  1. Then redesign the UI yourself. As Joe said you are free to contribute. For everyone else it's good enough. That's the whole reason SimpleFeatures was created. The existing UI wasn't good enough for them so they created a new one themselves. Unraid is basically meant to be a barebones NAS with data protection. Literally everything else is user contributed. A beautiful woman is not built by a user community.
  2. Install the ssh plugin and either do it from the command line with an ssh app or install one of the numerous sftp apps available if you want a GUI to do it with.
  3. I just noticed a guy on here has that NIC listed in his signature as the one he's using so it should work fine.
  4. That store carries the X9SCL-F which is very similar to the X9SCM-F. The main differences are that it uses the C202 chipset vs the C204 so you don't get on board SATA III support(which doesn't even matter for spinning hard disks) and it has one less PCIe 8x slot. It has most the other features though such as the dual NICs and a dedicated IPMI port. With the X9SCM not being available the X9SCL-F is a very close substitute.
  5. I know there is a cost difference but why not a Core i3 over the AMD? That thing runs hot as hell and will suck down power. Especially with the ivy bridge i3s on the market now which will be faster and run way cooler and use a lot less power than the AMD.
  6. Been running the MK II for several months. The original 750 works as well that's why I bought the MK II. It wasn't until I saw posts about other makers not working with newer models that it even occurred to me that an upgraded model would have problems. I believe it was actually a post of yours I saw a while back saying it worked that made me decide to get it. Thanks!
  7. Another popular thing to do is pick up one of these so you can keep your USB thumb drive inside your case so it isn't sticking off the back. I used this one before I bought a motherboard with a USB port right on the board. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812200294 EDIT: actually this option would be a little cheaper. Just unscrew one of the cables from the bracket. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10307&cs_id=1030701&p_id=2210&seq=1&format=2
  8. If you have a video card in another PC you could take out for a half hour that would probably be better IMO. After the initial setup the server can be run headless and managed from the web GUI and telnet. No need to spend the money if you don't have to.
  9. The one issues is it will be hard to tell whether said 720p TV show is a TV rip or a bluray rip. I like to redownload shows from the bluray rip when available for my archive because they're usually higher bitrate (better quality) and remove things like the channel logo in the corner or any other on screen graphics. I guess the one way you could possibly tell is by the audio format. If its AC3 it's typically going to be a TV rip but if its DTS it's always going to be bluray. The issue there is some shows that aren't available in bluray but are available in 720p Web-DL (aka from the iTunes Store withe the DRM removed) will also have AC3. I guess for cases like this you will still have to process some stuff manually.
  10. Just an FYI, Unraid does currently support USB 3.0. The kernel used in the most recent RC has USB 3.0 drivers. However it's not really that useful unless you want to add a SNAP drive outside of the array.
  11. I'd go with the Antec Neo Eco 400W PSU. I used one for years in my server before I needed to upgrade to a 750W unit. It's got an extra 2 amps on the 12 volt rail which is enough to power an additional green/red drive. Plus, it's on sale on Newegg right now until Monday for $30 bucks with free shipping so it'll save you a couple of bucks. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371029 EDIT: Just remembered the Antec doesn't come with a power cable so if you don't have one lying around you'll need to order one. I always forget to mention this because I have a million of them from work. I'm sure they are dirt cheap on monoprice though.
  12. The PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 750W is on sale on Amazon for $89.99 plus $20 mail in rebate for a total of $69.99 after rebate. This PSU normally goes for around $110 so this is a pretty good deal. Its 62.4 amps on the 12 volt rail is enough to power about 30 green drives if Unraid ever supports that many! It also works with the notoriously PSU picky Supermicro X9SCM. I picked one when I ordered the X9SCM when it was on sale a week ago and it's been running great so far. http://www.amazon.com/PC-Power-Cooling-Performance-compatible/dp/B003U29C3Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347075538&sr=8-1&keywords=pc+power+and+cooling+silencer+mk+ii+750w
  13. I can confirm that the PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 750 actually does work with the X9SCM. I installed mine today and have been up and running for a couple of hours with no issues. It is actually on sale on Amazon right now for $69 after rebate. $40 off the normal price. The unit is really nice and has enough amps on the 12 volt rail to support 20+ drives. http://www.amazon.com/PC-Power-Cooling-Performance-compatible/dp/B003U29C3Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347069130&sr=8-1&keywords=pc+power+and+cooling+silencer+mk+ii+750w
  14. For some reason when I enter "/sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/device/echo 1 > pwm2_enable" in a telnet session I get the error "/sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/device/echo: No such file or directory" but if I manually navigate to "/sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1/device/" and type "echo 1 > pwm2_enable" it works. What am I doing wrong here? I want to add this to my go script because without it the X9SCM-F is running my CPU fan at only 950 RPM whereas the base speed is supposed to be 2000 RPM. Enabling pwm2 brings it up to the proper speed though.
  15. +1 I have this issue as well. I have this problem too. It's at the point now that I don't keep the plugin enabled unless I want to use it.
  16. Could have saved yourself a few bucks and got them from Monoprice. A lot of guys on here use them. http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10407&cs_id=1040702
  17. I've been using a board with an Atheros AR8151 chipset for the last 6 months and haven't had a single issue with it.
  18. Also, keep in mind that the Supermicro board needs ECC RAM, which is different and costs a bit more than normal DDR3 RAM. Also, not all power supplies will work it it. As for which to choose, I'd go with the Supermicro/i3 combo if you can afford it. There is a deal on it on Newegg right now for $169 with a free USB 3 card. I picked one up to go with my existing i3 2120 and ordered some ECC RAM and a new power supply. Will run it like this for a while but the plan is to get a Xeon E3 and go for ESXi virtualization.
  19. Thanks! I wanted this a few weeks ago when the version with the plastic housing was on sale. Glad I held out and waited.
  20. Thanks! Been waiting for a deal on this board. Not sure what I'll do with that USB 3 card though. Don't have any use for it.
  21. 5.0 is more than stable enough for prime time now. No need to wait to upgrade.
  22. I remember when the android client were released they did say playback was problematic with some devices. I thought they had a known good device list on their website. Not sure. Just another reason I love iOS devices, not having to worry about crap like that.

    What is your uptime?

Welcome to the world of Unix based operating systems. My MacBook Pro that I use as a desktop PC had an uptime of 2 and a half years before I recently upgraded to mountain lion so I had to reboot. As for my unraid server, I'm at almost 25 days right now. Also a big tinkerer but there haven't been any new 5.0 RCs or major plugin updates that require a reboot. This is probably the longest uptime it's had in over a year.
