I just lost operating system

Recommended Posts

I was not getting Plex to work and went to the Unraid server and it showed no discs or Docker apps. I tried to do a normal shut down and it would not work. I tried to print a diagnostic report and that did not work either. The server now shows no operating system and wont boot up.

Anyone have any ideas? did I just lose all of my movie library?

Put the flash drive in your desktop/laptop and see if there are any files there or if it's mostly empty, I hope it's not the case here but there have been an abnormal number of hacked users with wiped flash drives and servers in the last few days, it this keeps happening we need to find out what they have in common.

@vid1953

Here are your disk assignments from you diagnostics:

Mar 18 20:11:52 garysplex kernel: md: import disk0: (sde) WDC_WD40EFRX-68WT0N0_WD-WCC4E2VTAX82 size: 3907018532
Mar 18 20:11:52 garysplex kernel: md: import disk1: (sdb) WDC_WD30EFRX-68EUZN0_WD-WCC4N4VKE895 size: 2930266532
Mar 18 20:11:52 garysplex kernel: md: import disk2: (sdf) WDC_WD30EFRX-68EUZN0_WD-WCC4N0DVV5R6 size: 2930266532
Mar 18 20:11:52 garysplex kernel: md: import disk3: (sdc) WDC_WD30EFRX-68EUZN0_WD-WCC4N6KJKZ67 size: 2930266532
Mar 18 20:11:52 garysplex kernel: md: import_slot: 4 empty

disk0 is parity.

disk4 was missing and disabled. Why was that disk missing?

So do we just download the unraid software back on to the  empty usb stick and reinsert into the server and power up?

Your license key only works with the flash drive it was registered with. If you can't use that flash drive, copy the key anyway and then you can transfer the license to the new flash.

Are all movie files gone?

Your data should be fine as long as you don't make a mistake with your disk assignments. If you accidentally assign a data disk to the parity slot that data will be overwritten with parity.

I already posted your disk assignments above. But you haven't answered this question I have now asked 3 times:

I did, should be three 3TB drives and one 4TB drive and i believe the 4TB may be the parity drive

Since parity can't be smaller than any data drive parity is obviously the largest disk as seen in the disk assignments I already posted.

You say "I did" in response to the question of whether you had a disk4, but 4TB parity (disk0) and 3x3TB data disks (disk1,disk2,disk3) still doesn't answer the question about disk4.

Did you have a disk4 assigned at some point but removed it?

When you assign the disks, refer to the assignments I already posted above. The serial numbers are clearly listed in those posts, and those same serial numbers will appear in the drop down selections for each disk. Just match them up and you should be good.

I did try to use an external drive some time ago.

If you assigned a disk4 in the past, but then removed it, then your server has been waiting for you to replace it all that time, and so you had no parity protection since you already had a missing disk.

What about that SSD I mentioned?

Your diagnostics also showed a 120GB SSD attached but not assigned. How was that disk used?

Mar 18 20:11:52 garysplex emhttpd: KINGSTON_SV300S37A120G_50026B7757073B82 (sdd) 512 234441648

Post new diagnostics after assigning the disks but before starting the array if you want me to check.
