case for any other reason! As for fitting (you can read my more detailed posts, but to summarise) remember the idea here is to place the skirt between the fans and the motherboard with the idea being to restrict air going into the main part of the case (in the first instance) and just being evacuated BUT "forcing" it over the drives FIRST and increasing the exposure of the drives to the air by creating a little compartment of sorts where the fans are installed so the air can ONLY go over the drives before it goes into the main part of the case where the motherboard is and then out of the back of the case via the rear exhaust fan. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of any more help.

  13. A very succinct summary of my point in my above post!
  14. Can I ask why you would you "need" to use easy-rsa to support the install / use of openvpn-as? It is my understanding of openvpn-as that it generates unique certificates/key files etc for you as part of setting up logging on. You can of course download a user locked version or not. What I did was follow the guides to add a user, change the users password. Enable auto login for that user. I make sure I check "Require user permissions record for VPN access" too. Open the port I selected on my router and forward it to the server port that openvpn-as is using. Then download the *.ovpn file which contained all the key authentication details / certs etc to allow the client (iPhone, Router, iMac, MacBookAir) to auto login. The connection is secure, encrypted and safe. As I understand it openvpn-as is automated and does allot of the configuration and unique key/certificate generation for you. It also provides a nice pretty UI to configure everything. In addition - I have noticed that the connection on my unRAID server via this Docker vs the connection on my ASUS RT-AC3200 router is that this Docker on my unRAID server is faster AND can support more users without noticing a speed drop. One benefit of using openvpn on your router (not openvpn-as) I believe is that you don't have to purchase licences for more than 2 users. You can of course have multiple devices using the same users connection! This is all AFAIK unless someone corrects me .... EDIT: See this from the openvpn-as Server GUI:
  15. An unRAID / LT "Lets go have beers and get drunk EVENT..." Doesn't sound like such a bad idea. Shame for Geography, BUT I like it!
  16. All working now after - the release of - and - my subsequent upgrade to - 6.1.7. Thank you, nice option.
  17. I absolutely agree but I didn't want to start a "LT are only 3 guys, It Will Happen when it Happens, How about you do it yourself, Just Submit a Feature Request and Wait.." type back and forth of posts. It's not a huge drama if the Plugin doesn't get 6.2 Support as the tried and tested method we have all been following for years is still there. *Noting the first sentence of this post he Takes a Deep Breath* ... I do wonder, given the work that has been put into this Plugin though how much work it would take LT to incorporate the functionality .....
  18. What a difference a few days of working away does. Things move fast. dlandon, you're absolutely a star. From not having time to help with this TO taking control, forking the development, supporting the community and releasing this in the timely way you have is admirable. Worthy of recognition. Thank you!!!! 8) 8)
  19. I agree. I have seen nothing in the posts above to suggest to me that this Plugin is in any way a contributory factor to each issue(s). I maintain - Excellent Plugin that I see no issues with at all. It will be interesting actually. It's another excellent gfjardim Plugin BUT unfortunately gfjardim is MIA at the current time. I wonder how this plugin is going to fare in 6.1.7 and as we end up upgrading eventually through to 6.2 when we have no developer support for it? To his absolute credit dlandon has forked gfjardim's work for Unassigned Devices and that Plugin is now safe BUT we can't expect him to do it for ALL of gfjardim's Plugin's however good the Plugin might be....
  20. Oh "Come On!!!" - *He says emulating Leyton Hewitt he is watching in the Australian Open match!!* dude! All you're giving me for that idea is .... "So from the looks of it, it's just a bit of cardboard...". Well yes I guess it is, but it took a bit of thought! Works well though. Simplest ideas are often the best! Lucky for me! LOL! As for the dimensions of the cooler I don't know without opening up. Happy to do so at the end of the week if you find you can't source the information. Let me know it thats the case!
  21. I use the stock cooler for an E3-1241v3 in my Main Server in a Define R5 and it has operated very cool for close to a year 24x7 operation even in high ambient temperatures and high load. The airflow in my R5 is much better than the DS380 though. I use a quad atom (Avoton) in the DS380 as my Backup Server and it runs cool. Obviously I don't have your scenario but assuming the stock cooler fits in the case (and it might be tight so double check) my gut tells me that it should be just fine. Note, that to improve airflow in the DS380 case see link to my build thread in my sig for a link to the skirt mod I did to improve overall airflow in the case (initially over the drives, over the cpu and then out the back).
  22. How'd it go? Just headed over to this thread to ask the same question! Just had to say this is an excellent script. I am using to move files from a drive that has over filled to a new drive that I have just installed. If in future it can become integrated into the unRAID GUI in some way then it will be just awesome! Great work! Thank you!

  24. Thank you.
