  1. I'd use the extra parameters.... or risk running out of memory. (does not matter how much RAM you have, you only have s much "low" memory. Type "free -l" to see. Joe L. And the results are: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 16621676 10599556 6022120 0 220488 10108652 Low: 766500 459460 307040 High: 15855176 10140096 5715080 -/+ buffers/cache: 270416 16351260 Swap: 0 0 0 Not sure what it all means. Is it good, bad, average? Am I at risk of running out of memory if I didn't? To run it correctly for two passes i would type "preclear_disk.sh -r 65536 -w 65536 -b 2000 -c -2 /dev/sdX" Yes? Does using these extra parameters have any effect on the overall time it will take? [im guessing around 80 hours] Just want to learn more. Thanks for the reply Joe.
  2. Thanks for the responses. I wait hoping Joe has an opportunity to provide input.
  3. The configuration tutorial reads If you are pre-clearing multiple drives it is recommended you also use the optional "-r" "-w" and "-b" options when preclearing multiple drives with these suggested values -r 65536 -w 65536 -b 2000. Is this still a valid/necessary suggestion with version 5? I am running v5.02 and have 8GB Ram installed and plan to clear three 4TB drives concurrently. I've done three 2TB drives in the past with no issue but thought I'd ask before I did my first 4TB drives.
  4. That's why they are optional. Which is why I beleive that basic email alerting (Disk Full, Overheat, Parity Check Required, Disk with errors, etc...) should be included in the base product. yes yes
  5. yes that would be the one garycase is mentioning. i have the 2TB size and they are very nice drives. I'm monitoring the price waiting to pounce on 3 or 4 of these myself.

  7. This is what I did and it worked just fine.
  8. I thought the same for PSU construction that a standard spec is used to build and should just "work" and Seasonic is supposed to be the undisputed "best". I would be inclined to think it was the MB if I had not tried a corsair from buddies willing to help trouble shoot and they worked as expected. I still have one in my rig as my friend is waiting for a replacement video card. Seasonic has contacted me and stated they are sending me an X760 today as a replacement. Hopefully that will be the end of it.
  9. Looking for some input. My issue is with my power supply and I hope I have posted in the appropriate thread. Is there any know incompatibility issues with Seasonic X series PSU's and Supermicro motherboards? Back ground to my inquiry: I am an unRaid newbee and have had my server together for about four weeks now. I researched for several weeks prior to parts purchase, assembly and use of unraid and decided it best for my needs and thought i used all proven known good hardware. I followed the 20 drive beast tower build as a guide. I changed the psu thinking it was an upgrade in reliability and performance. I went with a SeaSonic X750 Gold 750W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply from the egg. My board is the SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O with 8GB of Kingston Server Memory Model KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G. I currently have 3 Norco cages with a total of 14 drives mixed green and 7200 rpm [1 x parity, 1 x cache, 12 x data] for a total of 15TB storage. 1st boot - got the 1 second blast of power enough to move the fans then nothing. Went thru all connections tried again an she started right up. Over the course of the three weeks I built up my sever copying data, preclearing and adding discs to array repeat until I got to where I am now. After no longer adding drives and wires realized the power up problem was not going away. If i powered down and later tried to restart i would get the one second burst and nothing. I would have to flip to PSU power button off [MB lights no longer on] four or five times to get it to boot so I contacted customer support at seasonic and they immediately processed an RMA and shipped me a replacement. Well I received it yesterday and promptly hooked it up. Now I have quite the opposite problem, it wont shut down. Using the powerdown button on the web gui it goes through the motions and proper shutdown sequence and the sever powers off - for 3 seconds - and then automatically reboots. Very frustrating. Repeated three attempts with no change, removed UPS as source power, no change and plugged directly into wall socket same thing. Contacted support again this morning and received this response: Dear customer, Thanks for your prompt response. It seems like there is an compatibility issue between the motherboard and psu. However, we'll send you another psu for testing. I replied asking if it was possible to send along new wiring harnesses to eliminate the potential of one being bad and received this response: Dear customer, Thanks for your prompt response. I also re-checked your RMA request form, I saw super micro MBD-X8SIL-F-O. Their motherboards are known for most of psu not compatible recently, because they carry their own brand psu. I promptly replied that I have tried 2 known working psu's and have no trouble along with some other comments. Currently awaiting a response. I thought Seasonic was the best...Did I choose an incompatible PSU? If you've read this far thank you. I needed to vent. Any comments, criticisms, or sympathy's accepted.
  10. I have seen this on my system running 5 b14 while trying to use simplfeatures also. Although I never got back to a login prompt nor could i see my flash drive. Manual refresh of browser did nothing. Eventually had to press hard reset button on case. Uninstalled simplefeatures and has not happened since.
  11. Well, edit the .conf file, replace the references to 2.62 with that of 2.64, put the correct URL in place for the new version, and change the md5 checksum in the .conf file to match the new downloaded file. Then you can send me back, or post the updated .conf file. (I'm afraid my workload right now does not give me the time to do it) There is also this: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=19416.msg174413#msg174413 personally have not tried either solution yet.
  12. I see. Thanks Joe for confirming its not me or my setup. Since I do not know how to update it myself, i guess I will do without until someone more knowledgeable [knows what they are doing] can update it.
  13. trying to set up using pkg mgr and get the following: mail and ssmtp - Configure unRAID to be able to send e-mail notifications via the "mail" command. Installed, but version is different. Current version='/usr/sbin/ssmtp:' expected '2.62' (MD5 of existing downloaded file NOT matched - download may be corrupted or download URL no longer valid.) Description: This package installs both mailx and ssmtp, a subset of "sendmail" needed to send alerts from the unRAID server To test the basic configuration of ssmtp, type the following command: echo -e "Subject: a test\n\nThis is the email body." | ssmtp -d root Package URL: http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/s/ssmtp/ssmtp_2.62.orig.tar.gz Package File: ssmtp_2.62.orig.tar.gz md5 Checksum: 257ac04e62ab7e3616e220333a1140cb (NOT matched - download may be corrupted or download URL no longer valid.) "ssmtp" is part of this package. unfortunately, ssmtp is only available as source code. Therefore, you will need to install the compiler and development tools before you can install this package. ssmtp depends on open-ssl to be able to securely communicate to mail servers on TLS connections. when I press the download button again I get this: Installed, but version is different. Current version='/usr/sbin/ssmtp:' expected '2.62' (MD5 of existing downloaded file NOT matched - download may be corrupted or download URL no longer valid.) Description: This package installs both mailx and ssmtp, a subset of "sendmail" needed to send alerts from the unRAID server To test the basic configuration of ssmtp, type the following command: echo -e "Subject: a test\n\nThis is the email body." | ssmtp -d root Package URL: http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/s/ssmtp/ssmtp_2.62.orig.tar.gz Package File: ssmtp_2.62.orig.tar.gz md5 Checksum: 257ac04e62ab7e3616e220333a1140cb (NOT matched - download may be corrupted or download URL no longer valid.) I see it says installed but version different and gives me no option to reinstall on reboot. I followed the guide in the wiki and tried a test message via a telnet session using putty and the results in the putty screen is "-bash: ssmtp: command not found" When i click on the link http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/s/ssmtp/ssmtp_2.62.orig.tar.gz i get a 404 not found error. I thought i followed all the steps and even tried a reboot, but i cant figure it out. Any guidance appreciated. i am still new at this and trying hard to learn as fast as I can.
  14. I too am looking to understand split level. If the split level was changed on share TV SHOWS from 2 to 3 wouldnt this make the individual remaining episodes of season 2 move to the next disk after the first was filled to the high water mark? If I understand this correctly this would be the case and I realize you would have for example the first 4 episodes of the season on 'disk1' and the remaining episodes on 'disk2' which for me would be ok.
  15. Quote from: dougnliz on August 17, 2011, 07:09:22 PM Hi folks, I've finally decided to upgrade some of the hardware in my UnRAID server. I have the original hardware recommended by Tom when UnRAID was just starting. Now I'm upgrading to the hardware in Raj's 20 Drive Beast recommendation. The hardware should be here tomorrow or Friday and I can't wait. Are there any BIOS settings I should watch out for on the SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O? Thanks! Doug Make sure the drives are set up to use AHCI and not IDE mode, disable init13 on all the SASLP cards, and disable Interrupt 19 on the motherboard. And then you should just need to set the flash drive as the boot device. Found the above recommendation in an older thread. I followed the BEAST path also with my build. New to this and went for the gusto! Got the AHCI mode and the interrupt 19 disable in the motherboard bios no problem, USB set to boot and does. How do i disable the init13 on the AOC-SASLP-MV8 cards? Is it still recommended?
  16. I too have changed mine following the recommended slow and easy approach. Quick and painless as long as you take your time and gently and evenly push the stock fan out. Temp difference is 3 to 4 degrees higher with drives in use than with the stock fans, but the difference in noise level is amazing. Compare it this way: Stock Fans = Jet Airliner Coolink Fans = Glider
  17. SEAGATE ST320005N4A or WDBAAY0020HNC-NRSN From what I can find after searching threads these drives seem to be acceptable for use. The WD have EARX drives in the box. I dont know what is in the Seagate box. Both are available locally for me. Either one recommended [or not] over the other?
  18. Finished my 1st build using a SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O board with two SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 [currently only one card in use] running pro 5 beta 14. Jumped in with both feet but maybe didn't study as well as I thought I did. Seems stable but its only been 4 days as I have been copying data and adding drives one by one. Currently have 1 parity, 5 data, 1 cache. Plan to start preclear on another 2TB drive tonight. Any issues I should be watching for?
  19. My coolink fans are on the way, and this interests me also. Is this a viable option?? I would imagine so, but you more than likely void the warranty and make it impossible to return. Breaking them off and using some double sided tape, instead of screws, would probably achieve the same result. yes I see. I finished reading the V2 updated review after i posted and see that breaking the pins did happen. I would guess that the drilling/screw option was considered and dismissed.
  20. My coolink fans are on the way, and this interests me also. Is this a viable option??
  21. OK. I see. Looks like I got a little more thinking to do..... I want to migrate all my stuff onto the server then I will arrange accordingly. So now its time to add my Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8-Port SAS/SATA Add-on Card. No special set up requirements I hope. Thank You! Influencer
